Abstract
Description
Werkwijze voor het samenvoegen van glasdeeltjes tot een gebonden massa en daardoor verkregen materiaal.Method for combining glass particles into a bound mass and material obtained thereby.
De uitvinding heeft betrekking op een werkwijze voor het samenvoegen van glasdeeltjes uit bijvoorbeeld retourglas, tot een gebonden massa, alsmede op materiaal en produkten volgens die werkwijze zijn vervaardigd. The invention relates to a method for combining glass particles from, for example, return glass, into a bonded mass, as well as to materials and products manufactured according to that method.
De hoeveelheid glas, als opbrengst van het op grote schaal inzamelen van glas overtreft in hoge mate de mogelijkheden van hergebruik. The amount of glass, as a result of the large-scale collection of glass, greatly exceeds the possibilities for reuse.
Bekende vormen van hergebruik worden beschreven in het Amerikaanse octrooi nr. 3 900 303. In alle gevallen betreft het een hergebruik, dat bestaat in het toevoegen van glasdeeltjes aan een ander mengsel.Known forms of reuse are described in US patent no. 3 900 303. In all cases it concerns a reuse, which consists in adding glass particles to another mixture.
Patent No. 1813901 describes a method for fusing glass particles on a glass plate for decorative purposes. These particles can be fused together by heating. The invention, however, relates to the gluing and fusing of one layer on a flat bottom layer and requirements are imposed for that purpose on the shape of the glass particles.
Patent No. 3,900,303 describes a method in which the glass particles are joined together to form a mass by adding a binder and a foaming agent. Except that a maximum of 0.2 mm is imposed on the grain size, as a result of which higher demands are made on the processing of the glass particles and the mutual adhesion of the particles is achieved by means of an addition other than glass, the material obtained loses also the appearance of glass.
Het is het doel van de uitvinding de glasdeeltjes zonder verdere toevoegingen aan de samenstelling op eenvoudiger wijze tot een constructief bruikbaar belastbaar en esthetisch aantrekkelijk materiaal samen te voegen met behoud van de karakteristieken van de afzonderlijke glasdeeltjes. The object of the invention is to combine the glass particles in a simpler manner in a constructionally usable loadable and aesthetically attractive material without further additives to the composition, while retaining the characteristics of the individual glass particles.
This object is achieved by coating glass particles, which can vary in size and thus can be obtained from different glass grinding and processing systems, in a mold or on a surface and heat them slowly to the point that the periphery of the individual particles fuses together, without the cores of the individual particles reaching the melting point. This creates a fused mass, in which the shape, colors of particles and the patterns in which they are deposited remain largely recognizable and are decisive factors in the appearance of the mass, which, by varying therein, can be largely influenced. Because the particles are not completely melted and converted into a homogeneous mass, fewer requirements are imposed on the homogeneity of the raw materials used and energy is saved compared to processes in which this is the case. Because no additives other than the glass particles are added, the material can be reused per se without harmful side effects, also by the same procedure. These factors represent a significant environmental gain. The material obtained by this process is characterized by a structure in which the visually observable characteristics of the individual particles, such as that e.g. Meur, translucency, size, can be preserved and largely determine the appearance in mutual connection, whereby the appearance of the material can be determined within rough limits by the choice of the added glass particles and the manner and order in which and in which particles are combined. By shaping the mold in which the particles are brought together, the final material can be given a three-dimensional random shape.
De glasmassa kan tijdens het procédé door walsen of anderzins uitgeoefende druk worden verdicht. The glass mass can be compacted during the process by rolling or other pressure.
Tussen de verschillende lagen glasdeeltjes kan een bewapening worden aangebracht van b.v. glasvezels.Between the different layers of glass particles, a reinforcement of e.g. glass fibers.
In de glasmassa kan gas worden geïnjecteerd, dat daardoor tussen de versmeltende deeltjes wordt ingesloten, waardoor het volumegewicht van het materiaal wordt gereduceerd.Gas can be injected into the glass mass, which is thereby trapped between the fusing particles, thereby reducing the volume weight of the material.
Ook kunnen tussen de glasdeeltjes ter bewapening glasvezels worden aangebracht, die een hoger smeltpunt hebben dan de omringende glasdeeltjes, waardoor de glasdeeltjes met de vezels versmelten, zonder dat de bewapeningsstructuur verloren gaat. Daarbij kan, ter betere versmelting van de glasdeeltjes met de vezels, door korte tijd de temperatuur te verhogen de periferie van de vezels week worden gemaakt.Glass fibers which have a higher melting point than the surrounding glass particles can also be placed between the glass particles for reinforcement, whereby the glass particles fuse with the fibers, without the reinforcement structure being lost. In order to improve the fusion of the glass particles with the fibers, the periphery of the fibers can be softened by briefly increasing the temperature.
