Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of measurement technology, namely, to control the parameters of the scintillation detector, and can be used to control the quality of the assembly of the scintillation detector and its condition under various operating conditions during the entire service life.
Scintillation detectors, based on various types of scintillating materials, are used in the registration of ionizing radiation for scientific and technical purposes in both ground and space measurements. Plastic scintillation detectors are especially widely used due to their manufacturability in the manufacture of almost any shape and size. An important characteristic of scintillation detectors is the efficiency of photon collection of scintillation flash photons in the detector, which determines its sensitivity to ionizing radiation.
Assembly quality control of a scintillation detector is necessary during its manufacture and use as a part of mobile devices and installations under various operating conditions during the entire service life to ensure high light collection and operation of the detector itself.
A known method of calibrating the scintillation path (Patent RU 2367978, 01/21/2008), consisting of a scintillation detector and a channel for transmitting electrical pulses to the analyzer. The method consists in using a sequence of reference light pulses, one of which is fed to the input of the optical detector of the scintillation tract, and the second, offset from the first, is fed to the scintillator.
However, this method is aimed at calibrating the corresponding devices and does not allow to determine the parameters of the scintillation detector, characterizing the light collection in it.
A known method of calibrating muon hodoscopes (Patent RU 2461903, 09/20/2012), which evaluates the response of individual scintillation hodoscope detectors using registration of muon tracks generated by the interaction of cosmic rays with the atmosphere.
However, this method determines the effectiveness of hodoscope scintillation detectors and also does not allow determining the parameters of the scintillation detector characterizing light collection in it.
The closest technical solution, which is adopted as a prototype, is a method for determining the parameters of a scintillation detector (Patent RU 2365943, 08.27.2009) by controlling the amplitudes of two delayed output pulses of the photodetector from two corresponding light sources, the first of which illuminates the photodetector cathode, the second light source excite the luminescence of the scintillator, which is installed through the immersion layer on the substrate of the photocathode of the photodetector, while the radiation spectrum of the second source is selected light below the lower boundary of the luminescence spectrum of the scintillator, while the radiation spectrum of the first light source is selected corresponding to the effective luminescence length of the scintillator. This method allows you to control only the optical contact between the scintillator and the photomultiplier and does not allow you to control the parameters that determine the scintillator light collection: absorption length, quality and type of coating of its faces, i.e. build quality of the scintillation detector as a whole.
The technical result consists in expanding the functionality of monitoring the parameters of the scintillation detector, which determine its light collection (absorption length, quality and type of coating of the scintillator faces, optical contact between the scintillator and the photodetector) after its assembly and during operation.
The indicated technical result is achieved by simultaneously measuring the amplitude of the signals generated by the passage of single high-energy charged particles through the scintillation detector, and the coordinates of the passage of each particle recorded in it for different points of the scintillator, after which the dependence of the signal amplitude on the passage of the particle is determined, control of parameters by comparing the measured amplitude-coordinate dependence with the calculated similar dependence w using the actual configuration of the test scintillation detector and the known values of the parameters determining its light harvesting: the absorption length of the scintillator, the quality and type of the coating of its faces, the optical contact between the scintillator and the photodetector.
В частном случае сравнение зависимостей проводится по критерию согласия Пирсона χ2.In the particular case, the comparison of the dependences is carried out according to the Pearson agreement criterion χ 2 .
The following is a specific example of the implementation of the proposed method for controlling the parameters of a scintillation detector. High-energy muons of atmospheric origin (E> 1 GeV) formed by the interaction of cosmic rays with the Earth’s atmosphere are used as registered high-energy charged particles.
8.In FIG. Figure 1 shows the general scheme for measuring the amplitude-coordinate dependence for a controlled scintillation detector using an atmospheric muon flux. The circuit consists of a
8.The device operates as follows. When the muon passes through
In the measurement process, information is accumulated on the amplitudes of the signals from the
The dependence of the amplitude of the signal of the
Table 1 presents the results of the calculated amplitude-coordinate dependence for the known parameters of the scintillation detector: a scintillator measuring 10 × 10 × 1 cm 3 , absorption length 160 cm (BC-404, Bicron), reflective coating efficiency - 0.82, photodetector (PMT, Hamamatsu R5611-01A). The measured amplitudes of the signals from the detectors D1 and D2 after their assembly are also presented. The calculated values of the signal amplitudes are compared with two experimental data sets in the case under consideration according to the Pearson agreement criterion χ 2 (as an example of the implementation of the proposed method).
For detector D1 = 1.8, which, with the number of degrees of
Thus, the proposed method for controlling the parameters of the scintillation detector allows you to control the parameters that determine the light collection of the scintillation detector both after its assembly and during operation.
