Abstract

The article e.g. chair or settee has a wooden frame comprising two or more flat panels joined together by cross-beams. They are held in place by tension rods (8) passing right through axial holes in the beams (2). Each beam can be formed of two components secured together, the axial holes consisting of complementary grooves in each, and they can have lugs at the ends engaging in mating recesses in the panels to prevent turning and hold them accurately in place. The two sections of the beam can be glued together, and the rods can have screw threads at the ends to take allen nuts. Cladding in the form of fitting upholstery etc. can be provided to enclose panels beams, rods and nuts.
