Description
The coloring of plastics can be done in such a way that a color powder or a Pigment is incorporated in granulate form. However, preference is given to using granules given because it is easier and cleaner to handle than a powdered paint that dusts and the processing machines very dirty. This explains why in the coloring of plastics nowadays wherever it is possible to work according to the masterbatch process, its peculiarity consists in that from the color pigment and a plastic raw material, optionally with addition of additives matched to the intended use, prepares a granulatable premix and this is incorporated in granulate form into the material to be cemented.
The use of the masteibatch process for coloring polystyrene has so far proven to be insurmountable appearing difficulties opposed, which is why in this case mostly the coloring made using colored powders and the associated processing disadvantages were accepted. When using the masterbatch process Difficulties resulting from polystyrene were that when known color body granules were used the dye is not evenly distributed in the polystyrene and streaks appear in the molded part. This disadvantage also results from a known proposal for a pigment granulate for coloring of polystyrene according to the masterbatch process, in which the granulate is an irr. Compared to the one to be colored Polystyrene contains a great deal of low molecular weight polystyrene. This masterbatch granulate possesses still insufficient solubility in the polystyrene to be colored. The streaking is then particularly pronounced when cadmium pigment is incorporated into the granulate as a dye.
Nachdem der Schmelzpunkt des Po-ίο The invention is based on the object To create a pigment granulate, using its polystyrene, is uniform and streak-free can be colored. To solve this problem, the invention proposes that the granules forming Mixture in addition to the dye and polystyrene as a further high molecular weight substance a hydrogenated Contains koiophonium glycerine ester and the melting point of the pigment granulate is between 130 up to 200 ° C. After the melting point of the po-
ao lystyrols bei etwa 240° C liegt, .fällt dem erfindungsgemäß zu verwendenden Zusatz zum Polystyrol die Aufgabe zu, den Schmelzpunkt der Mischung im Vergleich zum reinen Polystyrol wesentlich niedriger einzustellen. ao lystyrene is at about 240 ° C., the task of the polystyrene additive to be used according to the invention is to set the melting point of the mixture significantly lower than that of pure polystyrene.
The incorporation of the color body granules according to the invention into the polystyrene can be carried out in a manner known per se Way, for example in the course of the plasticization of the polystyrene.
The ratio in the color body granules according to the invention between polystyrene and the other high molecular weight substance can be between 30:70 and 50:50. The relationship is determined in individual cases according to the processing conditions for the colored material. Mixing the substances together for the formation of the color body according to the invention can take place in a kneader. In connection to the mixing is then granulated in a manner known per se.
Der Mischungsprozeß wird so lange weitergeführt, bis der Farbstoff sich in der Mischung gleichmäßig verteilt hat.30 parts by weight of impact-resistant polystyrene (natural color) with a melting point of around 230 ° C 70 parts by weight of a hydrogenated colophony glycerol ester mixed together in a kneader at about 280 ° C. During the mixing process 20 parts by weight of cadmium red are added. The mixing process becomes so long continued until the dye is evenly distributed in the mixture.
After cooling, the mixture is crushed to granules in a hammer mill Melting point is about 135 ° C.
