Description
The present invention relates to inorganic reinforced recycled polypropylene composites in which talc of recycled polypropylene has been replaced with Whisker or Glass Bubble.
In the case of automotive materials, the main research item is the weight reduction of parts, which contributes to the improvement of the performance of additional automobiles such as the improvement of fuel efficiency. In this respect, research on replacing steel and metal materials with plastics has been progressed in many parts, and many studies are being conducted. In order to contribute to the reduction of weight and fuel efficiency of automobiles in the same plastic material by narrowing the scope, much efforts are being made to research the use of materials with low specific gravity among the plastic materials and the materials that can be recycled in consideration of environmental friendliness. to be. According to the European Union's Waste Vehicles Directive (2000/53 / EC), automakers that do not achieve 85% waste recycling and 95% heat recovery by 2015 plan to impose sanctions on their sales in the European Union. As a result, automobile producers have no choice but to pay more attention to the recovery of their junk cars. As a result, carmakers around the world are paying more attention to the study of waste car recycling. About 150 ~ 200Kg of plastic is used in one car, and most of the plastics applied to cars add 10 ~ 50% of inorganic materials such as talc and glass fiber to base resin (Resin) to secure rigidity. Therefore, even when the used car parts are recycled and applied to new cars, the same amount of minerals as existing new materials are added. At present, the trend of the global automobile market is to reduce the weight of automobiles as a way to improve fuel efficiency. Therefore, reducing the weight of plastic parts recycled plastic parts developed and applied in order to respond to the junk car regulations can create greater high added value.
The difference between new and recycled materials is as follows. New materials are made from raw materials extracted from crude oil, while recycled materials are made from environmentally-recyclable waste components from junk cars. In other words, there is a difference that the raw materials for making the materials are different.
In automobile interior and exterior, a material in which talc is added to polypropylene (PP) is widely used. In the case of polypropylene as the base resin, there are new materials and recycled materials. New materials are made from raw materials extracted from crude oil, while recycled materials are made from environmentally-recyclable waste parts from junk cars. Polypropylene resins used in automobiles generally contain 10 to 40% of minerals to increase rigidity. There are various kinds of inorganic materials such as talc and glass fiber, and in general, talc is most widely used. Talc is a powder of talc. The chemical formula is Mg 3 Si 4 O 10 (OH) 2 and molecular weight is 379. 20 to 30% of talc is added to these polypropylene materials to produce them as automotive materials. Talc has a specific gravity of about 2.8, a particle size of 1 to 30㎛, and an aspect ratio of 3 or more.
Talc has high strength / heat resistance, good workability and low cost. However, as the inorganic content is increased, agglomeration occurs and physical properties are lowered, and since it has a high specific gravity, the weight of the material becomes heavy when talc is added.
Patent Application No. 10-2008-0067655 is a polymer resin comprising a conventional whisker, 35 to 75 parts by weight of a propylene polymer having a melt flow index of 0.5 to 100 g / 10 minutes; Patent application is disclosed for a polyolefin resin composition for automobile interiors comprising talc and whisker as an inorganic filler in a mixed ethylene-α-olefin copolymer in which an ethylene-propylene copolymer rubber and an ethylene-α-olefin copolymer are mixed. 10-2009-0119150 discloses a method for preparing a polypropylene resin composition having high rigidity and low specific gravity by blending glass bubbles with high crystalline polypropylene resin (HIPP). However, both inventions are related to the manufacture of new materials and have no effect on environmental protection. In particular, when polypropylene and glass bubbles are used as fillers, the compatibility between glass bubbles and polypropylene is low, and thus the IZOD impact strength and flexural modulus The mechanical properties of polypropylene compound materials, such as flexural strength, tensile strength, elongation, and heat deflection temperature, are deteriorated, and there is a limit to commercialization of a composite material in which glass bubble is used as a filler.
Conventional techniques for producing composites using recycled polypropylene include 50% by weight recycled polypropylene (10% by weight waste bumper cover and 40% by weight waste battery case), 20-30% by weight new polypropylene and 20 to 20% talc. It is common to mix | blend 30 weight%. However, due to the problem of reinforcing new polypropylene and increasing the weight due to the use of talc, there is a limit that cannot solve both the use of recycled materials and the weight reduction of automobiles.
The present invention provides a polypropylene composite comprising recycled polypropylene and whiskers as acicular crystals.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a polypropylene composite including glass bubbles as recycled polypropylene and a low specific gravity hollow filler.
When adding talc as a conventional technique, 20 to 30% by weight of new polypropylene must be added to the recycled polypropylene in order to achieve the same performance as new materials. However, whiskers can be replaced with recycled polypropylene without reinforcing new materials. It is possible to increase the content of recycled materials and reinforce the minerals with whiskers to reduce the cost, stabilize the quality of the recycled materials and implement a high rigidity low specific gravity polypropylene can supply materials for the production of environmentally friendly and lightweight automobiles. In addition, the glass bubble can be replaced with recycled polypropylene without adding new materials when mixed with talc, thereby increasing the content of recycled materials and reinforcing inorganic materials with glass bubbles and talc to supply materials for the production of ultra-light vehicles.

After crushing the bumper cover, the bumper cover crushed product was immersed in an aqueous solution of methylene chloride (Methylene Chloride) at room temperature for 30 minutes to remove the coating film, and the process of producing the pellet through the extrusion process is shown in the photo.
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in more detail with one embodiment, but the present invention is not limited thereto.
Whiskers mean “cat whiskers”, which are needle crystals that grow in whisker crystals, solutions, melts, vapors, and solids. Currently, it can also be obtained by precipitation in aqueous solution, pyrolysis of compounds, hydrogen reduction, condensation of steam and the like under appropriate conditions. In the present invention, MgSO 4 .5Mg (OH) 2 .3H 2 O from CHEMCO SC CORPORATION, a magnesium whisker, was used.
The whisker has a specific gravity of about 2.3, a particle size of 1 μm or less, and an aspect ratio of 30 or more. Advantages are small particle size, surface smoothness (smoothness) is superior to glass fiber, good recyclability, and excellent resistance to friction improves scratch resistance.
Glass bubbles are hollow spherical low specific gravity hollow fillers that are special heat- and chemical-resistant glass in the form of bubbles. It is prepared by blowing bubbles into the molten glass. The glass bubble is composed of 70 to 80% of SiO 2 , 5 to 15% of CaO, 3 to 8% of Na 2 O, and 2 to 6% of B 2 O 3 . The glass bubble has a specific gravity of 0.125 to 0.60, a particle size of 30 to 80 μm, and an aspect ratio of about 1. Advantageously, it is possible to implement ultra low specific gravity by forming voids, advantageous formability and reduced deformation amount. In the present invention, 3M glass bubble was used.
Embodiments Containing Whiskers
As a preferred embodiment, when mixing 20 to 30% by weight of acicular crystal whisker with 70 to 80% by weight of recycled polypropylene (10% by weight of waste bumper cover and 60 to 70% by weight of waste battery case), the existing talc 20 to 30% It was found to be 5% lighter than the weight percent formulation and to improve the stiffness and scratch resistance of recycled polypropylene. If the whisker content is less than 20% by weight, the needle structure of the whisker may not be sufficiently expressed, and thus the rigidity of the recycled material may be lowered. If the whisker content is more than 30% by weight, the weight reduction effect of the whisker is not achieved. In general, recycled polypropylene has a lower scratch resistance than new polypropylene because the waste bumper cover is used as a raw material. That is, scratch resistance is lowered compared to new materials due to the influence of EPDM rubber contained in the bumper cover 15 to 20% by weight. When talc is added, the content becomes agglomerated as the content increases, and the stiffness and scratch resistance decrease. However, when the content of whisker is added, the needle structure of the whisker is expressed and the rigidity and scratch resistance are improved. Performance equivalent to
In addition, when adding talc, 20 to 30% by weight of new polypropylene must be added to the recycled polypropylene to achieve the same performance as the new material. However, whiskers can be replaced with recycled polypropylene without reinforcing the new material. . Therefore, by replacing talc with whiskers, instead of prescribing new materials for reinforcing the properties of recycled materials, it is possible to achieve cost reduction and stabilize quality of recycled materials by increasing the content of recycled sources and reinforcing the minerals with whiskers.
Embodiments Containing Glass Bubbles
As a preferred embodiment, when mixing 5 to 15% by weight of low-density hollow filler glass bubble in 85 to 95% by weight of recycled polypropylene (10% by weight of waste bumper cover and 75 to 85% by weight of waste battery case), existing talc The weight is reduced by 15% compared with 5 to 15% by weight. When the content of the ultra low specific gravity glass bubble exceeds 15% by weight, it is impossible to add the glass bubble in the side feeder due to the floating phenomenon of the glass bubble. In the case where the inorganic content is to be blended in an amount of more than 15% by weight, it is preferable to apply a mixture of glass bubbles and talc simultaneously. The reason why the minimum content of the glass bubble is 5% by weight is that the minimum lower limit of the inorganic content for application to automobile parts is 5% by weight. In other words, at least 5% by weight of inorganic materials are added to the plastic parts to which inorganic materials are generally applied to automobile parts.

The mixture of Examples 1 to 3 is uniformly mixed and dispersed using a Henschel mixer. The mixed recycled polypropylene and whiskers or glass bubbles are introduced into the first inlet of the twin screw extruder of L / D = 40, Φ = 60 (mm), and the screw rotation speed is 250 to 300 at an extrusion temperature of 180 ° C to 230 ° C. Recycled polypropylene composites are produced by extrusion at rpm. In this case, when the temperature is out of the above-mentioned range, in particular, the melt viscosity of the recycled polypropylene is lower than 180 ° C., so that the decomposition of the resin composition may occur due to the frictional heat generation due to the shear force, and the dispersion of the compatibilizer may not be achieved. If the temperature is exceeded, thermal decomposition of polypropylene may occur, which may adversely affect all physical properties including mechanical properties. After the pelletized recycled polypropylene composite material prepared above was fixed at a cylinder temperature of 190 ° C. to 210 ° C. and a mold temperature of 80 ° C., the specimens were injection molded, and the physical properties of each of the molded specimens were measured by the following method.
ASTM D638 (cross head: 50mm/min)Tensile strength and elongation: ASTM D638 (cross head: 50mm / min)
ASTM D790 (cross head: 50mm/min)Flexural Strength and Elastic Modulus: ASTM D790 (cross head: 50mm / min)
Impact Strength: ASTM D256 [1/8 inch, Notched Izod (room temperature)]
