Abstract

1508604 Spring door closers with fluid damping EATON Ltd 4 June 1975 [2 July 1974] 29392/74 Heading E2M In a door operating mechanism in which a piston is displaced by door movement in a cylinder of hydraulic fluid against a closer spring and a fluid passage is provided between the faces of the piston, a plurality of ports are provided for fluid flow from cylinder to passage spaced in the direction of piston movement to be covered in turn by the piston; a single valve member allowing closure of a selected port or ports. The mechanism disclosed is that described in Specification 1504142 with the following modifications: the port 16 is replaced by two parts 17a, 17b spaced closer to port 17 and valve member 14 can be rotated to close port 17a, port 17b or both to provide three positions after which further opening movement will be checked unless sufficient force is exerted to force fluid past clearances. Alternatively the member 14 can close port 17b and throttle port 17a or open port 17a and throttle port 17b.
