Opis wynalazkuDescription of the invention
The subject of the invention is a method of producing carbon nanotubes, which are widely used in modern electronics in various electrical energy storage devices, as a capacitive material in capacitors and batteries, photovoltaic devices, fuel cells and the like.
Nadaje to nanorurkom zdolność do selektywnego oddziaływania z atomami i cząsteczkami np. w fazie gazowej lub ciekłej (zastosowanie jako materiał receptorowy w czujnikach chemicznych oraz jako nośniki leków).Carbon nanotubes are a specific allotropic form of carbon with unique physical and chemical properties. The unique physical properties include, above all, high electrical conductivity and the ability to absorb / emit electromagnetic radiation. Another physical property with high application potential are the adsorption properties understood as the ability to reversibly bind atoms / molecules both on the external surfaces of nanotubes, inside the nanotubes (after opening them with chemical or physical methods) or in the spaces between parallel nanotubes (so-called nanotube forests). The adsorption capacity can be modified in a wide range by chemical methods by introducing heteroatoms and functional groups. This gives nanotubes the ability to selectively interact with atoms and molecules, e.g. in the gas or liquid phase (application as a receptor material in chemical sensors and as drug carriers).
Znane są trzy podstawowe metody syntezy nanorurek węglowych: metoda CVD (Chemical Vapour Deposition - głównie do syntezy rurek jedno- i dwuściennych SWCNTs i DWCNTs), metoda łuku elektrycznego - (Arc Discharge - głównie do syntezy krótkich rurek wielościennych MWCNT z dużą ilością złomu węglowego) oraz metoda ablacji laserowej (Laser Ablation - głównie do syntezy rurek wielościennych z dużą ilością złomu węglowego). There are three basic methods for the synthesis of carbon nanotubes: the CVD method (Chemical Vapor Deposition - mainly for the synthesis of single- and double-walled tubes SWCNTs and DWCNTs), the electric arc method - (Arc Discharge - mainly for the synthesis of short multi-wall MWCNT tubes with a large amount of carbon scrap) and the method of laser ablation (Laser Ablation - mainly for the synthesis of polyhedral tubes with a large amount of carbon scrap). Numerous modifications of the above-mentioned main methods do not change the essence of these methods and do not constitute a significant breakthrough in the synthesis of carbon nanotubes. All these methods use the phenomenon of the formation of radical forms of carbon atoms in the gas phase under the influence of high temperature existing in CVD equipment, in an electric arc or at a point exposed to a laser beam. The resulting carbon radicals recombine, resulting in carbon nanotubes deposited on a properly prepared substrate. The essence of the methods used so far uses the transition of the raw material, radicals, from the gas phase to the solid phase, i.e. carbon nanotubes. The vapor deposition process is characterized by the formation of byproducts, i.e., disadvantageous products known as carbon scrap mainly composed of amorphous carbon.
The description of the publication of the international application WO2013119295A1 describes a method of producing carbon nanotubes on a graphene layer using a metal catalyst by heating at a temperature of 500 ° C to 1100 ° C, and carbon nanotubes are covalently connected to the graphene layer through carbon-carbon bonds, the source of which is carbon to make carbon nanotubes is at least one of alkanes, alkenes, alkylenes, alkynes, polymers, carbon oxides, and combinations thereof.
Celem wynalazku jest opracowanie wydajnego ekonomicznie sposobu syntezy nanorurek węglowych o niskim zanieczyszczeniu złomem węglowym. The aim of the invention is to develop an economically efficient method of synthesizing carbon nanotubes with low carbon scrap contamination.
The method of producing carbon nanotubes on the surface of carbon material, according to the invention, consists in producing a polymer on the surface of activated carbon or graphene in the polymerization process of furfuryl alcohol, in which the carbon material is saturated with a mixture of furfuryl alcohol and phosphoric acid (V) (volume ratio 4.5: 1) and subjected to heat treatment for 2 hours at 100 ° C. The polymer coated carbon material is then annealed for 20 minutes at 800 ° C under a protective nitrogen or argon atmosphere.
Korzystnie dla podłoża grafenowego, miesza się je przed pokryciem polimerem z CaCO3 w stosunku wagowym 1:1.Preferably for the graphene substrate, they are mixed with CaCO3 in a 1: 1 weight ratio prior to polymer coating.
W wyniku wygrzewania zachodzi termiczna konwersja polimeru do nanorurek węglowych, głównie wielościennych o średnicach do 20 nm. Zastosowanie sposobu według wynalazku prowadzi do hybrydowych materiałów węglowych łączących w sobie dwie formy węgla, np. podłoże grafenowe i nanorurki pokrywające to podłoże lub tradycyjny węgiel aktywny pokryty nanorurkami węglowymi. Pozwala to łączyć pozytywne cechy obu rodzajów materiałów węglowych np. wysokie przewodnictwo elektryczne podłoża grafenowego i specyficzne właściwości adsorpcyjne nanorurek węglowych. As a result of annealing, thermal conversion of the polymer to carbon nanotubes, mainly multi-walled, with diameters up to 20 nm takes place. The result is a "forest" of parallel growing carbon nanotubes attached to the original carbon substrate with a length of 1-5 µm, with no carbon scrap formation. Generally, the diameters of the resulting carbon nanotubes are equal to or greater than 10 nm. The use of the method according to the invention leads to hybrid carbon materials combining two forms of carbon, e.g. graphene substrate and nanotubes covering this substrate or traditional activated carbon covered with carbon nanotubes. This allows to combine the positive features of both types of carbon materials, e.g. high electrical conductivity of graphene substrate and specific adsorption properties of carbon nanotubes.
