Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a technology for the processing of radioactive waste, in particular waste of ion exchange resins (IOS).
A known method of processing radioactive IOS, including mixing them with water and a mineral binder (cement) and subsequent curing of the mixture to obtain strong (more than 5 MPa) blocks [1]. The disadvantage of this method is the inability to obtain durable cured products with a degree of filling of more than 10 wt.% (Dry IOS) and high leachability of radionuclides (10 -2 - 10 -3 cm / day.)
The closest analogue of the claimed technical solution is a method of processing radioactive IOS by mixing with an organic binder (bitumen) at 140 - 150 o C to obtain plastic bitumen compounds [2]. This method according to the technical nature and the achieved effect is closest to the described invention.
) приводят лишь к сокращению доли ИОС в битумном блоке при суммарной степени наполнения по отходам не более 50 мас.%.The disadvantage of this method is the relatively high leachability of radionuclides (10 -4 - 10 -5 cm / day.) And the inability to include in bitumen more than 40 - 50 wt.% IOS (dry IOS). When you turn on more than 50 wt.% IOS, the resulting mass swells. Attempts to jointly bitrate the IOS with other radioactive waste (bottoms, filter perlite, etc.) lead only to a decrease in the share of IOS in the bitumen block with a total waste filling of not more than 50 wt.%.
The problem solved by this invention is to increase the degree of filling of the cured products according to IOS and to reduce the leachability of radionuclides from them.
The essence of the invention lies in the fact that in the method of processing radioactive IOS, including mixing with an organic binder, heating and subsequent gradual cooling, crushed radioactive waste of polyvinyl chloride materials (PVC) is used as a binder, which is mixed with a pre-dehydrated IOS or a mixture of various IOS, the resulting waste mixture is heated to a temperature of 140 - 150 o C, placed in covers made of polyvinyl chloride material, not contaminated with radionuclides, and pressed to form a float avlennogo monolith. A mixture of PVC and IOS can be heated to 140 - 150 o C also in the process of mixing waste PVC and IOS. IOS is mixed with PVC in a weight ratio of (60 - 70): (40 - 30). The mixture of IOS and PVC, loaded into PVC cases, is pressed at a temperature of 140 - 150 ° C with a pressure of 3 to 4 MPa for 15 to 25 minutes until a molten monolith is formed, then the resulting monolith is forcedly cooled to 20 at the same pressure - 30 o C for 3.0 to 3.5 hours
80). Waste of polyvinyl chloride materials was chosen as a binder, since these materials are usually widely used to cover the floors of the premises of the nuclear power complex enterprises (grade 57-40 plastic compound) and the manufacture of film personal protective equipment (plastic compound rec. 80).
, что не следует явным образом из уровня техники (температура плавления ПВХ ≈ 190 - 230oC).Compared with the known methods of processing IOS, the use of PVC as a binder and pressing at 140 - 150 o C in polyvinyl chloride covers with a pressure of 3 - 4 MPa provides in cured products a degree of filling on dry IOS of up to 60 - 70 wt.% And the leachability of radionuclides at 1 • 10 -7 cm / day. that does not follow explicitly from the prior art (the melting point of PVC ≈ 190 - 230 o C).
The method is as follows.
Также наличие чехла позволяет увеличить содержание ИОС в смеси отходов до 60 - 70 мас.% против 40 - 50 мас.% при способе-прототипе, так как чехол защищает смесь от контакта с водой, который приводит к вспучиванию и растрескиванию битумных блоков при содержании ИОС более 40 - 50 мас.%.Radioactive IOSs are preliminarily dehydrated and mixed with radioactive polyvinyl chloride wastes (plastic compound grade 57-40, personal protective equipment, etc.), crushed to IOS granules of 0.3-0.5 mm. After uniform heating of the mixture to 140 - 150 o C, it is loaded into the covers from "clean" not contaminated with radionuclides, plastic compound grade 57-40 2-3 mm thick and subjected to pressing at 140 - 150 o C at a pressure of 3-4 MPa for 15 - 25 min, which ensures fusion of the mixture into a monolithic block. Then the unit is forced to cool for 3.0 - 3.5 hours to 20 - 30 o C under pressure to avoid cracking or swelling. The rate of leaching of radionuclides from cured products is about 1 • 10 -7 cm / day. The use of a PVC cover that is not contaminated with radionuclides and into which radioactive wastes of IOS and PVC are poured allows isolating the mixture of waste contaminated with radionuclides from the environment after pressing and thereby achieve very low leaching rates. In addition, the use of the same PVC material as a cover, which is in the waste mixture, allows to achieve solidity not only inside the unit, but also at the cover - waste boundary. Also, the presence of the cover allows you to increase the content of IOS in the waste mixture up to 60 - 70 wt.% Against 40 - 50 wt.% With the prototype method, since the cover protects the mixture from contact with water, which leads to expansion and cracking of bitumen blocks when the content of IOS more than 40 to 50 wt.%.
Example 1. Mixed IOS (50% KU-2-8 hours and 50% AB-17-8 hours) are dehydrated (to a moisture content of less than 1%) and mixed with waste grade 57-40 PVC compound, crushed to 0.3-0 , 5 mm at a ratio of 60: 40, and heated to 140 o C. The heated mixture is loaded into a plastic cup of grade 57-40 plastic compound with a thickness of 3 mm, covered with a plastic circle of the same thickness and pressed at 140 o C with a pressure of 4 MPa for 25 minutes Then, at the same pressure, forced cooling is carried out under the same pressure to 20 ° C. for 3 hours. As a result, blocks of fused polyvinyl chloride plastic compound, which is a frame with IOS granules in their cells, are obtained. The blocks, in addition, are in a continuous cover made of “clean” plastic compound of grade 57-40, 3 mm thick. The leachability of radionuclides is ≈ 1 • 10 -7 cm / day.
Examples 2 to 7. Differ from example 1 in the ratio of components and process parameters (see table).
Example 8. It differs from example 1 in that the mixture is pressed without using plastic covers. The test results are shown in the table.
From the above data it follows that the processing of IOS at a temperature of 140 - 150 o C and a pressure of 3 - 4 MPa (examples 1, 2, 3, 5) ensures the fusion of ground PVC waste into a monolithic frame, in the cells of which there are granules of IOS. At a temperature below 140 o C (example 6), the block does not melt, and above 150 o C (example 7) there is a copious release of HCl and partial carbonization (thermal degradation) of the outer shell, which increases the leachability of radionuclides. If a decrease in the fraction of IOS below 60 wt.% (Example 5) allows maintaining high block quality, but no longer gives an advantage over bitumen in terms of filling, then with a fraction of IOS more than 70 wt.% (Example 4), a monolith is not formed due to a lack binder, which is PVC. Processing IOS without the use of PVC covers (example 8) leads not only to a sharp increase in leachability, but also to expansion and even cracking of the blocks during storage.
Thus, pressing a mixture of waste PVC and IOS containing up to 60 - 70 wt. % IOS, in plastic cases at 140 - 150 o C with a pressure of 3 - 4 MPa is necessary and sufficient to achieve the task. The positive effect of the use of the proposed method compared with bitumen is to reduce the leachability of radionuclides by 2 to 3 orders of magnitude and increase the degree of filling of cured products by IOS up to 60 - 70 wt. % The total content of radioactive waste (IOS and PVC waste) exceeds 90 wt.%
This method can be carried out using industrial presses, and covers can be made from industrial grades of plastic compounds (for example, grades 57-40), i.e. is industrially applicable.
