Description

TRAFFIC-SIGN SYSTEM The invention relates to a traffic-sign system, which includesseveral traffic signs attached to a pipe, and the pipe includestwo detachably attached parts, to one of which parts a trafficsign is attached, and the traffic-sign system includes a rack,in which the parts together with the traffic signs are fittedduring storage and transportation. but the traffic For example, the duration of roadworks varies, signs warning of even short-duration roadworks must be in-stalled at the side of the road in both directions. Togetherwith a roadworks sign, there is generally a sign showing areduced speed limit, so that after the roadworks there is atraffic sign showing the normal speed limit. Thus, for a singleroadworks site, traffic signs are needed at least four at fourplaces. Traffic signs are usually stored at a depot, from whichthe traffic signs are fetched as needed and transported to theroadworks.
A traffic sign is attached to a pipe, which is then placed ina spike base to be sunk in the ground, or in a concrete block. The pipe's length varies from 2700 mm to 4000 mm. The handlingof traffic signs attached to pipes is slow and difficult. Inaddition, the traffic signs are easily damaged when being trans- ported.
DE-publication 2020l2l033l8Ul discloses a traffic-sign system,in which the traffic sign's pipe is in several parts. In addi-tion, there are numerous places in the rack belonging to thetraffic-sign system, in which parts of the traffic signs can be placed for storage.
The invention is intended to create a new type of traffic-sign system, by which a roadworks site, for example, can be markedmore easily and simply than before. The characteristic featuresof the traffic-sign system according to the invention are statedin the accompanying Claims. By means of the traffic-sign systemaccording to the invention, the traffic signs remain in goodorder and are easy to manage and use. The handling of the traffic signs is also quick. At the same time, the traffic signs remain in good condition.
In the following, the invention is described in detail withreference to the accompanying drawings showing some embodimentsof the invention.
Figure 1 shows the traffic-sign system according to the in-vention, Figure 2a shows part of the traffic-sign system according tothe invention, Figure 2b shows another part of the traffic-sign system accord-ing to the invention, Figure 2c shows a known sign attachment,Figure 3 shows a variation of the traffic-sign system,Figure 4a shows a side view of the rack according to the in-vention, without traffic signs,Figure 4b shows a front view of the rack of Figure 4a,Figure 4c shows two racks according to Figure 4b stacked on top of each other.Figure 1 shows an embodiment of the traffic-sign system accord- ing to the invention. The traffic-sign system includes severaltraffic signs 11 attached to a pipe 10. In the embodiment shown, the pipe 10 includes two detachably attached parts 12 and 13,with a traffic sign 11 attached to one part 12. For example, the length of the parts is 1500 mm, so that they require little space and can be easily handled. In addition, the traffic-sign system includes a rack 14, in which the parts 12, 13 together with the traffic signs 11 are fitted during storage and transport. Thus with a single lift the rack together with thetraffic signs is put in a vehicle and transported to the road-in which are com- works. The rack is a light but rigid frame, partments for the traffic signs. Thus a desired traffic sign can be taken out of the rack without sorting through it.
In the invention, the traffic sign 11 is attached to the part 12 by an attachment 15, for which a corresponding bracket 16is arranged in the rack 14. Figure 2c shows a known attachment15. This is a two-sided attachment, the arms 23 of which remainfree and are utilized in the bracket arrangement. Here thebracket 16 is an angle iron 17 added to the rack, and for its part supports the rack. In other words, the bracket 16 is a unified.part arranged to form part of the rack's 14 load-bearing structure. Here the angle iron 17 is fitted to the rack 14horizontally. Thus the traffic signs with their pipes are alsohorizontal. In addition, the flange 24 of the angle iron 17 that remains free is also fitted vertically into the rack 14.The arm then attaches to the flange by gravity and movement ofthe traffic sign in the bracket is also avoided. The attach-ment's 15 arm 23 is placed on the free flange 24 of the angleiron 17 and the traffic sign 11 together with the pipe part 12is pushed into the rack 14. The traffic sign is then allowed to tilt, when the attachment 15 locks onto the bracket 16, i.e. in this case the arm 23 of the angle iron 17 (Figure 2a).Normally there are two attachments in a single traffic sign,so that the traffic sign remains firmly in the bracket. In theembodiment shown, there are actually two traffic signs attachedin a single part of the pipe, so that the totality rests onfour arms. A two-sided attachment is preferably used only aboveand below, so that the traffic-sign rests of two arms 23 (Figure 4a). In addition, the traffic sign is easy to handle by the short pipe part. The traffic sign remains in place also during transport, without separate attachments. Here the brackets are vertically halfway up the rack, when the traffic signs are inthe upper part of the rack. The second parts 13 can then be placed in the rack's lower part, along with, for example, spike bases, hazard lights, and other accessories for each traffic sign.Between the parts 12, 13 of the pipe is a pipe extension 18, in. which. there is a. rotation-prevention. construction. Four pieces of the second part 13 are shown in Figure 2b. The pipeextension is bolted to the second part 13, which is fitted atthe smooth end into a ground wedge or concrete block. The firstpart 12 with traffic sign 11 is then fitted into the pipeextension. Here the second bolt 19 is also in the pipe extension, the slots 20 corresponding to the bolts being at the lower endof the first part 12. Then when the slots are in the bolts, rotation of the traffic sign is prevented, even though the second part is not separately attached.
There are more first parts 12 containing a traffic sign 11 than second parts 13. In the embodiment of Figure 1, there are four second parts but six first parts. A single roadworks can then be taken care and in addition, for example, the speed-limit traffic sign can easily be altered by changing only the firstpart. The short pipe with the traffic sign can also be trans- ported in a passenger car.
An accessories box 21, which is shown schematically in Figure 1, can be supported on two parallel brackets 16. The brackets act as guides, along which the accessories box can be pulled out of the rack. The rack 14 includes in addition feet 25, supports 26 corresponding to which are fitted to the rack's 14 upper surface (Figure 3). Firstly, thanks to the feet the rackis lifted off the ground and the rack remains stable even onuneven ground.
In addition, here the upper surface supports 26 fit into the hollow feet, when racks are placed on top of eachother. The racks then remain stacked on each other during stor-age and transport. There is preferably a lifting eye 27 in eachsupport 26, so that lifting hooks can be easily and securelyattached. The rack 14 preferably includes extension feet 22, when long goods, which fit under the rack, can be transportedon the vehicle's platform. One extension foot 22 is shown sche-matically in Figure 1.
The rack's 14 size is arranged so that there are four, six, oreight traffic signs 11. A suitable number of traffic signs canthen be easily chosen for each work assignment. In addition, the rack 14 includes a protective outer surface, which is ar-ranged to be open on at least one side. On the side in questionis a detachably attached stop 28, which is arranged to preventtraffic signs 11 being taken from the rack 14. The stop can be, for example, locked in place, which will prevent unauthorized use or theft. The stop can be, for example, a beam, which is fitted transversely over the traffic signs. In the embodimentshown, the protection is a metal plate and a liftable tarpaulinon the open side. The traffic signs and other parts are thenwell protected, but nevertheless easily accessible. There arepreferably tarpaulins at both ends of the rack, when the traffic signs can be taken out from two different directions.
It is easy to move the rack described above by lifting, but therack can also be arranged as a trailer. The rack can then bemoved by towing. There are preferably traffic-control means atthe rear of the trailer. Thus the rack can also be utilized tocontrol traffic. The size and/or position of the traffic-con- trol means are preferably arranged.to be adjustable. The trailer then takes up little space when being transported and stored, but nevertheless in the operating position the traffic-control means meet the requirements set for them.
