Abstract
Description
The invention relates to radiochemical technology, in particular to methods for the regeneration of nitric acid from radioactive waste by distillation with its purification from hydrofluoric acid used in radiochemical production. It can be applied as one of the stages of processing nitric acid derived from the technological process.
A known method of purification of nitric acid from fluoride impurities, which are hydrofluoric acid, when it is distilled. In this method, nitric acid containing a fluoride impurity is distilled in the presence of aluminum and calcium nitrates in the cube, whereby calcium nitrate is introduced to increase the degree of nitric acid stripping. The purified nitric acid is discharged into the distillate. Purification is achieved provided that the A1 / F molar ratio is at least 6 and the Ca / Al molar ratio is at least 4 [US Patent No. 3,846,256 “Chemical trap”, 09.17.1973. IPC B 01 d 3/00, 3/34, C 01 b 9/08; U.S. Cl.203-33]. This method, as a means of the same purpose with similar characteristics, is taken as a prototype.
The claimed ratio Al / F≥6, the authors substantiate, based on the equation
However, in all the examples cited, the molar ratio A1 / F in the cube exceeds 900, that is, the substitution of nitrate for fluoride does not go beyond the first stage of complexation. As a result, the complexing capabilities of aluminum are far from being fully utilized, and the proposed equation distorts the essence of the occurring phenomena. The declared fluoride ion purification coefficients achieved during the experiments are, depending on conditions, in the range of 20-800. At the same time, the authors limit the concentration of nitric acid to be purified to the range of 1-3 mol / L with a maximum fluoride content of not more than 5 g / L.
In addition to aluminum nitrate, calcium nitrate is introduced into the process, additionally populating the system. The latter was introduced, according to the authors, to reduce the hydrolysis of aluminum nitrate. In fact, it was introduced as a salting out agent, which allows nitric acid to be distilled off while reducing the amount of aluminum nitrate, which allows the system to be within hydrolytic stability.
The objective of the invention is to increase the degree of purification of nitric acid from hydrofluoric acid, expanding the concentration ranges of the nitric acid to be purified and its contamination with fluoride ion, as well as a relative reduction in the salinity of the system.
This is achieved during the distillation of the initial solution - nitric acid containing fluoride ion, while maintaining in a continuously updated bottoms solution an experimentally determined amount of aluminum nitrate in a melt state with a constant concentration under conditions of acid deficiency. Under such conditions, aluminum hydratonitrate formed in the first stage of hydrolysis reacts with the fluoride ion to form a non-volatile complex.
In this case, in contrast to the prototype, the extremely low molar ratio A1 / F can be equal to 1. The intervals of the feasibility of the method are the concentrations of aluminum nitrate 80-130 g / l metal and the concentration of the initial nitric acid 0.5-6 mol / l. The purified nitric acid is discharged into the distillate.
The experimentally constant concentration ratio A1 / F was maintained by introducing aluminum nitrate dissolved in nitric acid, together with a nitric acid feed stream containing an admixture of hydrofluoric acid, into the evaporator and continuously (or periodically) withdrawing part of the bottoms solution (melt). As tests of the process on a bench have shown, a given concentration of nitric acid in the diet corresponds to its own specific concentration of aluminum nitrate, at which an optimum acid deficiency is achieved. This moment can be fixed at the boiling point of the melt at constant pressure. A lower acid concentration corresponds to a lower content of aluminum nitrate in the melt: a higher acid concentration requires a higher salt content. Thus, the required acid deficiency in the system can be created by a corresponding change in the concentrations of aluminum nitrate and nitric acid introduced as nutrition.
When the concentration of aluminum nitrate is less than 80 g / l on the metal, the hydrolysis proceeds in the second stage, and as a result, aluminum oxide precipitates. At a concentration above 130 g / l on the metal, crystallization water evaporates and the process of denitration of aluminum nitrate begins with the formation of a monolithic insoluble composite (“goat”). The temperature of the melt is ~ 130 ° C (at atmospheric pressure). A concentration of nitric acid below 0.5 mol / L displays the required concentration of aluminum nitrate below an acceptable level of 80 g / L, while with an increase in the concentration of nitric acid more than 6 mol / L, the upper temperature limit of system stability is exceeded.
A series of experiments conducted at optimal ratios of concentrations of aluminum nitrate and injected nitric acid showed a higher degree of purification of nitric acid from hydrofluoric acid compared to the prototype. So, in the case of a concentration of the initial nitric acid of 3 mol / L, the degree of purification from hydrofluoric acid reaches 2000; for 6 mol / L nitric acid, it exceeds 300. A decrease in the molar ratio A1 / F to 1 leads to a decrease in the degree of purification by about an order of magnitude, and with its further decrease the goal is no longer achieved.
The cleaning efficiency can be improved by some modification of the process scheme. An evaporator with trays was used; moreover, aluminum nitrate was introduced into the process on the upper plate with reflux, in contrast to the case considered above, where aluminum nitrate was supplied to the cube together with the feed solution or in its composition. After passing the plates, aluminum nitrate was concentrated in a cube. The purified nitric acid, as before, was removed to the distillate.
In this variant of the process, as in the previous one, the purification of nitric acid occurs mainly in the cube, where the aluminum nitrate melt is located. Moreover, due to the low concentration of hydrofluoric acid in the secondary pair leaving the cube, high A1 / F ratios (estimated by tens of thousands) are provided on the plates, which provides additional cleaning on the plates in the acidic region.
20000.The total effect during the process according to this scheme is significant: the coefficient of purification of nitric acid from hydrofluoric acid exceeds 20,000.
Examples.
The process is carried out in an evaporator without plates. A feeding solution (3 mol / L nitric acid containing hydrofluoric acid) and a solution of aluminum nitrate in 3 mol / L nitric acid are fed into the cube of the apparatus. Aluminum nitrate is concentrated in a cube up to ~ 100 g / l for metal and is in a state of melt at a temperature of 115 ° C. A constant concentration of aluminum in the cube is maintained by periodically draining the bottom solution (melt). Under these conditions, an acid deficiency of 0.1 mol / mol A1 is achieved in the system. The product is the distillate of the residue - nitric acid. During the experiment, the ratio A1 / F in the cube of the apparatus was changed by varying the content of hydrofluoric acid in the diet. The effect of this ratio on the degree of purification of nitric acid from hydrofluoric acid is shown in the table (modes 1-2).
Example 2. The process is carried out under the conditions of example 1 and shows an extremely low molar ratio A1 / F = 1.0. The concentration of HF in the initial solution is 9.6 g / l, the A1 content in the still solution (melt) is 130 g / l (mode 3 of the table). The temperature in the cube is 126 ° C. Purification of nitric acid from hydrofluoric acid is reduced by an order of magnitude, which indicates the achievement of the limit of capabilities of the method.
The process is carried out under the conditions of example 1. The concentration of the initial nitric acid is increased to 6 mol / l, and the A1 content in the still solution (melt) is increased to 130 g / l. The temperature in the cube is 126 ° C. Analogously to example 1, the content of hydrofluoric acid in the diet was changed in order to evaluate the effect of the A1 / F ratio on the purification of nitric acid (modes 4-5 of the table).
Comparing modes 1-2 and 4-5, it can be seen that in the case of a concentration of nitric acid in the diet of 6 mol / L, the removal of hydrofluoric acid is reduced compared to 3 mol / L of nitric acid. This can be explained by a lower acid deficiency of the bottom solution, despite an increase in the concentration of aluminum nitrate.
20000.Example 4. The process is carried out in an apparatus equipped with 8 plates. The feed solution is 3 mol / L nitric acid containing 1 g / L hydrofluoric acid. A solution of aluminum nitrate in 3 mol / L nitric acid is introduced onto the upper plate as a reflux at a concentration of 18 g / L A1. Phlegm flowing over the plates is concentrated in a cube, where the A1 content is maintained at 130 g / l. The bottoms solution (melt) contains 8.2 g / l of hydrofluoric acid; however, the molar ratio A1 / F does not exceed 9. Nitric acid with a low content of hydrofluoric acid, distilled from the cube and purified in it, passes through the plates irrigated with a solution of aluminum nitrate. Here, nitric acid is refined at A1 / F molar ratios significantly higher than 1000. The content of hydrofluoric acid in the distillate — purified nitric acid — is 0.03 mg / l, which corresponds to a nitric acid purification coefficient of 20,000.
