Description
The present invention relates to a pigment for a paint composition comprising a spherical photonic crystal. More specifically, the present invention relates to a coating composition comprising a pigment for a paint composition consisting of a spherical photonic crystal in which colloidal particles are dispersed in a polymer material, and a dispersion medium in which the spherical photonic crystal is dispersed.
A photonic crystal is a material with a very low density of states in which a light of a specific wavelength corresponding to a photonic bandgap can be present therein. The photonic crystal is a material whose dielectric constant changes periodically at half the wavelength. Therefore, when white light enters the photonic crystal, light corresponding to the photonic band gap is selectively reflected. This is the color of the physical structure, which appears to be a reflection color and fundamentally different from the general chemical color that appears through the absorption of light.
Opals are a prime example of photonic crystals that exist in nature. Looking at the inside of the opal, it can be seen that the silica particles are periodically stacked. The photonic crystal can be manufactured by laminating the colloidal particles with the same principle as those of the opal. In this case, the reflection color is determined by the refractive index of the colloid and the background, the crystal structure, the size of the particle, the interval between the particles, and so on, so that the photonic crystal having the desired reflection color can be manufactured.
(Journal of the American Chemical Society, 128, 10897-10904 (2006); There have been several reports on the fabrication of spherical photonic crystals. First, a method of manufacturing a spherical photonic crystal using a process of evaporating a water droplet containing colloidal particles (Journal of the American Chemical Society, 128, 10897-10904 (2006); Korean Patent No. 10-0717923) It takes a long time to manufacture due to the use of the evaporation process of dispersed water droplets, and the spherical photonic crystal to be formed has a disadvantage that the mechanical strength is low and the structure is fragile.
On the other hand, a method of spraying water droplets containing colloidal particles into the air to induce rapid evaporation, thereby producing a spherical photonic crystal (Advanced Materials, 16 (7), 605-609 (2004); Korean Patent No. 10-0466251) However, it has disadvantages that the crystallinity of the spherical photonic crystal formed due to the drop in droplet volume is too low, and that the reflection color can be controlled only by the size of the colloid.
On the other hand, in recent years, a method of manufacturing a spherical photonic crystal using a photopolymerizable colloid-containing droplet (Korean Patent Application No. 10-2007-0029989) has been developed. Although this method can produce large quantities of spherical photonic crystals, its size distribution is too large to be suitable for commercial production.
In addition, a method of real-time fabrication of spherical photonic crystals of uniform size using a microfluidic device has been developed (Advanced Materials, 20, 1649-1655 (2008)). However, since it is difficult to produce spherical photonic crystals in large quantities, there was.

Further, the polymer in which the colloidal particles of the present invention are dispersed is a photo-curable polymer, and any material can be used without limitation as long as colloidal particles are dispersed and form crystals spontaneously when photocured. Preferably, a photocured polymer containing an acrylate group may be used.

The size of the colloidal particles is preferably 20 nm to 10 mu m. Moreover, the colloidal particles may be hollow or nuclear-shell structures. It is preferable that the spherical photonic crystal contains 5% (v / v) to 70% (v / v) of the colloidal particles and 95% (v / v) to 30% (v / v) of the polymer.

The position of the reflection wavelength of the spherical photonic crystal according to the present invention can be predicted by the following equation (1).
In the formula (1), n is the refractive index of the material, v p is the volume fraction of the colloidal particles, and D is the diameter of the colloidal particles. Therefore, the reflection color by the spherical photonic crystal can be controlled by the particle size and the volume fraction. Also, by removing the colloidal particles from the spherical photonic crystal, the position of the wavelength of the reflected light can be shifted in a short direction.
Another object of the present invention can be attained by providing a pigment for a paint composition comprising a porous spherical photonic crystal in which pores are dispersed in a polymer material.

Further, the polymer in which the colloidal particles of the present invention are dispersed is a photo-curable polymer, and any material can be used without limitation as long as colloidal particles are dispersed and form crystals spontaneously when photocured. Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a method of producing a liquid dispersion comprising: i) dispersing a photo-curable colloidal dispersion in which colloidal particles are dispersed in a photo-curable first dispersion medium, into a second dispersion medium containing a surfactant to form droplets; And ii) irradiating the droplet with ultraviolet light to produce a spherical photonic crystal.
The colloid particles of step i) of the method for preparing a pigment for a paint composition of the present invention may be selected from silica, titanium dioxide, polystyrene or polymethyl methacrylate. In addition, any substance capable of being cured by ultraviolet rays and capable of spontaneously forming crystals when colloidal particles are dispersed can be used without limitation.
The size of the spherical photonic crystal produced in the step ii) of the method for producing a pigment for a paint composition of the present invention is preferably 5 μm to 1 mm.
Preferred embodiments for producing the droplets of the step i) of the process for producing a pigment for a paint composition of the present invention are as follows, but are not limited thereto.
First, while injecting the photo-curable colloidal dispersion into a first inlet of a microfluidic device in which a cruciform (+) or T-shaped channel is formed, injecting the second dispersion medium into a second inlet orthogonal to the first inlet Thereby forming droplets in the step i). As a material of the device, various materials such as a flexible polymer and glass can be used.
When a microfluidic device having a cruciform channel is used as shown in FIG. 2, the photo-curable colloidal dispersion is introduced through the left channel and the second dispersion medium, which is a continuous phase, is introduced through the upper and lower channels, A uniform droplet size can be obtained through the channel. This is a method called flow focusing, which utilizes the phenomenon that an internal flow (photo-curable colloidal dispersion liquid flow) is finely focused by an external flow (a second dispersion medium flow, that is, a continuous phase flow) . A microfluidic device having a T-shaped channel as shown in FIG. 3 may be used. In Fig. 3, the shear stress of the second dispersion medium stream, which is the continuous phase, makes the photocurable colloidal dispersion a uniformly sized droplet.
또한 서로 다른 반사색을 가지는 두 가지 이상의 광결정 콜로이드 분산액을 동시에 도입함으로써 두가지 이상의 반사색을 가지는 액적을 형성시킬 수 있다(도 2b, 도3b).Further, the microfluidic device may be a microfluidic network structure in which a plurality of (+) or T-shaped channels are formed. The production amount of the spherical photonic crystal can be increased by using the micro channel network. In addition, two or more photonic crystal colloidal dispersions having different reflection colors can be simultaneously introduced to form droplets having two or more reflection colors (FIGS. 2B and 3B).
Second, separating the flow of the photo-curable colloidal dispersion and the flow of water into a plurality of apertured membranes and introducing the photo-curable colloidal dispersion into the flow of the second dispersion medium through the plurality of apertures, (Fig. 4). The shear stress of the second dispersion medium stream, which is a continuous phase, causes the photo-curable colloidal dispersion to be droplets of uniform size. In this case, in order to obtain a uniform spherical photonic crystal, a step of classifying the spherical photonic crystal obtained in the step ii) may be further included.
이 경우 서로 다른 반사색을 가지는 두 가지 이상의 광결정 콜로이드 분산액을 동시에 도입함으로써 두가지 이상의 반사색을 가지는 액적을 형성시킬 수 있다(도 5b).Third, droplets of the step i) can be formed by introducing the photo-curable colloidal dispersion through one or more microtubules into the flow of the second dispersion medium (Fig. 5). It is possible to increase the production amount of the spherical photonic crystal by increasing the number of the microtubes used. In this case, it is possible to form droplets having two or more reflection colors by simultaneously introducing two or more photonic crystal colloidal dispersions having different reflection colors (FIG. 5B).
Fourth, the droplet of step i) can be formed by rotating the at least one cylinder of the two cylinders while introducing the photo-curable colloidal dispersion into a second dispersion medium filled in a space between two coaxial cylinders (Fig. 6). Specifically, either one of the two cylinders may be rotated, the two cylinders may be rotated in opposite directions, or the two cylinders may be rotated in the same direction with different angular velocities. In this case, the droplet size distribution can be relatively wide. Therefore, in order to obtain a more uniform spherical photonic crystal, a step of classifying the spherical photonic crystal obtained in the step ii) may be further included. As a classification method according to size, a difference in sedimentation velocity using gravity or centrifugal force or a sieve can be used.
Fifth, the droplet of step i) can be formed by rotating the inner screw while introducing the photo-curable colloidal dispersion into a second dispersion medium filled in a space between the coaxial outer cylinder and the inner screw (FIG. 7). If necessary, the outer cylinder can also be rotated.
Sixth, by introducing the photo-curable colloidal dispersion into the second dispersion medium and using any one selected from the group consisting of a shaker, a vortex mixer and a homogenizer, .

As the surfactant, for example, Pluronic F108 (ethylene oxide / propylene oxide block copolymer, BASF) may be used. Pluronic F108 has a solubility in water of 10% or more at room temperature and a hydrophilic-lipophilic balance (HLB) of 24 or more, which is suitable for stabilizing oil phase. However, if the HLB value is 8 or more, it can be used in the method of the present invention.
Seventh, the liquid droplet in the step i) may be formed by applying power between the metal capillary and the metal electrode having the hole while injecting the photo-curable colloidal dispersion liquid into the second dispersion medium through the metal capillary tube (FIG. 8). In order to prevent the photopolymerization inhibition by oxygen, nitrogen or argon may be used as the second dispersion medium. In this case, two or more photonic crystal colloidal dispersions having different reflection colors can be simultaneously introduced to form droplets having two or more reflection colors.
