Abstract

La invención se dirige a compuestos, composiciones y métodos para la eliminación de contaminantes de fluidos y, en particular, sulfatos y/o metales de aguas residuales industriales. Los compuestos y composiciones de la invención contienen polisacáridos y otras moléculas orgánicas. Estos agentes floculantes son seguros y efectivos, y no requieren procedimientos de manipulación especiales. Los compuestos de floculación incluyen biopolímeros de dextrano, dextrano modificado y mezclas de dextranos, más otras moléculas orgánicas y/o inorgánicas. Con la adición de floculantes de la invención al agua residual, los contaminantes tales como el sulfato y los metales pesados tóxicos pueden eliminarse de manera segura, fácil y eficiente.
