Abstract

Described is the alloying with copper, and preferably also manganse, to produce construction steel which forms a corrosion-protection coating which is dense, stable and non-porous, thus giving the steel resistance to corrosion. Such steel can also usually be welded and can be made resistant to brittle fracture down to at least -40 degree C by the addition of further alloying elements. Also described are methods of manufacturing such steels in standard, intermediate-strength and high-strength grades, plus preferred applications.
