The invention relates to the technology of optical oxide nanoceramics based on magnesium aluminum spinel (MgAl 2 O 4 ) obtained under conditions of thermobaric hardening and can be used as a functional material for optoelectronics and photonics devices, such as a spectrally tunable phosphor, a working substance for PC-WLEDs (phosphor -converted white light-emitting diodes), tunable detectors in the UV-Visible spectral range.
In the patent of the Russian Federation No. 2525096 dated March 12, 2013, according to the indices MPK С04В 35/443 (2006.01), С04В 35/628 (2006.01), B82Y 20/00 (2011.01), the composition of the charge for the manufacture of optically transparent nanoceramics MgAl 2 O 4 , and also a method for obtaining spinel optical nanoceramics. Obtaining nanoceramics is carried out by uniaxial hot pressing of a charge from a mixture of spinel nanopowder pre-impregnated with boric acid as a sintering additive. The sintering temperature is 1550°C, holding time is 2 hours.
The disadvantage of this method is the lack of specific pressing parameters, such as pressure and holding time. In addition, the claimed method leads to a significant grain growth of the ceramic, and the temperatures indicated for uniaxial hot pressing are extremely high.

Luminescence and excitation spectra of Cr3+: MgAl2O4 nanoceramics // Materials Chemistry and Physics. - 2013. - T. 140. - №. 1. In: Gluchowski P., Strek W. Luminescence and excitation spectra of Cr 3+ : MgAl 2 O 4 nanoceramics // Materials Chemistry and Physics. - 2013. - T. 140. - No. 1. - P. 222-227 Luminescent spinel nanoceramics doped with chromium ions have been studied. The operation to obtain MgAl 2 O 4 nanoceramics consists in: applying pressure to the spinel nanopowder in the range from 2 to 8 GPa; heating up to 450°С; exposure for 1 minute; cooling of ceramics; relieving pressure.
In this case, despite the high pressure parameters, there is no synthesis of optically transparent nanoceramics with chromium (MgAl 2 O 4 :Cr 3 ). In addition, it is also a disadvantage that the luminescence of these ceramics lies in a narrow spectral range from 670 to 720 nm.
In the patent of the Russian Federation No. 2589137 dated April 22, 2014, according to the indices IPC С04В 35/443 (2006.01) С04В 35/626 (2006.01) C01F 7/16 (2006.01), a method is proposed for obtaining transparent optical oxide ceramics based on magnesium aluminum spinel MgAl 2 O 4 . The main stages of ceramic synthesis: the initial spinel powder is obtained from solutions of double magnesium-aluminum isopropoxide by the reaction of hydrolysis of double magnesium-aluminum isopropoxide and an azeotropic mixture of isopropyl alcohol-water at a temperature not exceeding 100 ° C at a ratio of double magnesium-aluminum isopropoxide: water 1:8 ; the resulting spinel powder in the form of magnesium-aluminum hydroxide is subjected to calcination at 1100-1200°C, followed by hot pressing at 1400-1500°C and gas-static pressing at 1700-1900°C.
The proposed method has serious drawbacks: high synthesis temperatures initiate coarsening of ceramic grains; in the presented method, there are no luminescent properties in nanoceramics in the spectral range from 330 nm to 550 nm.
Zhang J. et al. Related mechanism of transparency in MgAl2O4 nano-ceramics prepared by sintering under high pressure and low temperature // Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics. - 2009. - T. 42. - №. 5. In: Zhang J. et al. Related mechanism of transparency in MgAl 2 O 4 nano-ceramics prepared by sintering under high pressure and low temperature // Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics. - 2009. - T. 42. - No. 5. - C. 052002 DOI: 10.1088/0022-3727/42/5/052002 a method for the synthesis of optically transparent MgAl 2 O 4 nanoceramics is considered. The initial MgAl 2 O 4 nanopowder was obtained by molten salt sintering. After that, granules are formed from the obtained MgAl 2 O 4 nanopowder and they are degassed as a result of thermal vacuum treatment. MgAl 2 O 4 nanoceramics were obtained in the temperature range from 500 to 800°C at synthesis pressures of 3, 4, and 5 GPa. A distinctive feature of the method is the transparency of up to 77% of nanoceramics at a wavelength of 1000 nm and 33% at a wavelength of 500 nm.
The proposed method for the synthesis of MgAl 2 O 4 nanoceramics has serious drawbacks: ceramic grains are formed from particles with a characteristic size of 40 nm, which reduces the transparency of such ceramics in the UV spectral range due to scattering effects; ceramics lack photoluminescent properties.

Low-temperature high-pressure preparation of transparent nanocrystalline MgAl2O4 ceramics // Applied physics letters. - 2006. -T. 88. - №. 21. In: Lu T. C. et al. The described method includes operations: primary synthesis of nanosized powder of aluminum-magnesium spinel by gel hardening from a mixture of aluminum and magnesium sulfates at a temperature of 1150°C; encapsulation of the initial MgAl 2 O 4 nanopowder as a result of applying a thin film coating of NaCl-ZrO 2 and subsequent thermobaric treatment of the capsule in a specific installation with a cubic anvil and six pressure sources located in such a way as to realize the effect of all-round compression in the pressure range from 2 GPa to 5 GPa with a simultaneous increase in temperature to values of 500-700 ° C, and a holding time under the specified conditions of 30 minutes; cooling the material to room temperature under conditions of a given pressure, followed by pressure relief. The critical factor in obtaining transparent spinel nanoceramics is the simultaneous presence of both pressure in the specified range and temperature. The method described above makes it possible to obtain optically transparent aluminum-magnesium spinel nanoceramics in the spectral range from 500 to 2500 nm. Light transmission at a wavelength of 1000 nm is 37%. In addition, the method allows you to save the nanoscale structure of the crystallites.
С.et al. Low-temperature high-pressure preparation of transparent nanocrystalline MgAl2O4 ceramics //Applied physics letters. - 2006. - T. 88. - №. 21. The spectrum is presented for a sample synthesized at 3.7 GPa, 620°C), as well as a micrograph of scanning electron microscopy (in the inset, bottom right ) of the polished nanoceramic surface (for the sample synthesized at 3.7 GPa, 620°С). This technical solution, which is taken as a prototype, makes it possible to form optically transparent MgAl 2 O 4 nanoceramics with an average grain size of about 61 nm, optical transparency in the visible spectral range of ~ 7% at a wavelength of 500 nm, while not luminescing at 330-550 nm spectral range.
Modern functional optical nanomaterials that are promising as radiation converters, as well as phosphors used in LEDs of various types, should have increased transparency in the near UV spectral range, and, in addition, a photoluminescent response that makes it possible to form a white glow in the general case, and blue in particular cases. , green and red to realize a wide color range. In the considered prototype, the large size of particles forming nanoceramics (and, as a result, low optical transparency in the visible and near UV spectral ranges), as well as the absence of a photoluminescent signal, do not allow it to be used as promising radiation converters, as well as phosphors used in various types of LEDs.
The problem can be solved thanks to a method for obtaining a luminescent transparent MgAl 2 O 4 nanoceramic, including the synthesis of the initial MgAl 2 O 4 nanopowder, its degassing, encapsulation, thermobaric pressing, characterized in that the synthesis of the initial MgAl 2 O 4 nanopowder is carried out by co-precipitation from nitrate solutions, the region of coherent scattering of particles of the initial MgAl 2 O 4 nanopowder lies in the range from 15 to 35 nm, graphene nanopowder with a particle size of 3-10 nm is mechanically added to the degassed MgAl 2 O 4 nanopowder, the encapsulation of the mixture of MgAl 2 O 4 nanopowders and graphene is carried out in platinum foil, after which the capsule is subjected to thermobaric effects as a result of quasi-hydrostatic compression, in the temperature range of 550-600°C for 10 minutes at a pressure of 2 to 8 GPa.
The encapsulation can also be carried out in gold foil or foil of precious metals that are not subject to oxidation up to a temperature of 650°C.
As the initial nanopowder, MgAl 2 O 4 nanopowder synthesized by co-precipitation from solutions of aluminum and magnesium nitrates is used, with a crystallite size, the coherent scattering region of which lies in the range from 15 to 35 nm. The specified range is optimal for solving the above problem, which is confirmed by experience.
Degassing of the original spinel MgAl 2 O 4 nanopowder is performed in a temperature range from 500 to 600°C in a vacuum furnace to remove impurities sorbed from the atmosphere. Temperatures below this range do not provide the necessary parameters for the level of degassing due to insufficient thermal energy to break the bond between the impurity molecules and the surface chemical bonds of the nanowire. Temperatures above this range lead to agglomeration of nanoparticles as a result of activation of grain boundaries and interfaces.
Mixing of MgAl 2 O 4 nanopowder with a crystallite size, the coherent scattering region of which lies in the range from 15 to 35 nm, with an admixture of graphene nanopowder with a particle size of 3-10 nm, manufactured by Rusgraphen LLC, is carried out in a sapphire mortar with a sapphire pestle. Sapphire has a higher density and hardness compared to spinel, as a result of which mechanical processing of spinel in sapphire glassware does not lead to strong contamination of the initial nanopowder with impurity phases. The increased abrasive characteristics of the MgAl 2 O 4 nanopowder as a result of mechanical mixing with graphene additionally lead to crushing of agglomerates in the graphene nanopowder. The admixture of graphene ensures the formation of graphene quantum dots during the subsequent thermobaric action, the luminescent characteristics of which provide the photoluminescent features of transparent nanoceramics.
Encapsulation of a mixture of graphene and spinel powders is carried out to exclude the interaction of the spinel nanopowder with the walls of the graphite heater. For these purposes, platinum foil can be used, as well as foils of noble metals such as gold or iridium, which are not subject to oxidation to a temperature of 650 ° C.
After the encapsulation process is completed, the mixtures of powders are subjected to comprehensive thermobaric action, characterized by quasi-hydrostatic compression in the temperature range of 550-600°C and synthesis pressures in the range of 2 to 8 GPa (GigaPascals) for 10 minutes. The quasi-hydrostatic effect is achieved by placing a capsule with a mixture of MgAl 2 O 4 and graphene nanopowders in the center of a lithographic stone toroid (CaSO 4 ). Further, such an assembly is clamped in a special reciprocal toroidal chamber, and the chamber is clamped between the anvils of a hydraulic press. As a result of compression of the press punches, the capsule in the lithographic stone toroid is compressed not only in the direction of the axis of the punches, but also in the direction of extrusion of the lithographic stone into the toroid (similar to a compressible ring). Then there is a cooling in a natural way and the subsequent removal of pressure. Temperatures below the specified values do not allow initiating thermal activation processes at the boundaries of nanograins, as a result of which a network of cracks is formed in ceramics, which reduces optical transparency; temperatures above the specified range of values cause intensive growth of nanograins, as a result of which the effects of scattering on particles that are comparable to the wavelength of radiation passing through the medium are enhanced. Pressure below 2 GPa is not enough to form a close-packed structure, and, accordingly, at such pressures, optically transparent nanoceramics are not formed. At pressures above 8 GPa, microinclusions of MgAl 2 O 4 spinel phases, which are characterized by orthorhombic symmetry, stabilize. The main disadvantage in this case is the low stability of this phase and the implementation of the first-order interphase transition, in which, when the pressure is removed, the metastable orthorhombic phase transforms into a stable cubic phase. The process is accompanied by cotton, and the sample itself cracks. The exposure time of 10 minutes is determined experimentally. Long exposure times do not lead to significant changes in the transparency of the samples, with a shorter exposure time, the transparency decreases due to incomplete sintering of nanograins.

1.The synthesized ceramics is a transparent dense cylinder. The phases related to platinum (Pt) and corundum (Al 2 O 3 ) are of an impurity nature and are associated with a mixing step in a sapphire mortar and a platinum foil encapsulation step, FIG. 3, tab. one.

The figure 5 shows the photoluminescence spectra of transparent nanoceramic MgAl 2 O 4 taken at different excitation wavelengths. Ceramics synthesized at 4 GPa.
MgAl2O4.Table 1 lists the values of the lattice constant, crystallographic angles, unit cell volume, space group, and concentration of the detected phase based on the analysis of FIG. 3 luminescent transparent nanoceramics MgAl 2 O 4 .
The sign of "thermobaric action" is a significant difference that ensures the transparency of nanoceramics, as well as luminescence characteristics in the range from 330 to 550 nm due to the dense packing of crystallites during synthesis, maintaining their size relative to the original nanopowder, and also deformation of graphene plates in the directions of compaction of the mixture spinel nanopowders with graphene and obtaining graphene quantum dots. The size distribution of graphene quantum dots leads to the formation of selectivity of photoluminescent characteristics, as a result of which a change in the excitation wavelength leads to a shift in the photoluminescence peak, which is clearly demonstrated in Fig. 5. The method of uniaxial hot pressing does not allow for the required synthesis modes due to a design flaw in which these synthesis modes will lead to irreversible destruction of the heating element and, in combination, the mold. The method of isostatic pressing also does not allow one to realize the necessary synthesis parameters, such as pressures above 2 GPa.
A new technical result of the invention is the expansion of the arsenal of methods for the synthesis of luminescent transparent MgAl 2 O 4 nanoceramics that provide tunable photoluminescent properties of optically transparent spinel nanoceramics in the range from 330 to 550 nm.
The use of the proposed new method for obtaining luminescent transparent MgAl 2 O 4 nanoceramics is of practical interest for the production of transparent nanoluminophores with a tunable wavelength of luminescence, the production of optical sensors and sensors that are sensitive to the UV spectral range, and is also a promising transparent material for LCD matrices.
