Description
The present invention relates to an electrochromic device and a display device including the same, and more particularly, to an electrochromic device providing an additional function to the electrochromic properties of an electrochromic layer, and a display device including the same.
In electrochromic, an oxidation or reduction reaction occurs in an electrochromic material by an external electric field, and through this, a color change effect is visually generated. Electrochromic devices generally have a structure in which an electrochromic layer (or working electrode), an electrolyte (layer), and an ion storage layer (or counter electrode) are sequentially stacked between transparent electrodes on both sides, and electrochromic by electrochemical reaction The optical properties of the layer and the ion storage layer can be changed reversibly.
Conventionally, organic electrochromic materials have been mainly used for fast response speed and various colors, but organic materials have poor environmental durability and are not suitable for application to external environments. The electrochromic technology using inorganic materials is being developed for application to windows).
Conventional inorganic electrochromic materials have advantages of good environmental durability and large transmittivity variation, but also have disadvantages such as low response speed and impossible to implement various colors. In addition, since the conventional electrochromic device absorbs light in a discolored state of the electrochromic layer to reduce transmittance, it also absorbs light from the display light source, which is not greatly helpful in improving the visibility of the display.
Accordingly, there is a need for a technology for forming an electrochromic layer capable of realizing various colors while using an inorganic material with a fast response speed, and an electrochromic layer capable of adjusting the reflectance is required.

(Transmittivity) It is possible to control the change in transmittance according to the wavelength while the change width is large.
In addition, by controlling the ratio of metal and oxygen of the metal oxide non-stoichiometrically, the discoloration of the electrochromic material film can be blurred, and thus the discoloration of the electrochromic material film is too dark, which makes it difficult to implement other colors. In addition, various colors can be effectively implemented by harmonizing the color expressed according to the size of the metal nanoparticles and the discoloration color of the electrochromic material film.
In addition, the electrochromic layer contains metal nanoparticles with excellent electrical conductivity, so that the shielding rate of (near) infrared rays can be improved. On the other hand, the
For example, the
Here, the
The plurality of
In addition, the plurality of
And, since the absorption wavelength of the light causing resonance is the visible ray region, the plurality of
For example, the metal oxide may be a metal oxide of a metal different from the metal constituting the plurality of
In addition, the inorganic electrochromic material such as the metal oxide has a disadvantage in that it is impossible to implement various colors because it is transparent and can implement only a single color, but in the present invention, various colors can be implemented depending on the size of the
Here, the metal oxide may include tungsten oxide, and may be colored by a discoloration effect due to an oxidation reaction or a reduction reaction to exhibit a dark blue or prussian blue color, and a large transmittance change range as well as an optical density (OD) ) and discoloration efficiency (CE) may be high.
2 is a diagram for explaining the color of an electrochromic material film for each state according to the oxidation number of a metal oxide according to an embodiment of the present invention. and FIG. 2(c) shows the discoloration state.
Referring to FIG. 2 , the metal oxide may have a composition of WO 3±x (0 < x ≤ 0.5). The tungsten oxide of WO 3 generally has a dark (or dark) discoloration color of dark blue or royal blue. In this case, even if a special color is displayed depending on the size of the
When the
In this case, x in the composition formula of WO 3±x may be 0.5 or less. When x exceeds 0.5, the oxidation number of tungsten (W) is changed from 6 + to 7 + , so that the ionic bond lattice of tungsten (W) and oxygen (O) is distorted, so that the
3 is a graph for explaining the electrical and optical properties of the electrochromic material film according to the oxidation number of the metal oxide according to an embodiment of the present invention. 2 and 3 , the metal oxide may include oxygen in an amount greater than the stoichiometric amount of oxygen with respect to the metal of the metal oxide. On the other hand, when the average particle diameter of the plurality of

That is, the plurality of second nanoparticles may reflect light having a wavelength different from that of the plurality of first nanoparticles, and thus may exhibit different colors from the plurality of first nanoparticles. Through this, a third color may be expressed by synthesizing (or mixing) the first color of the plurality of first nanoparticles and the second color of the plurality of second nanoparticles, and By mixing (or synthesizing) the discoloration color and the third color, the discoloration color of the
When the
In this case, the plurality of
Accordingly, by limiting the particle size deviation of the plurality of
In addition, the reflectance of the
Here, the reflectance of the

Conventionally, in order to improve the visibility of a display in a transparent display, a variable transmittance element such as PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal), SPD (Suspended Particle Display), EC (ElectroChromic), etc. is applied, and PDLC, SPD and conventional EC (or electric Although the color-changing element) can reduce the transmittance through discoloration, PDLC and SPD mainly scatter light in the discolored state to lower the transmittance, and the conventional EC absorbs light in the discolored state to reduce transmittance. It doesn't help much to improve. In particular, when PDLC, SPD, and conventional EC are used as the screen of a projection type transparent display, the PDLC or SPD scatters even the light projected on the screen or the conventional EC absorbs light that can be recognized by being reflected on the screen. As this is reduced, the visibility of the display becomes poor. In addition, when PDLC, SPD, and the conventional EC are used as the backplane of the panel bonding type (OLED/EC) transparent display, the light incident from the display
However, the
In addition, the

An electrochromic device manufacturing method according to another embodiment of the present invention includes the steps of forming a
First, the
For example, the
Then, the
The process of forming the electrochromic layer 130 ( S200 ) may be performed by further increasing the partial pressure of oxygen (O 2 ) in the stoichiometric ratio of argon (Ar) and oxygen (O 2 ). That is, the
The process of forming the electrochromic layer 130 (S200) is a process of co-sputtering the metal of the
Any one of the metal oxide and the metal of the metal oxide and the metal of the
The metal oxide may include tungsten oxide (eg, WO x ), and the co-sputtering process ( S210 ) is performed on the tungsten oxide (WO x ) target or the tungsten (W) target with the
When the power applied to the tungsten oxide (WO x ) target or the tungsten (W) target is lower than twice the power applied to the metal target of the
In this case, the discoloration of the
Accordingly, in the present invention, the
Meanwhile, the power applied to the tungsten oxide (WO x ) target or the tungsten (W) target may not exceed 20 times the power applied to the metal target of the
The process of forming the electrochromic layer 130 ( S200 ) may include sputtering an alloy target of the metal of the metal oxide and the metal of the metal nanoparticles 132 ( S220 ).
An alloy target of the metal of the metal oxide and the metal of the
The metal oxide may include tungsten oxide (eg, WO x ), and the process of sputtering the alloy target ( S220 ) is twice as much as the metal (eg, Ag) of the
When the weight of tungsten (W) in the alloy target is lower than twice the weight of the metal of the
In this case, the discoloration of the
Accordingly, in the present invention, the
On the other hand, the weight of tungsten (W) in the alloy target may not exceed 20 times the weight of the metal of the
The method for manufacturing an electrochromic device according to the present invention may further include a step (S250) of heat-treating the
The heat treatment may be performed at a temperature of 150 to 500 °C. When the heat treatment temperature is higher than 500 °C, the average particle diameter of the plurality of
Therefore, in the present invention, by heat-treating the
As such, in the present invention, by including an electrochromic layer in which a plurality of metal nanoparticles are dispersed in an electrochromic material film in which a metal oxide forms a matrix of a continuous phase, various colors can be realized depending on the size of the metal nanoparticles, and the metal nanoparticles The response speed can be improved by the excellent electrical conductivity of have. In addition, since the electrochromic layer contains metal nanoparticles having excellent electrical conductivity, the shielding rate of infrared rays including near infrared rays can be improved, and accordingly, when the electrochromic element is applied to windows of automobiles, buildings, etc., the insulation effect is improved. may provide. On the other hand, the reflectance of the electrochromic element may be adjusted according to the voltage applied to the first and second electrodes, and the reflectance may be 40 to 90% in a discolored state. Also, the visibility of the display may be improved.
