Abstract
The present disclosure is related to a process for the manufacturing of multifilament yarn and non-woven fiber with antimicrobial properties based on nanocomposites containing silver and copper nanoparticles (NPs). This process consists of three stages: i) in the first stage, Concentrate Formulation, a concentrate of polymeric nanocomposites (NCPs) of thermoplastic polymers with silver and copper NPs is manufactured, at a concentration of 5% by weight of nanoparticles, during the extrusion of this concentrate, ultrasound waves are applied to disperse the NPs in the polymer; ii) in the second stage, Nanocomposite Formulation, this concentrate is diluted in pure thermoplastic polymer to obtain NCPs at a final concentration of NPs of 0.05, 0.1, 0.5, 1, 2 and 3% by weight; iii) in the third stage, Manufacturing of Threads and Non-Woven Fiber, these nanocomposites are fed to a spinner to make 24-filament yarns and non-woven fabric. In the case of the multifilament yarns, these are braided to obtain a 96 filament yarn; later this thread is used to embroider in denim-type cotton fabric. This embroidered fabric and the non-woven fabric have a percentage of bacterial inhibition; where it is observed that embroidery with polypropylene threads with copper NPs they present an inhibition percentage that goes from 30.1 to 99.9%. For the fabric embroidered with polypropylene threads with silver NPs, presents an inhibition percentage that goes from 45.6 to 99.5%. In the case of the nonwoven fabric with NPs, it has a percentage of antimicrobial inhibition that goes from 54.83 to 99.91%. The present invention is directed to the industrial sector which is responsible of manufacturing yarns, textiles, baby and adult diapers, carpets, mattresses and clothes, as well as the health sector, biomedical, automotive and plastic transformation industries, inter alia.
