Abstract

A machine for removing the bark from logs or tree branches, being especially applicable to pieces with a high degree of curvature and from which it is difficult to remove the bark, the most typical case of its application being that of the extraction of cork bark from branches pruned or cut from Hispania oaks (Quercus hispanica), which comprises a support structure which supports and connects the right and left uprights 1, 2, connected in parallel and fastened together, a first fixed lower roll 3, mounted in respective bearings (bushings) 4, 5, a screen (shield), a second oscillating upper roll 7, a support 8 for suspension of the upper roll 7, a support 9 for suspension of the said support 8, a helical spring 10 accommodated between the said supports 8 and 9, a hydraulic cylinder 12 connected to the said support 9 and mounted in the upper part of the said support structure, two tensioning assemblies 14, 15, which include the counterweights 19 for equilibrium of the said upper roll 7, two gear motors 27, 28 for actuating, respectively, the said first and second rolls 3, 7, in which the horizontal axes of rotation of the said rolls 3, 7 lie in non-parallel different planes and in which the control of the said upper roll 7 is achieved through the action either of the said hydraulic cylinder 12 or of the helical spring 10, in such a manner that the said upper roll 7 at all times adapts to the irregularities of the pieces 29 from which the bark is to be removed.
