Abstract

The process for the production of monosodium, monoammonium, and monopotassium phosphates using phosphoric rocks, sulphuric acid, sodium sulphate, ammonium sulphate, and potassium sulphate as raw materials consists in treating said rocks with a suitable amount of nitric acid in order to transform calcium phosphates and insoluble calcium carbonate contained in rocks into soluble calcium nitrate, phosphoric acid and soluble monocalcium phosphate. In a second step, the reacted mass is filtered, and the solution thus obtained reacted with a lime slurry so as to transform the soluble phosphates into insoluble di-calcium phosphate, this second step comprising a side production of soluble calcium nitrate which is separated by a filtrating and washing process. The solution of calcium nitrate is treated with 98% of sulphuric acid so that calcium nitrate is completely transformed into both nitric acid and calcium sulphate crystals which are separated apart from nitric acid by a filtering and was hing process. The obtained nitric acid is recycled and the calcium sulphate crystals are transferred to an area to be dried and commercialised. The obtained di-calcium phosphate is led to a dryer to be commercialised, or reacted with sodium, ammonium, or potassium acid sulphates so as to be transformed into insoluble gypsum and soluble phosphates such as monoammonium or monopotassium phosphates, which are separated by filtration. The water contained in the filtered solutions comprising the soluble phosphates, is evaporated so that crystal phosphates are recovered and dried for the commercialisation thereof.
