Abstract
Description
The invention relates to pressure welding, in particular, resistance welding and can be used for the manufacture of structures consisting of a combination of materials with high thermal conductivity, for example, copper and copper-based alloys. The invention can be applied in almost many industries.
Н.А. А., Миркин A.M. Known electrodes for contact spot and roller welding of various steels and alloys, aluminum alloys (1. Welding in mechanical engineering. Handbook in 4. / M .: "Mechanical Engineering", 1978, v. 1. / Edited by N.A. Olshansky, 1978, 504 pp. 2. Axelrod FA, Mirkin AM Equipment for pressure welding. M.: Higher School, 1975, 240 p). The main requirements for resistance welding electrodes are high electrical and thermal conductivity of the material, as well as maximum mechanical compressive strength. In the process of spot welding, the electrodes undergo significant heating with simultaneous compression. In addition, due to uneven heating, thermal stresses arise inside the electrodes, and the stability of obtaining a high-quality welded joint largely depends on maintaining the shape of the working surface of the electrodes in contact with the parts being welded. During roller welding, a current of 1.5–2 times greater than during spot welding flows. In addition, the ID of seam welding machines is much greater than that of spot welding machines. All this leads to significantly greater heat generation in the weld zone, to higher current densities on the contact surface of the roller and to higher specific pressures.
Based on these requirements, the main material for the electrodes is copper. Copper-based alloys can also serve, for example, chromium copper, chromium zirconium copper, beryllium copper, etc., in which the resistance is 3-5 times higher than the resistance of pure copper electrodes.
These electrodes, unfortunately, are practically not applicable for the implementation of the technology of resistance welding of products made of copper itself, since they cannot melt the metal in the welding zone due to the high electrical and thermal conductivity of copper, again.
Patents are known, for example, Nos. 4683890, 5083930 and 5127299 (Japan), in accordance with which electrodes are used for spot and seam welding of copper and copper alloy products. They are a core made of refractory material (W, Mo, CuW, AgW, etc.), which is fixed by brazing inside a copper sheath. Such electrodes are distinguished by strength, hardness, heat resistance, stability of operation while ensuring good quality of the connection of parts from copper and copper alloys.
However, electrodes made using soldering have the following disadvantages: 1. Solder is a certain barrier to the removal of heat from a refractory rod to a copper shell; 2. The presence of non-solder or pores in the soldered seam also leads to overheating of the electrode and its rapid exit from a healthy state. 3. Under conditions of mass production of products using such electrodes, the electrode itself may overheat and, as a result, melt the solder and damage the electrode. In addition, the use of such technology for the manufacture of a seam welding roller, taking into account thermomechanical loads during the welding process, does not make such a roller a serially capable electrode.
These shortcomings are deprived of electrodes manufactured by the proposed technical solution (Fig. 1 and 2). The electrode for spot welding of articles made of copper and copper alloys is a rod made of copper or copper alloy, on the working end of which an insert is mounted made of a material with a higher melting temperature compared to the electrode (W, Mo, graphite, etc.). This insert is attached to the copper electrode using diffusion welding technology. In this case, the insert is immersed in the working end of the electrode to a depth corresponding to its thickness, which is equal to the diameter of the insert, and the ratio of the diameter of the insert to the diameter of the copper electrode is 1: 2. Such ratios are selected on the basis of experimental studies on the resistance of electrodes. At lower ratios, the heat sink from the welding site increases and the spot welding mode (current, magnitude and pulse duration) must be overestimated. At high ratios, the insert made of refractory material overheats due to slow heat removal (the distance from the working end of the insert to the copper electrode is increased) and it is destroyed.
As the insert material, tungsten or graphite are selected.
They made contact spot and roller welding of copper foil with a thickness of 0.5 + 0.5 mm. For spot welding, electrodes with a diameter of 6 mm made of copper with an insert of tungsten (diameter 4 mm and height 4 mm) were used. Previously, the insert was welded to the copper electrode by diffusion welding, while the immersion depth of the insert was 1/3, and 3/4 of its thickness, i.e. 1.3 mm, 2 mm and 3 mm. As a result of the experiments, copper foil compounds were obtained. The difference consisted in the resistance of tungsten inserts: the insert with 2 mm immersion (about 80 points) turned out to be the most stable; least resistant insert with immersion of 1.3 mm - tungsten overheated and began to collapse after the 54th point; an insert with a 3 mm immersion provided a high-quality connection with an increased pulse current.
Similar tests were carried out using a roller made of copper and a tungsten rod around it, attached by diffusion welding.
Welded samples were subjected to tensile tests according to standard methods. Tests have shown that the joints are equally strong, the nucleus of the welding point breaks out on the base metal.
