Abstract
Description
The invention relates to radiochemical technology and can be used in the processing of ammonium-containing technological solutions and liquid radioactive waste (LRW) generated during the operation of radiochemical production.
Ammonium nitrate is one of the by-products of various processes of radiochemical technology. Significant amounts of ammonium-containing technological solutions and LRW of low and medium levels of activity are formed during the production and processing of nuclear fuel. Since ammonium nitrate belongs to the class of potentially hazardous chemical compounds due to its ability to detonate under certain conditions, decomposition of ammonium nitrate into simple stable products is a necessary condition for ensuring industrial safety during the final disposal of technological ammonium-containing solutions and LRW.
From the existing level of technology there is known a method of oxidative destruction of ammonium salts, including lapping the processed solution with nitric acid, heating and mixing the solution with an inductor, which is used as formaldehyde [Patent RU 2329554 C2, G21F 9/06, publ. 07/20/2008]. Despite the high degree of oxidative decomposition of ammonium, the disadvantages of the known method are: the static mode of the process, which determines the duration of the production cycle; high activity of the oxidizing system with a nitric acid content in the process up to 10 mol / l; increase in the initial volume of the solution due to the introduction of a formaldehyde solution.
Closest to the claimed method is a method of decomposition of ammonium nitrate in the processes of homogeneous and catalytic denitration [A.V. Ananyev, I.G. Tananaev, V.P. Shilov. Radiochemistry, 2005.V. 47, No. 2, p. 140-144], selected as a prototype and including the decomposition of ammonium nitrate in the HNO 3 -HCOOH system in the presence of a 1% Pt / SiO 2 catalyst. The disadvantages of this method include the static mode of the process and, as a consequence, low productivity, causing the complexity of technological adaptation; high consumption of nitric acid per 1 mol of ammonium nitrate; the presence of residual formic acid in solution after decomposition of ammonium nitrate; increase in the initial volume of the solution due to the introduction of the formic acid solution.
Carrying out the process in static mode involves the use of a significant reactor apparatus, which will require measures to organize the explosion safety of the process with the simultaneous presence of a highly concentrated solution of an explosive compound in a strong oxidizing medium.
The prerequisite of the invention is the need for decomposition of ammonium nitrate in solution with minimization of the reaction volume at a high process speed.
The objective of the invention is to develop a technologically suitable method that allows the process of decomposition of ammonium nitrate with high performance without changing the salt composition of the processed solution.
The problem is solved by organizing a heterogeneous catalytically activated process of decomposition of an oxidation process inducer in a dynamic mode in a column type apparatus when oxalic acid is used as an inductor.
The technical result of the invention is the quantitative decomposition of ammonium nitrate in technological solutions in a wide range of concentrations.
To achieve the specified technical result in the method of decomposition of ammonium nitrate in technological solutions of radiochemical production, including heating and adjustment of the solution with nitric acid, the process of decomposition of ammonium nitrate is carried out in a system of nitric and oxalic acids in the presence of a solid-phase platinum-containing catalyst in dynamic mode in a thermostatically controlled column type continuous apparatus actions.
The essence of the invention lies in the quantitative preparation of the oxidizing component in the localized pore volume of the granular catalyst bed as a result of the catalytically activated decomposition of the oxidation process inductor. The use of oxalic acid as an inducer of the oxidation process is a hallmark of the proposed method.
(2):The mechanism of the decomposition of ammonium nitrate is its oxidative destruction during interaction with nitrous acid (1), which is formed as a result of a heterogeneous catalytic process of nitric acid reduction with oxalic acid on a solid-phase platinum-containing catalyst (2):
(4), (5):Since the interaction of nitric and oxalic acids is also accompanied by the formation of nitrogen oxides (3), the return of gaseous reaction products (NO x gases) into the reaction medium by forced upward flow into the catalysis zone of the column (unidirectional to the main stream) with the effect of dispersing the gas phase in the granular the catalyst layer provides an increase in the degree of decomposition of ammonium nitrate due to an increase in the concentration and accumulation of nitrous acid (oxidizing component) in the system (4), (5):
(0,5÷5):1.The quantitative decomposition of oxalic acid is achieved by organizing a dynamic mode of catalytic activation of the process. For this purpose, during the decomposition of ammonium nitrate, the concentration of nitric acid is maintained at a level of 4 ÷ 5.5 mol / L. At the same time, in the initial solution, a concentration of oxalic acid is created in the range of 0.2 ÷ 2 mol / L. The amount of oxalic acid introduced is determined by the content of ammonium nitrate in the feed stream. The molar ratio of oxalic acid and ammonium nitrate is maintained at the level of (0.5 ÷ 5): 1.
The dosage of oxalic acid for the decomposition of ammonia is carried out in solid form through a loading device of a thermostatically controlled storage tank with the initial ammonium-containing solution. In order to increase the concentration of oxalic acid to a level of more than 1 mol / L and to exclude crystallization processes with the introduction of oxalic acid, the temperature of the ammonium-containing solution in the supply storage tank is 60–75 ° С.
In the particular case, it is possible to carry out the saturation process of the initial solution in a column-type thermostat-controlled apparatus at a temperature of 70–75 ° C when feeding oxalic acid (inductor) in solid form through a loading device, which is a continuous-acting dispenser. The maximum saturation of an ammonium nitrate-containing solution with oxalic acid is obtained when it is continuously gravitationally dosed in dry form by a counter flow into the main upward feed stream.
To eliminate the likelihood of crystallization of oxalic acid in the volume of the solution, the transportation of the initial solution (containing ammonium nitrate, nitric and oxalic acids) is carried out via heated communications.
The completeness of the decomposition of ammonium nitrate generated by the decomposition of the inductor (oxalic acid) by the oxidizing component (nitrous acid) is achieved by the temperature of the process in the range of 80 ÷ 95 ° C while maintaining the feed flow rate of the initial solution of ammonium nitrate in the range of 3-4 columns. r / h
As a solid-phase platinum-containing catalyst, a bimetallic platinum-zirconium catalyst is used, supported on an inert porous carrier with a mass content of platinum from 0.05 to 0.2% of the mass. and zirconium up to 1% of the mass. In a particular case, silica gel fraction 0.2 ÷ 0.5 mm, aluminum oxide fraction 0.3 ÷ 1.0 mm are used as a catalyst carrier.
1:(3÷30).The completeness of the decomposition of ammonium nitrate is achieved by the rate of decomposition of the oxidation process inducer (oxalic acid) in a column-type thermostatic apparatus with a diameter to height ratio of the bulk catalyst layer in the range 1: (3 ÷ 30).
В зависимости от требуемой скорости потока и концентрации нитрата аммония в исходном растворе процесс разложения нитрата аммония может содержать от 1 до 4 ступеней (циклов).Depending on the desired flow rate and the concentration of ammonium nitrate in the initial solution, the decomposition of ammonium nitrate may contain from 1 to 4 steps (cycles).
The possibility of implementing the proposed method is confirmed by research on a manufactured laboratory setup. The instrumentation diagram is shown in FIG. 1. The installation includes: a device for dispensing (dry) oxalic acid with a valve (1), a heated storage tank with the initial ammonium-containing solution (2), diaphragm pumps (3, 6), thermostat (4), a catalytic column (5), receiving storage tank for solution after decomposition of ammonium nitrate (7), control valves (B01 ÷ B10). The oxalic acid dosing device, the thermostat, and the electric drives of the pumps are removed from the technological zone (canyon of the protective zone) to the room of the hall to ensure a stable and safe process flow.
The proposed method is implemented in the following sequence: a solid-phase catalyst is prepared (by reducing metal platinum and zirconium on the surface of the carrier), the prepared catalyst is placed in a catalytic column. The column is a vertical thermostatic apparatus with a lower solution flow, having a laminar flow zone, a catalysis zone, a gas separation zone. The catalysis zone is cut off by mesh partitions. The prepared catalyst is poured through the upper loading hatch and sealed by the upper mesh partition. The catalysis zone is a vertical cylindrical column filled with a catalyst in the ratio “diameter / height” 1: (3 ÷ 30). The catalyst is a porous support uniform in particle size distribution with a grain size of 0.2 ÷ 1.0 mm, having an active surface area of 10 ÷ 250 m 2 / g, with an ultrafine uniform metal layer (platinum, zirconium) deposited. The initial ammonium-containing solution in the storage tank is adjusted with nitric acid to a concentration of 4.0 ÷ 5.5 mol / L. Through the dosing device, oxalic acid is added (in solid form) to the initial solution to a concentration of 0.5–2 mol / L, and the storage tank is heated to prevent crystallization of oxalic acid in the solution. After adjustment with nitric acid and saturation with oxalic acid, the ammonium-containing solution is transferred (via heated communications to exclude the possibility of crystallization of oxalic acid in solution) to a catalytic column in which the process of decomposition of ammonium nitrate is carried out. After the catalytic column, the solution is sent to a receiving storage tank and analyzed for the content of ammonium, nitric and oxalic acids. If necessary, the solution is sent to a repeated decomposition cycle of ammonium nitrate. The hardware diagram of the process provides the possibility of several cycles (steps) of decomposition of ammonium nitrate, depending on its concentration in the initial solution.
