Description
The subject of the invention is a composite material with a matrix of cast aluminum alloys and a method of its production, applicable especially in the aviation and automotive industries.
Zagadnienie to przedstawione jest m.in. w opisach CN1483845 (A), CN101734935 (A), IT1226511 (B).Composite materials with a light metal matrix, produced by infiltration of porous ceramics based on mullite, thanks to their good mechanical properties and relatively low density, are widely used in many industries. This issue is presented i.a. in CN1483845 (A), CN101734935 (A), IT1226511 (B).
It has surprisingly been found that the reinforcement of the composite materials can be a mullite-based ceramic skeleton made by sintering halloysite nanotubes. Nanotubes obtained from halloysite, which is a clay mineral of volcanic origin from the kaolinite group, which is characterized by high porosity and a large specific surface, due to its dimensions, will allow to obtain a nanostructured composite material.
Materiał kompozytowy według wynalazku charakteryzuje się tym, że zawiera fazę wzmacniającą w postaci nanometrycznego mulitu powstałego w wyniku spiekania nanorurek haloizytowych w udziale objętościowym, korzystnie w zakresie od 20-50%.The composite material according to the invention is characterized in that it contains a reinforcing phase in the form of nano-sized mullite resulting from sintering of halloysite nanotubes in a volume fraction, preferably in the range from 20-50%.
Sposób według wynalazku polega na tym, że proszek zawierający nanorurki haloizytowe poddaje się mechanicznemu mieszaniu w młynie kulowym w zawiesinie alkoholu, a następnie prasowaniu korzystnie pod ciśnieniem z zakresu od 50 do 140 MPa i spiekaniu korzystnie w temperaturze z zakresu 1300-1700°C, po czym tak otrzymany porowaty szkielet mulitowy infiltruje się ciśnieniowo odlewniczym stopem aluminium korzystnie w temperaturze z zakresu od 600 do 800°C pod ciśnieniem od 60 do 100 MPa.The method according to the invention consists in that the powder containing halloysite nanotubes is subjected to mechanical mixing in a ball mill in an alcohol suspension, and then pressing, preferably under a pressure in the range of 50 to 140 MPa, and sintering preferably at a temperature in the range of 1300-1700 ° C, after the thus obtained porous mullite skeleton is infiltrated by pressure with the casting aluminum alloy, preferably at a temperature ranging from 600 to 800 ° C under a pressure of 60 to 100 MPa.
Następnie tak otrzymany porowaty szkielet mulitowy infiltruje się ciśnieniowo odlewniczym stopem aluminium korzystnie w temperaturze z zakresu od 600 do 800°C pod ciśnieniem od 60 do 100 MPa.In another solution, the method according to the invention consists in that the powder containing halloysite nanotubes and carbon fibers added to increase the porosity is subjected to mechanical mixing in a ball mill in an alcohol suspension, and then the powder mixture prepared in this way is pressed under a pressure in the range of 100 to 300 MPa and sintered, preferably at a temperature in the range of 1300-1700 ° C, with an isothermal stop at a temperature in the range of 750-850 ° C upon heating, allowing the full degradation of the carbon fibers, thereby increasing the porosity. The thus obtained porous mullite skeleton is then pressure infiltrated with the aluminum casting alloy, preferably at a temperature ranging from 600 to 800 ° C and a pressure of 60 to 100 MPa.
The proposed composite material according to the invention is characterized by the ability to accurately reproduce the shape, which is in line with the latest trends in the development of technology for the production of ready-made elements or elements requiring only finishing, i.e. near net shape. This composite is characterized by local or full-body reinforcement phases and a high surface quality. These materials can be widely used for blocks and pistons of combustion engines, combustion chambers and piston rings.
