According to a recent announcement from the Insurance Review and Assessment Service, patients visiting hospitals with gum disease outnumber those with colds. This means that since 2019, Korean citizens have visited medical institutions the most due to gingivitis and periodontal disease, more often than colds.
Gingivitis and periodontal disease are mainly caused by oral bacteria or bacteria-derived substances. Plaque is formed by bacteria and food in the mouth, and plaque that is not removed in time forms tartar, causing periodontal disease. Substances secreted by bacteria cause an inflammatory reaction in the gums, which causes the gums to swell and bleed. Inflammation that is initially limited to the gums is called 'gingivitis', and if the inflammation worsens due to lack of proper treatment, it develops into 'periodontitis'.
At this time, alveolar bone destruction and gingival recession (exposed tooth roots due to loss of gum tissue) occur, and in severe cases, tooth movement (teeth shaking left and right or up and down) occurs and eventually leads to tooth loss. If inflammation is severe, it can penetrate into the blood vessels and cause serious systemic diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, etc., so oral care is important. In particular, swollen gums or bleeding when brushing teeth are emergency rescue signals sent by the gums.
A photocatalyst using light energy is a compound word of light (photo) and catalyst (catalyst) and refers to a semiconductor material that promotes oxidation and reduction reactions using light as an energy source, and the oxidation and reduction reactions that occur through the photocatalytic reaction are organic It decomposes into carbon dioxide and water and has the ability to inhibit the growth or kill microorganisms.
Titanium dioxide photocatalyst, which exists in large quantities on Earth, is abundant in resources, is inexpensive, has good wear resistance and durability, is safe and does not change easily, and is not toxic to the human body, is produced by hydroxyl radical (HO) by light. ) and superoxide ion (O2-), which produce a strong oxidation reaction. Since these active oxygen effectively decomposes organic substances, they can be used for antibacterial purposes, deodorization, and removal of harmful substances. Research is needed on technologies that can demonstrate this photocatalytic effect in the visible light range.
Titanium dioxide doped with metal substances, which can show satisfactory photocatalytic reactions and effects even in the visible light range, have been widely studied for a long time. It has been observed that the band gap is reduced by most metal materials, so it is expected that the reaction will occur in visible light, but depending on the type and amount of metal used, the time for which electrons and holes formed by light exist separately is relatively normal. It is shorter than titanium dioxide and has lower reactivity.
Recently, it was reported in Science that doping titanium dioxide with non-metallic substances such as nitrogen and carbon lowers the band gap and improves reactivity in visible light, and related research is being conducted around the world.
However, satisfactory photocatalytic effects cannot be expected in the visible light range, so in recent years, attempts have been made to move away from titanium dioxide using only non-metallic materials and develop titanium dioxide photocatalysts that have good catalytic activity even in the visible light region by simultaneously doping metal and non-metallic materials. Many research results are being published through him. Therefore, it is time to develop a new metal/non-metal co-doped titanium dioxide photocatalyst that has excellent photocatalytic activity even in the visible light range instead of ultraviolet rays and can show satisfactory antibacterial, deodorizing, and removal of harmful substances effects.

As shown in Figure 1(a), pure titanium dioxide, which has been conventionally used as a photocatalyst, is exposed to ultraviolet rays when electrons in the valence band (VB) emit light of 3.2 eV, which is the energy difference from the conduction band (CB). Only when energy is absorbed, transition to the conduction band (CB) occurs, generating hydroxyl radical anions (·HO-) and superoxide ions (O2-) as shown in Figure 2, and their actions This causes an oxidation reaction to produce a strong sterilizing and whitening effect. This application newly develops and applies a new nitrogen/ag doped titanium dioxide (N/Ag Dopped Titanium Oxide) instead of the pure TiO2 semiconductor material used in the prior art to create a band of titanium dioxide as shown in (d) of Figure 1. By greatly reducing (3.2eV --> 1.5eV), hydroxyl radical anion (˙HO-) and superoxide ion (O2-) are generated even at specific wavelengths (λ≥420∼550nm) in the visible light range. makes it easier. In addition, Figure 3 shows the process of showing the sterilization effect by photocatalysis when visible light of λ ≥ 405 nm is irradiated on titanium dioxide-based Ag-doped material (N/Ag-TiO2).
When titanium dioxide receives energy (ultraviolet rays) above a certain level, electrons (e-) and holes (h+) are formed. At this time, hydroxy radicals (OH.) are formed through the holes formed, and organic substances are decomposed by the hydroxy radicals (OH.) formed in this way. However, in order for titanium dioxide to act as a photocatalyst, a short wavelength in the ultraviolet range is required. Since most of the sunlight is visible light, the development of a catalyst that is active even under visible light is required. Figure 1 is a schematic diagram of the reaction principle of a visible light photocatalyst. As shown in Figure 1, the principle of the reaction is to reduce the energy (band gap energy) at which electrons and holes are separated through doping of metal or non-metallic materials, thereby allowing the reaction to occur in visible light, that is, light weaker than ultraviolet rays. can do.
In the present invention, by doping nitrogen and silver to reduce the band gap energy, not only did the photocatalytic activity appear in the visible light region, but the catalytic activity was also improved.

Mixing a silver (Ag) doped titanium dioxide solution and a nitrogen doped additive; stirring the mixture; and heat treating the stirred mixture to form nitrogen and silver (Ag) composite doped titanium dioxide.
The heat treatment may be performed at 180 to 200 °C for 2 to 4 hours.
In this application, by doping nitrogen and silver to reduce the band gap energy, not only can photocatalytic activity be shown even in the visible light region, but catalytic activity can be improved. By doping nitrogen and silver together, surface characteristics such as surface area, particle size, and pore size can be improved. Doping with silver (Ag) prevents the growth of crystals caused during the firing process and maintains the porosity of the catalyst, thereby increasing the surface area of the catalyst. As the amount of silver increases, the average crystal particle size also decreases.

Sample production]
1][Sample 1]
23 parts by weight of 0.1 mol titanium butoxide [Ti(OBu)4], 68 parts by weight of isopropyl alcohol, 0.89 parts by weight of nitric acid, and 10 parts by weight of distilled water are mixed and stirred to make a titanium (Ti) sol solution, and the silver nitrate concentration is 1.5%. After dissolving in distilled water, the titanium sol solution and the silver nitrate solution were added at a ratio of 7:1 to prepare 5% Ag-TiO 2 with a silver content of 5% by weight.
2][Sample 2]
A sample was prepared in the same manner as Sample 1 except that the silver nitrate concentration was 3.0%, thereby preparing 10% Ag-TiO 2 with a silver content of 10% by weight.
3][Sample 3]
A sample was prepared in the same manner as Sample 1 except that the silver nitrate concentration was 34.5%, thereby preparing 15% Ag-TiO 2 with a silver content of 15% by weight.
4][Sample 4]
Prepare a 100 mL ethanol solution containing 0.5 g of 10% silver-doped titanium dioxide prepared in Sample 2, then add diethylamine (0.73 g, 0.1 mol) to make a dissolved solution, as in the silver-doped titanium dioxide solution prepared above. 5% N/Ag-TiO 2 doped with 5% by weight of nitrogen (N) and 10% by weight of silver was prepared by adding it drop by drop. (In other words, the change in nitrogen doping content (5-15%) means the change in nitrogen concentration under the standard of 10% Ag-TiO 2. For example, the 15% nitrogen/silver doped titanium dioxide (N/Ag doped TiO2) photocatalyst is 15%. It refers to titanium dioxide doped with % nitrogen and 10% silver (Ag).)
5][Sample 5]
10% N/Ag-TiO 2 doped with 10 wt% nitrogen and 10 wt% silver was prepared in the same manner as sample 4 except that the nitrogen content was 10 wt%.
6][Sample 6]
15% N/Ag-TiO 2 doped with 15% by weight of nitrogen and 10% by weight of silver was prepared in the same manner as Sample 4 except that the nitrogen content was 15% by weight.
9][Sample 7 to Sample 9]
Titanium dioxide 5%N-TiO 2 , 10%N-TiO 2 , and 15%N-TiO 2 doped with only nitrogen but not silver were prepared, respectively.

XRD (X-ray Diffraction) was performed to determine the effect of changes in the content of doped nitrogen and silver (5 to 15%) on the crystal structure and crystal size of the photocatalyst. The X-ray diffraction patterns measured from the nitrogen- and silver-doped titanium dioxide photocatalyst prepared through Samples 4 to 6 and the undoped pure TiO 2 photocatalyst for reference are shown in FIG. 4.
As shown in Figure 4, the measurement results show that each crystal plane of pure anatase (1 0 1), (0 0 4), (2 0 0), (1 0) for both pure TiO 2 and TiO 2 doped with nitrogen and silver. 5), (2 1 1), (2 0 4), peaks were observed at 2θ of 25.3°, 38.0°, 48.2°, 54.0°, 55.1°, and 63.0°.
TiO 2 photocatalyst doped with metal or non-metal or pure TiO 2 both have three structural shapes: amorphous brookite, crystalline anatase, and rutile. This structural shape is generally determined by the starting material, solvent, catalyst, coating method, calcination temperature, etc. In general, titanium dioxide with an anatase type crystal structure has excellent activity.
In the case of titanium dioxide photocatalyst, an anatase structure was not generated before calcination, whereas only anatase crystal structure was generated during drying before calcination, and it was confirmed that the anatase crystal structure was maintained even when calcinated at high temperature.
This fact shows that the peak for the representative anatase crystal plane (1 0 1) appears at 2θ at 25.3°, and the peak for the representative rutile crystal plane (1 1 0) appears at 2θ at 27.58°, as shown in Figure 4 obtained from this experiment. It can be confirmed from the results that in the XRD pattern, only the representative peak of anatase is observed at 2θ of 25.3°, and the representative peak of rutile at 2θ of 27.58° does not appear.

The average crystal particle size and lattice strain of the catalyst can be calculated using the Debye-Scherrer (D-S) formula and Williamson-Hall (W-H) model, and the calculation results for samples 1 to 10 are shown in Table 1. .

(AverageSD)
From these calculation results, the exact crystal size of the synthesized photocatalyst can be confirmed. It was confirmed that the crystal size of the nitrogen-silver doped photocatalyst decreases with the doping additive during the doping process. TiO 2 with a crystal size of 61 nm is N/Ag TiO 2 It was reduced to 9 to 15 nm by doping. At this time, the smallest crystal size was 5% N/Ag TiO 2 and was observed at 9.86 nm.
This decrease in crystal size is because the density of N and Ag in the TiO 2 lattice increases, and as a result, grain growth of the TiO 2 crystal is suppressed.
3][Evaluation 3]
In order to examine the surface shape and particle size of the titanium dioxide photocatalyst, SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) images were taken for Sample 10, Sample 2, Sample 8, and Sample 5, and the results are shown in Figure 5.
As a result of the experiment, all photocatalysts imaged in this experiment had the same circular shape. The undoped pure TiO 2 photocatalyst was an agglomeration of large particles with a size of 60 to 100 nm, and compared to this, the particle size of the doped photocatalyst was small. It was confirmed that it was uniformly distributed.
As a result of SEM image analysis, the estimated particle size was found to be 40 to 50 nm for Ag-TiO 2 , 15 to 20 nm for N-TiO 2 , and 30 to 40 nm for N/Ag-TiO 2 .
Additionally, undoped pure TiO 2 powder was bright white, and 10% N-TiO 2 , 10% Ag-TiO 2 , and 10% N/Ag-TiO 2 were pale yellow, light gray, and dark gray, respectively. The reason that photocatalysts show different colors depending on the doping state is related to the type of doping material added and its ability to absorb and reflect visible light. For example, pure TiO 2 appears white because it reflects all visible light wavelengths, while doped photocatalysts absorb more visible light than pure TiO 2 and reflect only some colors of light from the surface of each doped material. Different colors were displayed.
4][Evaluation 4]
In order to determine the light absorption ability of the photocatalyst at different wavelengths in the visible light range, UV-Vis absorption spectra were obtained for Sample 2, Sample 4, Sample 7, and Sample 10 using a UV-Visible spectrometer.
The intensity of Absorbed Radiation at different wavelengths indicates the light absorption ability of the photocatalyst.
As shown in Figure 6, Ag-doped Ag-TiO 2 and N/Ag-TiO 2 photocatalyst samples have a dark color and show a phenomenon of very strong absorption of light in the visible range of 400 to 600 nm, which is This is due to the Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) effect of Ag nanoparticles that appears in the wavelength range of approximately 450 to 550 nm.
Light yellow N-TiO 2 powder shows a low Absorbed Radiation intensity in the visible light region, as shown by the blue solid line in Figure 6, and white pure TiO 2 powder with a black solid line hardly absorbs light in the visible light region. . These observation results indicate that the change in the light absorption edge of the TiO 2 semiconductor is related to the fusion of nitrogen and silver.
To compare the bandgap energy of TiO 2 doped with nitrogen and silver and without it, a Tauc plot [inset (small square) in FIG. 6] was applied and calculated by applying it to all TiO 2 photocatalysts prepared through the examples. The band gap values are shown in Table 1. Here, the Tauc plot refers to a graph used to determine the optical band gap or Tauc gap in a semiconductor.
As a result of band gap calculation, the band gap energy of the photocatalyst decreased with doping treatment, 3.20 eV for pure TiO 2 , 3.00-3.02 eV for N-TiO 2 , 1.7-2.1 eV for Ag-TiO 2 , N/Ag -TiO 2 was 1.5-1.6eV. These results indicate that Ag doping has a much greater effect in reducing the bandgap energy compared to N doping. As a result of the experiment, the photocatalyst with the smallest bandgap energy was 5% N/Ag TiO 2 , which has the effect of enhancing visible light photocatalytic activity due to the synergistic effect of N and Ag.
5][Evaluation 5]
The electronic structure and electronic hole recombination rate of the photocatalyst materials of Sample 2, Sample 4, Sample 7, and Sample 10 were measured using Photoluminescence (PL) Spectroscopy.
All of the above photocatalysts were observed to have the same type of emission spectra at approximately 480-490 nm. At this time, the PL intensity of 5% N/Ag-TiO 2 and 10% Ag-TiO 2 was found to be much lower than that of pure TiO 2 and 5% N-TiO 2 .
PL emission intensity is directly related to electron hole recombination within the TiO 2 photocatalyst. A lower PL intensity means that the recombination ratio between photoexcited electrons and holes is delayed, and this phenomenon is very helpful in increasing efficiency in the photocatalytic process. In conclusion, these results show that in silver (Ag) doped photocatalysts, photoexcited electrons are trapped by silver (Ag) particles that act like electron storage containers on the TiO 2 surface, thereby suppressing electron hole recombination and delaying the recombination rate. It provides an outstanding effect that incredibly increases photocatalytic efficiency.
The roles of N and Ag on the properties of TiO 2 photocatalyst are significantly different. In the case of N doping, it plays an important role in the characteristics related to the specific surface area and morphology of the photocatalyst. E Another doping material, silver (Ag), plays an important role in reducing the band gap energy. It not only increases the absorption of light in the visible light region, but also delays the recombination of electrons and holes.
This synergistic effect of N and Ag doping can be obtained in N/Ag-TiO 2 photocatalyst. In this case, N doping leads to the creation of a new intermediate band energy on the O 2p Valence Bond by the N 2p band, and Ag doping forms a Fermi Level with a lower energy value than the conduction band of TiO 2 , thereby creating a difference in band gap energy. narrow it down

The adsorption capacity and photocatalytic performance of the photocatalyst samples of N and Ag co-doped TiO 2 and pure TiO 2 sample 10, which showed the best photocatalytic performance in the above evaluations, were measured using methylene blue (MB). It was evaluated.
Add 1 g of the prepared photocatalyst powder to 100 mL of methylene blue (MB) solution with a concentration of 1 Photocatalytic performance was evaluated by measuring the concentration of MB.
Figure 8 shows the photocatalyst performance measurement results by measuring the amount of MB decomposition for N/Ag TiO 2 photocatalysts.
As a result of the experiment, in the case of the MB solution without the addition of photocatalyst powder, the degree of decomposition of the MB dye was measured 6 hours after turning on the 450nm LED, which is in the visible light range, and only about 6% was photodecomposed. However, when N/Ag-TiO 2 photocatalyst was added, the MB concentration was dramatically reduced even after only 30 minutes of irradiation time.
All N/Ag Co-doped TiO 2 photocatalyst samples showed excellent MB decomposition photocatalytic performance, and among them, 5% N/Ag-TiO 2 showed the highest MB decomposition photocatalytic performance of 98.82% in 6 hours. This is because 5% N/Ag-TiO 2 has optimal photocatalytic properties such as large surface area, narrow bandgap energy, and slow electron-hole recombination rate.
