Abstract

1,081,180. Two-part couplings. AMP Inc. Dec. 10, 1965 [Dec. 23, 1964], No. 52443/65. Heading H2E. An insulating block 14 has a central passageway to house a terminal post 2 and a cavity for a pair of forked contacts 16 which resiliently grip the post. The post 2 slides into the connector housing 14 through an aperture 30, which engages it frictionally, and it extends into a rectangular passage 32 whose longer walls have projecting ribs (39), Fig. 3 (not shown), which support the post. The contacts, Fig. 8 (not shown), are inserted into the block so that their upper ends 26 and 28, which are crimped to the bared ends and insulation of conducting wires 10 and 12, fit into a rectangular cavity 34 and an oval cavity 42 respectively. The contacts are guided into position by sloping floors 40 of the cavity 34 and by V-shaped ribs projecting from the shorter walls of the passage and extending to the upper face of the block and co-operating with chambers (50), Fig. 6 (not shown), on one of each pair of outer edges of the contact forks. The block 14 is spaced from a panel carrying the post by feet 29, and selected posts of the panel may be interconnected by clip, wrap or fusion-type connections. In a modification, the block has two passageways, each for receiving a terminal post.
