The closest in technical essence to the proposed solution, taken as a prototype, is a gas sensor [Patent BY U No. 10187, Republic of Belarus. Adsorption-resistive gas sensor / Authors: Muhurov N.I., Denisyuk S.V., Kudanovich O.N. The disadvantage of the device is the process of detecting gases at a high operating temperature of the gas sensor, which affects the selectivity of the sensitive element, which accordingly leads to increased energy consumption and, accordingly, the high cost of operation.
The objective (technical result) of the proposed utility model is to reduce energy consumption for detection while maintaining high selectivity of the sensitive element.
The task is achieved by the fact that the chemoresistive gas sensor consists of a silicon substrate, the surface of which is oxidized to silicon dioxide, while a sensitive element is deposited on the surface of the substrate, which is carbon nanotubes, at both ends of which a layer of nichrome is deposited, on the surface of which gold contacts are deposited, and a heating element attached on the reverse side of the substrate.
5.The drawing shows a chemoresistive gas sensor, which consists of a
Chemoresistive gas sensor works as follows.
The working zone of a chemoresistive gas sensor, consisting of a silicon substrate (1), the surface of which is oxidized to silicon dioxide SiO 2 , is supplied with air containing detectable impurities of various gases (hydrocarbon gases, ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, etc.), while on the substrate (1) a sensitive element (2) is applied, which is a layer of carbon nanotubes grown on a substrate (1) by the method of gas-phase deposition on a catalyst, at both ends of which a layer of nichrome is deposited by vacuum thermal evaporation of a nichrome wire (3), on the surface of which gold contacts (4) 325 nm thick. The nichrome layer improves the adhesion of the substrate, sensing element and gold contacts. Next, the detected gas impurity in the air flow contacts the sensitive element (2), where the detected gas impurity is adsorbed on the surface of the sensitive element. As a result of the adsorption process, the resistance of the sensing element changes in proportion to the concentration of gas impurities in the air and is detected by a measuring device - an ohmmeter (not shown in the drawing), which gives a signal understandable to the user (numerical value, light or sound indication). The analytical signal A from the sensing element (2) is defined as the ratio of its resistance in the detected admixture of gases to the resistance of the base signal A=R impurity /R base . Using the concentration dependences of the sensitivity A= f (C) of the adsorption gas sensor and measurement data, the concentrations of the detected gas in the analyzed air flow are determined. The sensitivity of the adsorption gas sensor can reach up to 1 ppm depending on the type of gas. Further, the air with the remnants of the detected admixture of gases, after contact with the sensitive element, is removed into the atmosphere. As the surface of the sensitive element becomes saturated with the detected gas impurities, the susceptibility and selectivity of the sensitive element to the detected gas impurities decreases. To remove adsorbed gas impurities from the surface of the sensitive element, a heating element (5) is used, fixed in a zigzag pattern on the reverse side of the substrate (1), representing a copper wire with a diameter of 0.05 mm, connected to a current source (not shown in the drawing). As necessary, current is supplied to the heating element (5) using a current source and the temperature of the heating element is brought to 150°C, while the process of desorption of the detected gas impurities from the surface of the sensitive element occurs and, accordingly, the regeneration and restoration of the susceptibility and selectivity of the sensitive element to the detected gas impurities.
The main advantage of carbon nanotubes is that they allow gas sensors to operate at room temperature, unlike industrial semiconductor materials that require constant heating up to 300°C and higher during operation, while gas sensors based on carbon nanotubes are compact, which makes it possible to create portable devices with higher selectivity for the gases to be detected.
The carbon material in the sensor plays the role of an active material, the electrical resistance of which changes upon contact with detectable gas impurities in the air. The gas is adsorbed on the surface of the material and increases or decreases the concentration of charge carriers (depending on the nature of the gas). If the number of carriers increases, then the resistance decreases, and vice versa. The change in the electrical resistance of the layer of carbon material is proportional to the concentration of gas in the air.
Thus, the proposed chemoresistive gas sensor, due to the use of carbon nanotubes operating at room temperature as a sensitive element, makes it possible to reduce energy consumption for detection while maintaining high selectivity of the sensitive element.
