Abstract

The invention provides a highly workable high-strength steel sheet for cans which has an upper yield strength of 450 to 600 MPa and a total elongation of not less than 13 pcnt as measured after baking finish and also exhibits good corrosion resistance even against highly corrosive contents, and a method for manufacturing such steel sheets. The highly workable high-strength steel sheet for cans has a chemical composition including, in mass pcnt , C: more than 0.020 pcnt and not more than 0.130 pcnt , Si: not more than 0.04 pcnt , Mn: 0.10 to 1.20 pcnt , P: not more than 0.100 pcnt , S: not more than 0.030 pcnt , AI: not more than 0.10 pcnt , N: more than 0.0120 pcnt and not more than 0.020 pcnt and Nb: 0.004 to 0.040 pcnt , the balance being iron and inevitable impurities, and has precipitated Nb/total Nb = 0.30 wherein precipitated Nb is the amount of precipitated Nb and total Nb is the total amount of Nb, an average Nb precipitate grain size of not more than 20 nm, an average ferrite crystal grain size of not more than 7.0 æm, and, as measured after baking finish treatment, an upper yield strength of 450 to 630 MPa and a total elongation of not less than 13 pcnt .
