Abstract

The crane has a portal frame (1) travelling along a fixed track on board a ship. In the top part of the frame is an auxiliary crane (3) travelling along a track (28) at right angles to the main one (2). The hoist mechanism of the auxiliary crane can be mounted in the frame, the hoist rope (5) being reeved round pulleys in the frame, crane (7) and lifting hook (8) and back to a fixed point on the frame, so that the crane can travel along its track (28) without lifting or lowering the hook.
