Cpds. of formula (I) (where R 1 and R2 are each H or together represent a condensed benzene ring; R3 is 6-14C alkyl, benzyl with 0.5 chlorinate substituents on the benzene ring, or 3-(4-8C alkoxy)-2-hydroxypropyl; R4 is H or 1-3C alkyl (X)22- represents two monoanions; and A is -(CH2)m-CONH-(CH2)n-NHCO-(CH2)m- in which m is 1 or 2 and n is 2 2-12), which are bactericides useful as disinfectants and antiseptics, as pre-operative skin disinfectants, and in dental hygeine, are prepd. by reacting imidazolylalkanioc acid derivatives of formula II) (where R5 is H or 1-4C alkyl and X- is a monoamin) with a diamine of formula H2B(CH2)NH2.
