Abstract
Description
The invention relates to powder metallurgy, in particular, to the production of tungsten carbide powder, which is used in the production of hard alloys for wear-resistant parts of mechanisms, cutting and drilling tools.
(CH4-H2).There are various methods for producing carbides of refractory metals, including tungsten. On an industrial scale, tungsten carbide is obtained by reducing its oxide (WO 3 ) with carbon to form WC [1]. A process is used in which, at the first stage, tungsten powder is obtained by reducing WO 3 oxide with hydrogen in tube furnaces with gradual heating from 700 to 1100 ° C, then the metal powder is carbidized with solid carbon or a carbon-containing gas phase (CH 4 -H 2 ).
[2].However, the known methods are characterized by low productivity, high costs [2].
[3].A known method in which tungsten carbide is obtained from scheelite concentrate by its reduction with aluminum. At the same time, along with aluminum, calcium carbide CaC 2 and iron oxide Fe 2 O 3 are introduced into the charge. The process proceeds at a temperature of 2500 ° C. The result is a sintered material containing tungsten carbide WC mixed with iron and aluminum oxides, calcium. The resulting product is crushed and washed from impurities with acid solutions [3].
However, the disadvantages of the method are the complicated technological scheme, the high temperature of the process, the need for grinding and purification from impurities upon receipt of the powder.
Способ позволяет получать дисперсные порошки карбида вольфрама, при этом отличается недостаточно высокой производительностью и повышенной энергоемкостью |4|.A known method of producing tungsten carbide, based on high-temperature electrochemical synthesis in an environment of molten alkali metal salts at a temperature of 850-1000 ° C. The method allows to obtain dispersed tungsten carbide powders, while it is not sufficiently high performance and high energy consumption | 4 |.
(HCl, H2SO4).Closest to the proposed technical essence and the achieved result is a method for producing tungsten carbide, which is performed in the mode of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis. The process is based on the exothermic reaction of tungsten oxide, carbon (soot) and magnesium metal. The temperature of the process is 3000 ° C. The result is a cake consisting of tungsten carbide and magnesium oxide. The cake is ground, magnesium oxide is washed with acid solutions (HCl, H 2 SO 4 ).
[5].However, the disadvantages of the method include the high temperature of synthesis, the need for grinding cake and its cleaning with acid solutions to obtain powder [5].
The technical task of the claimed technical solution is to significantly reduce the temperature upon receipt of a fine powder of tungsten carbide.
The goal is achieved in that in the method for producing tungsten carbide powder according to the invention, the synthesis of the target product is carried out by reducing tungsten oxide and carbon monoxide (CO 2 ) with metallic magnesium in a melt of lithium carbonate (Li 2 CO 3 ) at 800-900 ° C. The ratio of the starting compound (WO 3 ) and the solvent (Li 2 CO 3 ) was maintained equal to 1: 5-7. Magnesium metal powder is introduced into the WO 3 solution in the Li 2 CO 3 melt in an amount corresponding to the calculated one based on the stoichiometry of the reaction:
The advantage of the proposed solution is that, as part of a one-step process, a fine-dispersed WC powder is obtained that does not require additional grinding at a lower temperature in comparison with the known method.
Method implementation examples
Example 1. Prepare a mixture of 50 g of lithium carbonate and 10 g of tungsten oxide. The mixture is melted at a temperature of 800 ° C. 4 g of magnesium metal are introduced into the transparent melt. As a result, a fine tungsten carbide powder is formed in the reaction volume. The melt is maintained until the powder is completely deposited on the bottom of the melt (15-20 minutes). Then the melt is drained from the precipitate. The powder is washed from the residue of salts with water. The resulting product is analyzed. The results of x-ray phase analysis indicate the formation of single-phase tungsten carbide WC. The content of impurities in the synthesis product does not exceed 2% of the mass. Granulometric analysis of the powder showed that the average particle size is 8.7 microns.
Example 2.
