Abstract
AN OPTICAL FIBRE MEASURING INSTRUMENT FOR MEASURING DISPLACEMENT AND/OR COLOUR LEVEL VARIATIONS WHICH COMPRISES AT LEAST TWO LIGHTING MEANS (1,3, 5), AN OPTICAL FIBER BUNDLE BIFURCATION (7), AN OPTICAL REFLECTANCE PROBE (9), A SENSOR MEANS (15), A BAND-PASS FILTER (17), A SIGNAL CONDITIONING CIRCUITRY (19) AND A DISPLAY SYSTEM (21) WHICH CAN SHOW TRUE OR RELATIVE VALUE OF THE MEASURED VARIABLES UNDER VARIABLE AMBIENT LIGHT AND/OR TEMPERATURE WITH NEGLIGIBLE LONG TEAM OUTPUT DRIFT. WITH THE SAME OPTICAL FIBRE REFLECTANCE PROBE (9), BUT WITHOUT ANY TRANSDUCER AT THE END OF THE PROBE, THE INSTRUMENT SYSTEM CAN MEASURE AND DISPLAY COLOR LEVELS, MICROMETER DISPLACEMENTS AND VIBRATION. WITH OPTICAL CHEMICAL TRANSDUCERS, THE INSTRUMENT HAS MEASURED SALINITY AND PH, AND PESTICIDE CONTAMINATION IN FRUITS AND VEGETABLES. WITH APPROPRIATE OPTICAL TRANSDUCERS, THE INSTRUMENT SYSTEM CAN MEASURE OTHER PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL VARIABLES. THE INSTRUMENT CAN AMPLIFY SIGNAL UP TO 500,000;000 TIME WITH NEGLIGIBLE LONG TERM DRIFT DUE TO THE INTELLIGENT SIGNAL CONDITIONING CIRCUITRY (19) AND FIBRE OPTIC LINK DESIGN. (FIGURE 1)
