Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to marking agents, particularly for use in connection with explosives, which with the help of microanalytical methods allow an identification of the substance used with regard to origin, composition and possibly also date of manufacture. Furthermore, the invention includes methods for the production of such marking agents and their use, particularly when marking explosives. Increasing theft and the impermissible use of explosives has led to the need to be able to demonstrate precisely the origin, type and possibly also the date of manufacture of explosives. This need has already resulted in legal provisions such as in the order regarding explosive substances, issued by the "Schweizer Bundesrat" on 26 March 1980, which states in art.5, sentence 3 the following: "The explosive must contain a marking substance of such a nature that its origin can be proven beyond doubt even after the explosion. The flaring substance must be approved by the "Zentralstelle" which again takes account of changes in conditions".
For tiden markedsføres kun ett slikt markeringsmiddel. Currently, only one such marker is marketed. It is a product from the company 3 M. The product consists of a laminate with 9 layers of melamine resin. In these 9 layers of melamine resin, various materials such as fluorescent pigment, dyes and magnetic material have been processed. It is likely that foils or plates are first produced which are then crushed and painted. A product of this kind is described, for example, in US patent 4,053,433.
From US patent 3 772 200 as well as the corresponding B.R.D. patent 2 343 774 it is known that one mixes four different, mostly rare elements, predominantly in the form of their oxides, melts them in a muffle furnace to a glassmas.se and then produces microglass spheres from this mixture melt using usual methods. These products can indeed withstand the explosive explosion, but it is very difficult to track them down and separate them from the explosion waste.
US patent 3,897,284 and states that a non-sticky organic substance with a melting point must be used
ved over 60°C istedetfor glass. This improvement is particularly to be seen in that the products produced in this way are more compatible with explosives and are not inclined to increase their sensitivity as is the case with the small glass balls. As non-sticky organic substances, extremely low molecular weight polyethylenes, paraffin waxes or epoxy resins were exclusively used in the examples, because it is only with these that it is possible to achieve, after embedding metal oxides, the production of this mixture into a powder that must be prepared . In all examples this was achieved by spray drying, but spray drying is only possible with organic substances which at given temperatures have an extremely low viscosity. The products obtained in this way were obviously not usable in practice and did not lead to salable products.
From US patents 4 131 064 and 4 197 104 other marking agents are known which are worked up into particles with the help of a calcium silica binder and which are possibly also encapsulated with a thin polyethylene layer. In addition, it was tried, by adding different ferr.iters, to arrive at products with different Curie points. These products have also obviously had a negative influence on the stability and storage capacity of the explosives. Furthermore, it appears that coding, due to the varying degrees of temperature influence during the explosion, has been more or less strongly changed, so that there was no longer an unambiguous decoding. possible. From US patent documents 3 961 T06, 3 967 990 and 3 993 838 it is known that the marking agents described above are coated with a thin layer of low molecular weight polyethylene or wax to increase their compatibility with the explosive.
[Ten also products of this type have so far obviously not been able to satisfy all requirements from practical use.
Et for alle krav godkjent markeringsmiddel må tilfredsstille følgende betingelser: a) Harkeringsmidlet må i årevis forbli uforandret i sprengstoffet. A marking agent approved for all requirements must satisfy the following conditions: a) The marking agent must remain unchanged in the explosive for years. The previously described product from company 3 ri partly satisfies the requirements, but due to its complicated manufacturing method, however, increases the price of the explosive to a not inconsiderable degree.
The invention has set itself the task of providing a marker which satisfies all the above-mentioned requirements for a marker for explosives.
To great surprise, it was found that high molecular weight plastics with low water absorption capacity, high specific heat, low thermal conductivity and low specific weight, especially from the group from the polyethylenes, polypropylenes, polyamides, polycarbonates, polyesters, polyoxymethylenes or acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene -the copolymers are suitable to be processed thermoplastically, to take up a) at least 1% by weight of iron powder and/or powder of ferromagnetic alloys as well as at least 2 of the following substance groups,

Such plastics with ingredients cannot be pulverized by spray drying, but can be

Markeringsmidlets par-tikkelstørrelse etter maling bør fortrinnsvis være fra 100 til 1 200 ^m. after cooling the melt, it is granulated and ground. The products obtained in this way satisfy all the aforementioned requirements for a good marking agent. The particle size of the marking agent after painting should preferably be from 100 to 1200 µm.
Essential to the invention is that the plastics used are high molecular weight and thermoplastically workable and that. they simultaneously exhibit low water absorption capacity, high specific heat; low thermal conductivity and low specific weight.

The iron powder and/or powder of ferromagnetic alloys must be present, at least in quantities of 1%, before the marking agent can be separated from the blast waste by means of magnets. In general, ferromagnetic material is added in amounts from 3 to 20 wt/o. In particular, amounts from 5 to 12 % by volume have proven beneficial.
For easier coding and decoding with marking agents according to the invention, there must be at least 2 of the substance groups fluorescent pigments, fluorescent substances, color pigments, oxides and/or salts of rare metals such as oxides and/or sparingly soluble salts of rare earths. The more different substance groups that are used, the greater the variability and the easier it is to make an unambiguous return with regard to the manufacturer, production date and composition of the explosive.
In order to be able to easily detect the substance groups in the marking agents according to the invention, also microanalytically, these must be present in the following amounts: b) fluorescent pigments in amounts from 0.1 to 8% by weight, preferably 2 to 5 uekt/o, c) fluorescent substance f is in amounts from 0.1 to 5 wt/S, preferably 1 to 3 wt%, d) color pigments in amounts from 0.5 to 8 wt/o, preferably 1 to 5 wt%, e) oxides and/or salts au rare metals in amounts from 0.5 to 8 wt/6, preferably 1 to 5 wt%, f) oxides and/or salts of rare earth species in amounts from 0.5 to 5 wt/S, preferably 1 to 3 wt% .
The fluorescent pigments must be insoluble in water and organic solvents, while the fluorescent substances must be insoluble in water, but soluble in organic solvents. In this way, the substance groups can be easily separated from each other and can be determined independently of each other. Color pigments, oxides and/or salts of rare metals and oxides and/or sparingly soluble salts of rare earth species must also be insoluble in water and organic solvents so that they remain in the waste in all cases and can then be unambiguously determined analytically next to each other. .
In order to distribute the different substance groups homogeneously in the marking agent according to the invention, these must be introduced into the melt of the polymers and be mixed intensively. For this, mixing tools with extremely good cutting and kneading effects have been advantageous. Single-screw extruders are still unsuitable for this. Twin-screw extruders are well suited on the condition that they produce high cutting forces. For example, the twin-screw kneading machine au type ZSK from the company Werner & Pfleiderer, Stuttgart, has proved suitable. The batch-working forced mixer of the Banbury type also seems to be suitable. The homogeneous mixtures are then granulated. The granules should preferably have an edge length of 2 to 6 mm. Such granules can without difficulty be ground into a powder with a grain size of from 100 to 1200 µm. It is desirable to obtain a relatively narrow grain size distribution because particles of the same size behave more uniformly under the explosion conditions than products with a very wide grain size distribution. If the edge length of the granules is greater than 6 mm, marking agents with a relatively wide grain size distribution are obtained by painting, which is particularly undesirable when marking explosives. With explosives, optimal results have been achieved with marking agents that have as uniform a grain size as possible, in the range from 200 to 600 yum. If desired, one can off; the ground product with a strainer separate them. the particles that have a particularly large or very small edge length and in this way achieve a narrow grain size distribution. Furthermore, the optimal grain size distribution may also depend slightly on the type of explosive to be marked, as the marking agents must also be mixed as homogeneously as possible with the explosive in question.
Polyethylenes, polypropylenes, polyamides, polycarbonates, polyesters, polyoxyethylenes and the acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymers in particular have proven to be advantageous as high-molecular plastics of thermoplastically processable polymers with low water absorption, high specific heat, low thermal conductivity. These polymers can be mixed homogeneously with the analytically detectable substance groups in a molten state without being destroyed. Moreover, they are also suitable for keeping these substances unchanged for a long time, and enable their analytical determination by decoding. As the polymers used are in possession of reproducible thermal properties that can be determined microanalytically with the help of Differential Thermo-Analysis, these characteristics can also be used for identification and decoding, the flolecular weight, respectively the melt viscosity of the polymers is uncritical as long as the polymers can be well processed thermoplastically, however by room temperature - remains sufficiently stable against water and organic solvents. The high specific heat and low thermal conductivity protect the substances incorporated in the plastic against the effects of the explosion heat. The low specific gravity allows an easier separation of the marking agents according to the invention, from the explosion waste using liquid liquids with a suitable specific density.
As mentioned, the ferromagnetic parts only serve to separate and enrich the markers according to the invention from the explosion waste and not for the analytical

The marking agents according to the invention are in principle suitable for marking substances with regard to their origin, their composition and their production date, provided that there is a serious interest in it. Such an interest consists or arises in principle, in the case of substances that may impair the safety of the population, the Clarifying agents according to the invention can thus be used for the identification of powdery substances where, for safety or forensic reasons, it is appropriate or important to be able to identify the substances with regard to type , manufacturer and date of manufacture. This problem is particularly important in the case of explosives. The marking agents according to the invention are therefore particularly to be used in connection with explosives.

Eksempel 5Example 5
Marking agents according to the above examples 1 to 6 were mixed with explosives in amounts from 0.05 to 1% by weight. The marking agents were enriched with the waste from the test blasting with the help of magnets. The mixture of marking agents and other ferromagnetic waste components were separated with the help of aqueous salt solutions of different densities. The fraction containing exclusively the marker was analyzed for its constituents. It was immediately possible to separate the different marking agents from each other and thus identify the explosive used.
