Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of analytical chemistry of elements, and in particular to methods for the determination of osmium (VIII), and can be used in the determination of osmium in sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid technological solutions.
To determine osmium in objects of various material composition, a simple, hardware-based, fairly sensitive and selective photometric method is used.
- добавление реагента к анализируемому раствору;
- добавление NaOH до pH≥11;
- перемешивание;
- подкисление пробы до рН≤1;
- экстракция хлороформом образующегося окрашенного соединения;
A known method for determining 30-150 μg of osmium in 50 ml of an organic extract using N'-benzyloyl-N- (4-tolylsulfonyl) hydrazine (Vorobyeva N.E., Pavlov P.T., Zhivopisetov V.P. N'-benzyloyl -N- (sulfonyl) hydrazines - effective reagents for osmium. Journal of Analytical Chemistry. 1991. T. 46. 6. S. 1088-1092). The method involves performing a series of sequential operations:
- adding a reagent to the analyzed solution;
- adding NaOH to pH≥11;
- mixing;
- acidification of the sample to pH≤1;
- chloroform extraction of the resulting colored compound;
- photometry of the extract.
The disadvantages of the method include multistage, the ability to analyze only alkaline solutions containing osmium (VI), the low reproducibility of the determination and a narrow range of detectable concentrations.
Closest to the proposed method by technical nature and the achieved results is a method for determining osmium (VIII) (RF Patent 2112237 Method for determining osmium (VIII) in sulfate solutions / Bakhvalova IP, Bakhtina MP, Losev VN) including acidification of the analyzed solution with sulfuric acid to a concentration of 0.5-2 mol / l, adding silica chemically modified with N-allyl-N'-propylthiourea to the sorbent solution, shaking for 15 minutes, separating the sorbent from the solution, transferring it to fluoroplastic cell and measurement e coefficient of diffuse reflection of the sorbent. The method allows the selection and determination of osmium (VIII) in an amount of 10-1800 μg / 0.1 g of sorbent. The sorption time is 15 minutes.
The technical result is to reduce the relative detection limit.
The specified technical result is achieved by the fact that in the test solution with an acidity in the range of 4 M H 2 SO 4 or 6 M Hcl to pH 4 containing osmium (VIII), a sorbent is added - silica gel, chemically modified by mercapto groups, intensively mixed for 5 minutes , the solutions are decanted, the sorbent is washed with distilled water, transferred to a fluoroplastic cuvette and the diffuse reflection coefficient is measured at 440 nm.
The essence of the method lies in the fact that being in a solution of osmium in a wide range of acidity (4 M H 2 SO 4 (6 M Hcl) - pH 4) is quantitatively extracted with silica gel, chemically modified mercapto groups. The interaction of osmium (VIII) with functional groups leads to its reduction and the formation on the surface of yellow-orange colored complex compounds of osmium (III) with mercapto groups covalently attached to the surface of silica gel.
Sorption in the static mode proceeds quickly - the time to establish sorption equilibrium is 2-3 minutes, and quantitatively (distribution coefficient reaches 1 • 10 5 cm 3 / g), which allows you to concentrate and completely remove osmium (VIII) even from very dilute solutions in dynamic mode. The detection limit of osmium with a weighed sorbent of 0.1 g is 0.3 μg. The relative detection limit of osmium when using 10 ml is 0.03 μg / ml.
In the proposed method, the osmium content in an arbitrary volume of the solution should not be less than 0.3 μg. This amount of osmium per 0.1 g of sorbent is the minimum concentration that can be recorded on existing devices relative to the background signal. The calibration graph is linear in the range of 0.3-400 μg osmium per 0.1 g of sorbent. Moreover, when using 100 ml of the solution, the relative detection limit of osmium is 3 • 10 -3 μg / ml, when using 1 l of the solution, the relative detection limit is 3 • 10 -4 μg / ml.
For a better understanding of the method, the following examples are provided.

Example 2 (the proposed method). To a solution containing osmium in an amount of 1.0 μg in 10 ml, add 0.1 g of a sorbent - silica gel chemically modified by mercapto groups, mix for 5 minutes, decant the solution, transfer the sorbent to a cuvette and measure the diffuse reflectance. The amount of osmium is found by the calibration graph. Found 1.0 ± 0.2 μg.
Example 3 (the proposed method). To a solution containing osmium in an amount of 100 μg in 10 ml, add 0.1 g of a sorbent - silica gel chemically modified by mercapto groups, mix for 5 minutes, decant the solution, transfer the sorbent to a cuvette and measure the diffuse reflectance at 440 nm. The amount of osmium is found by the calibration graph. Found 100 ± 3 μg.
0,45±0,05. Example 4 (the proposed method). 1 l of a solution containing 0.5 μg of osmium is passed through a chromatographic column containing 0.1 g of sorbent at a rate of 1 ml / min, washed with water, the sorbent is removed from the column, transferred to a cuvette and the diffuse reflection coefficient is measured. The amount of osmium is found by the calibration graph. Found 0.45 ± 0.05.
Thus, the proposed method allows to determine osmium in the amount of 0.3-400 μg when using 0.1 g of sorbent. In addition, the method is characterized by ease of implementation. Simplification is carried out by eliminating the operations of creating the necessary acidity of the solution, adding any reagents and other preparatory operations. The resulting sorbents are stable for a long time without changing their spectroscopic characteristics.
