Abstract

An arrangement for forest harvesting including means (2, 4) for holding a log (6) and feeding it forward, and a cutting device (3) for cutting a log (6) that is being held. The cutting device (3) of the arrangement is adapted to effectuate a cut across the log (6) in such a manner that the mantle surface of the log facing the intended falling direction (F) of a piece of timber released from the log by said cut is intersected in a plane essentially coinciding with the plane of the cut before the cut is completed. The invention also relates to a method for cutting a log by means of an arrangement intended for forest harvesting.
