AN OBJECT IS TO PROVIDE A METHOD OF RECOVERING PRECIOUS METAL FROM A PRECIOUS METAL FINE PARTICLE DISPERSION, WHEREIN THE PRECIOUS METAL FINE PARTICLES ARE FLOCCULATED IN A SHORT TIME TO PRODUCE A FLOCCULATE HAVING EXCELLENT PRECIPITABILITY ADN FILTERABILITY, THUS ALLOWING EASY SEPARATION OF THE PRECIOUS METAL FROM THE SOLVENT. A COMPOUND HAVING MERCAPTO GROUPS IS ADDED AS A FLOCCULANT TO A PRECIUOS METAL FINE PARTICLE DISPERSION IN WHICH FINE PARTICLES CONTAINING GOLD AND/OR SILVER ARE DISPERSED IN A SOLVENT, THUS FLOCCULATING THE FINE PRECIOUS METAL PARTICLES, AND THEN THE FLOCCULATED FINE PRECIOUS METAL PARTICLES ARE SEPARATED FROM THE SOLVENT. THE COMPOUND HAVING MERCAPTO GROUPS PREFERABLY HAS AT LEAST 2 MERCAPTO GROUPS PER MOLECULE, AND MOREOVER, ALONG WITH THE COMPOUND HAVING MERCAPTO GROUPS, AN INORGANIC SALT, OR AN ACID OR AN ALKALI, CAN BE ADDED AS A FLOCCULATING AID.
