Abstract

1480582 Two part couplings QUEST ELECTRONIC CONNECTEURS 19 Jan 1976 [31 Jan 1975] 01905/76 Heading H2E A "flat cable" connector has two parts 4 and 5 which include means (e.g. projections 46, 47 and wall 11) for preventing incorrect assembly, locking means (resilient arms 43, 44 and abutments 10) for locking the two parts together and a plate 17 for retaining the terminals 20 of the second part 5 when the elements of that part are disassembled. The second part comprises a body 15 containing insulation piercing forked terminals 20 in through passages 19 (only one shown) a plate 17 with holes to accept the terminals and retain them in the body, a cap 16 with holes 30 to receive the terminal ends, conductors 1 being forced by the cap between opposing tines of the terminals which pierce the insulation and contact the conductors thereof, and a stirrup piece 18 which engages resiliently over portions 41, 42 of the body to retain the cap and body together and damp the cable between itself and the cap. The thus formed second part may then be engaged with the first part 4, which is mounted on, e.g. a circuit board, by sliding resilient arms 43, 44 between guides 8, 9 until the arms snap into place.
