Method as set forth in claim 2, characterized in that self-cooling is carried out in two consecutive stages that follow the cooling with the external refrigerant, by a small portion of LNG being drained from the main stream at each of the two stages mentioned, the pressure of the tapped LNG is reduced, and the gas is passed in heat-exchange conditions with the main flow in all the preceding steps.
