Abstract
Description
The invention relates to the field of electrical engineering and can be used in the manufacture of electrodes of alkaline batteries.
Most of the used electrodes of alkaline batteries, in addition to lamella, use porous conductive substrates, on which the active mass of the electrode is applied [1] Technical characteristics of the substrate (thickness, porosity, pore size, etc.) largely determine the electrical characteristics of the electrodes, since the characteristics of the substrate depends on the active surface area, thickness and resistance of the electrode.
Known porous electrode base of a nickel-cadmium battery made of carbonyl nickel powder pressed onto a metal mesh [1]
The disadvantage of this base is its large thickness (1 2 mm), which reduces the specific characteristics of the electrodes on this basis.
A known method of manufacturing a metal mesh and subsequent pressing of Nickel powder on a metal mesh and subsequent sintering in a hydrogen atmosphere [1]
The disadvantage of the above method is the complexity of the technology and low productivity, which negatively affects the cost of the base.
Of the known bases of an alkaline battery electrode, the closest set of essential features is a base made of narrow fraction nickel powder by pressing and sintering [2]
The disadvantage of the above framework is its significant thickness and low flexibility, which limits the scope of its application.
Of the known methods for manufacturing the fundamentals of the electrode, the closest in combination of essential features is a manufacturing method in which the base is made by rolling a metal powder in rolls using an active lubricant and subsequent sintering in a reducing atmosphere [3]
However, this method does not allow to obtain a thin base with a given porosity. With an increase in the preload force of the rolls to obtain the required thickness (30 80 μm), the porosity of the plate drops to 20 30%
The objective of the invention is to create the basis of the electrode having a small thickness for a given porosity, sufficient mechanical strength and flexibility, and a method for its manufacture.
The specified technical result is achieved by the fact that for the known basis of the alkaline battery electrode made of porous metal, porous nickel foil 20 75 μm thick, porosity 30-60% and pore size 0.1 10 μm is taken as porous metal.
As for the manufacturing method, the result is achieved in that in the known method for manufacturing the base of an alkaline battery electrode, comprising rolling nickel powder using an active lubricant and subsequent sintering in a reducing atmosphere, an organic solvent is introduced into the lubricant and the rolls are coated before rolling the resulting mixture. As the active lubricant, for example, oleic acid is used, and an organic solvent is, for example, acetone.
The use of porous nickel foil with a thickness of 20 to 75 μm, porosity of 30 to 60% and a pore size of 0.1 to 10 μm as a porous base metal allows to obtain thin flexible high-activity electrodes with high specific electrical characteristics.
Reducing the thickness of the base below 20 μm is impractical because it will have insufficient mechanical strength. An increase in the thickness of the base of more than 75 μm reduces the specific characteristics of the electrodes using this base.
The value of the porosity of the base determines the active surface of the electrode when it is activated. At a porosity below 30%, the electrical characteristics of the electrodes decrease; at a porosity above 60%, the base has low mechanical strength.
The pore size of the base determines the amount of active mass introduced and the internal resistance of the electrode.
When the pore size is less than 0.1 μm, it is difficult to introduce an active substance into them and the electrode will have an increased polarization due to the difficulty of access of the electrolyte to the electrode body.
With a pore size of more than 10 μm, the base has an increased ohmic resistance and reduced mechanical strength.
It is advisable to use oleic acid as the active lubricant for rolling the base of the electrode, and acetone as the organic solvent.
The use of an active lubricant during rolling of metal powder reduces the coefficient of external friction at the powder-roll contact, the angle of capture of the powder, and the angle of internal friction between the powder particles. Reducing the coefficient of external friction and the angle of capture of the powder allows to reduce the thickness of the rolled strip, and reducing the angle of internal friction increases the density of the tape and reduces porosity. To increase porosity, it is necessary to reduce the force on the crimping rolls, but the thickness of the rolled strip increases.
The introduction of a solvent into the lubricant makes it possible to maintain a small angle of capture of the powder, but at the same time, a sufficiently large angle of internal friction is maintained, which makes it possible to obtain a thin tape with high porosity and strength.
Using a mixture of an active lubricant and a solvent during powder rolling, it is possible to significantly reduce the force on the crimp rolls and maintain the high porosity of the powder in the rolled strip.

600oC.Example. PNK-16 brand carbonyl nickel powder, previously annealed in vacuum (1 10 mm Hg) for 3 hours at a temperature of 250 o C, was supplied to the UD 2200 rolling mill. Rolling yielded 100x100 mm ribbons in dry rolls and in rolls lubricated with a mixture of oleic acid and acetone in a ratio of 1: 2. Rolling strip sintered in a hydrogen atmosphere in a continuous furnace at a temperature of 600 o C.
In dry rolls, a 60 μm thick tape had a porosity of 24% with a pore size of 0.9 μm.
When rolling in lubricating rolls, the tape at a thickness of 40 μm had a porosity of 45% with a pore size of ≈ 1.5 μm. By changing the dispersion of the starting nickel powder, one can vary the porosity and pore size of the base.
