Description

The invention relates to powder metallurgy, in particular to methods for processing billets of hard alloys based on transition metal carbides, as well as “pure” transition metal carbides.

A known method of processing hard alloys, including heating the workpiece to a temperature of high ductility (superplasticity) of the metal of the binder and subsequent deformation.

The disadvantages of the method include the impossibility of its implementation when deforming blanks of "pure" carbides, as well as when the binder content is less than 10% by volume. In addition, only the metal phase undergoes deformation, and the size and shape of the grains of the carbide phase do not change.

The aim of the invention is to reduce the grain size of the carbide phase and increase due to this high-temperature ductility.

This goal is achieved by the fact that in the method of processing workpieces of hard alloys and carbides of transition metals, including heating and deformation of the workpieces, in contrast to the known deformation of the workpiece is carried out in several stages with a degree of deformation of at least 20% at each stage, while reducing the temperature of the workpiece after each stage at 10-100 ° C, at a total decrease of temperature in the process of deformation of not less than 0.42 of the melting temperature of the carbide phase in the material, wherein, since the temperature of the temperature mp 0.56 pressure of the carbide phase, the deformation rate is 0.1-50 mm / min.

It is recommended that after each stage of deformation, the workpiece is edged.

Температура плавления карбида данного состава составляла 1645оС (согласно диаграмме состояния).A blank of titanium carbide of non-stoichiometric composition with a chemical composition of TiC 0.5 was processed. The grain size in the workpiece material was 12 μm. The blank was in the form of a cube with side dimensions of 50 mm. The melting point of carbide of this composition was 1645 about C (according to the state diagram).

The preform was heated and deformed in a hydraulic press under various temperature and speed conditions. The experimental results are summarized in table.
