Description
449 ÛÛÛ) i v. 449 ÛÛÛ) i v.
AND MOST IMPORTANT CHARACTERISTICS OF THE INVENTION The object of the present invention is to eliminate said disadvantages and to provide a surgical suit which is easy and comfortable to use but which nevertheless optimizes the protection against contaminating microorganisms emitted by surgical personnel in surgical operations or the like. The surgical suit must also be simple and inexpensive to manufacture.
This is achieved by the suit being designed to enclose the operator's torso and at least to some extent the extremities, so that the volume of air inside the suit is substantially enclosed, that the material in the suit consists of an electrostatically rechargeable material, which in friction against the body and / or other likewise electrostatic rechargeable clothing attracts and thus binds the body fragments or microorganisms to themselves.
OF THE DRAWINGS The invention will be described in the following in an exemplary embodiment with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 shows a side view of an operating suit according to the invention provided with foot protection, and Figure 2 shows an alternative embodiment of an operating suit where only tight-fitting cuffs are arranged at the bottom at the ankles.
BESKRIVNING Av ufrrönrncsrxznpsr.DESCRIPTION Of ufrrönrncsrxznpsr.
Figure 1 shows an imaginary embodiment of an operating suit 1 according to the invention. It consists of a whole overall equipped with a zipper 2 at the front. The body (not shown) is completely enclosed by the suit as on the head and hands. At the area of the wrists, the suit is provided with elastic cuffs 3 which provide a seal against the wrists. At the neck, the suit is designed with a small width so that as good a seal as possible is obtained against the body. The suit is otherwise relatively casually designed, i.e. it does not slip close to the body but there is some space between the suit and the body. It has been shown that if the volume of air that is 449 043 3 between the body and the inside of the suit is kept as constant as possible, the risk is least that skin fragments with microorganisms will spread through or otherwise out of the suit.
The reason for this is that the pumping effect that normally occurs during movements only redistributes the volume of air inside the suit instead of the air being pumped in and out through the garment, which is normal in ordinary clothing. By allowing a certain volume of air to be inside the suit, a higher level of comfort is also obtained, which is not least important. Excreted moisture from the body must be given the opportunity to be absorbed by ambient air so that suitable cooling is obtained. Otherwise there is a risk of accelerated perspiration in the wearer of the suit, which can have unfavorable consequences with regard to the spread of the microorganisms.
The suit is made of a material which to some extent allows the flow of air but is provided with very small pores or openings. Because the pores in the material are very small, a filter effect is obtained so that skin fragments and similar particles cannot pass out through the material. It is also important that the material can be charged electrostatically either through the natural friction that occurs during normal movements e.g. when the arms rub against the sides of the body or simply by wearing underwear of a purpose intended under the surgical suit. For a long time it has been generally known that electrically charged bodies or materials exert an attractive effect on other bodies in its vicinity. This phenomenon is used in the surgical suit according to the invention to attract the small particles emitted from the skin in the form of skin fragments, microbes or the like. Because the material is to some extent air-permeable, it will thereby function as an electrostatic filter.
As a material in the suit, it has been found that non-woven material of polypropylene possesses the properties suitable for the purpose, partly with regard to the air permeability and partly with regard to the electrostatic charge.
If the underwear is made of the same material or with similar properties, the said advantageous electric charge is ensured. Underwear of other materials, e.g. of cotton, is incapable of generating static electricity to any appreciable degree. A further advantage of said underwear of, for example, polypropylene or the like, is that a more even distribution of the static electric charges over the suit is also obtained. Of course, the electrical charging must not take place uninhibited, whereby unwanted discharges would disturb the carrier and cause a risk of accidents, e.g. in connection with combustible anesthetic gas and the like. Suitable materials for surgical suits with the above-mentioned properties have been found to be 58% Rayon, 14% Polypropylene and 28% binder or 49% Rayon, 21% Polyamide and 30% binder.
Designs of surgical garments other than those shown in Figure 1 are of course conceivable. Thus, the suit can be multi-parted e.g. with an upper part and a lower part and provided with a sealing zipper or the like in between. The suit can also be provided with some form of hood or, as shown in figure 2, manufactured without foot protection. In this case, in a manner similar to the wrists, the area of the ankles is provided with elastic cuffs 4 which tightly enclose the ankles.
The invention is of course not limited to the embodiment described above, but a number of alternative embodiments are conceivable within the scope of protection of the claims.
