Description
The present invention relates to a lithium metal battery with high energy density by applying an ether-based cosolvent-based electrolyte.
Recently, with the rapid spread of electronic devices that use batteries, such as mobile phones, laptop computers, and electric vehicles, the demand for small, light, and relatively high capacity secondary batteries is rapidly increasing. In particular, lithium secondary batteries are lightweight and have high energy density, so they are attracting attention as a driving power source for portable devices. Accordingly, research and development efforts to improve the performance of lithium secondary batteries are actively underway.
이러한 현상은 에테르 기반 용매의 높은 LUMO(lowest unoccupied molecular orbital)와 HOMO(highest occupied molecular orbital) 에너지 레벨 때문인 것으로 알려져 있다. Meanwhile, the ether solvent-based electrolyte solution actively used in lithium metal battery research has the advantage of excellent stability with the lithium metal anode, but has the problem of not operating stably and decomposing at the interface with the high energy and high voltage anode. This phenomenon is known to be due to the high LUMO (lowest unoccupied molecular orbital) and HOMO (highest occupied molecular orbital) energy levels of ether-based solvents.
As a way to solve this problem, a fluorinated ether-based solvent such as FDMB (fluorinated 1, 4-dimethoxybutane) is used. FDMB is lower than the HOMO energy level of existing ether-based solvents due to the strong inductive effect of fluorine. It is a solvent that can lower and thereby solves the problem of decomposition at the high-voltage anode interface. However, it has been pointed out that these fluorinated ether solvents have low ionic conductivity due to their high viscosity.
Therefore, there is a continued need for technology development regarding ether-based electrolyte solutions that are not only stable with the lithium metal anode, but also operate stably at the interface with the high-energy and high-voltage anode.
Accordingly, the present invention solves the problem that the conventional ether-based solvent-based electrolyte solution has excellent stability with the lithium metal anode, but cannot operate stably and decomposes at the interface with the high energy and high voltage anode, and provides lithium metal with high energy density. We would like to provide batteries.
Hereinafter, an electrolyte composition for a lithium metal battery according to specific embodiments of the invention will be described.

Electrolyte composition for lithium metal battery
According to one embodiment of the present invention, lithium salt; and a non-aqueous organic solvent, wherein the non-aqueous organic solvent includes a fluorinated dialkoxy alkane-based solvent and a dialkoxy alkane-based solvent. An electrolyte composition for a lithium metal battery is provided. The non-aqueous organic solvent can serve as a medium through which ions involved in the electrochemical reaction of the battery can move.
The present inventors have continued research and experiments to solve the problem of low ionic conductivity due to high viscosity in the case of electrolyte solutions using conventional fluorinated ether-based solvents.
As a result of this continued research, it was confirmed that when a co-solvent is provided by mixing a plurality of solvents with different characteristics, the electrolyte using it can have not only excellent stability but also ionic conductivity characteristics. Specifically, it was confirmed that excellent performance can be obtained when the electrolyte contains a combination of a specific type of fluorinated dialkoxy alkane solvent and a dialkoxy alkane solvent. In particular, when these heterogeneous solvents were contained in a certain ratio, optimal ionic conductivity and oxidation stability could be obtained simultaneously.
Specifically, the ether solvent-based electrolyte has high LUMO and HOMO energy levels, which causes it to decompose rather than operate stably at the interface between the high-energy and high-voltage anode and the electrolyte. Meanwhile, in the case of fluorinated ether-based solvents, the HOMO energy level can be lowered due to the strong inductive effect of fluorine atoms. However, unlike the ether solvent-based electrolyte solution, it has a high viscosity, which lowers the ionic conductivity. The present inventors used a specific type of fluorinated dialkoxy alkane-based solvent and dialkoxy alkane-based solvent. By applying it to a non-aqueous organic solvent, excellent stability and ionic conductivity were simultaneously obtained.
These excellent ionic conductivity and oxidation stability characteristics can be supported through measurements of lithium symmetric battery life characteristics, ionic conductivity measurements, and oxidation stability measurements in Experimental Examples 1 to 3 described later.
