Description
The present invention relates to an electrolysis cell for electrochemically decomposing an electrolyte. In the case where the electrolyte is XY, X is an alkali metal (hydrogen, sodium, lithium, potassium, etc.) or hydrogen ion, and Y is chloride (fluorine, chlorine, iodine) or chlorine acid, nitrogen ion, or the like. Possible electrolytes in this combination are, for example, water (H 2 O), brine (NaCl), sodium chlorite (NaClO 2), hydrochloric acid (HCl) and the like.
In more detail, the present invention maintains uniform contact pressure between components (eg, membrane-electrode assembly, feeder or current distribution plate, separator, etc.) in an electrolysis cell that electrolyzes an electrolyte that can be expressed as XY. The present invention relates to a pressure mat having battery conductivity and compressibility provided therebetween.
1 is a conceptual diagram of a

In the electrolysis cell in which the brine is supplied to the anode chamber to generate chlorine gas, the following reaction occurs.
For electrolytic cells producing sodium chlorite or brine, a voltage of about 1.48 volts to 5.0 volts is applied at a current density of about 0.01 A / cm 2 to 3 A / cm 2 .
2 is a structural diagram of a general
The
The
The electrolytic area or active area of the electrolysis cell requires at least 0.1 m2, or more from an economic point of view, in order to assemble unit electrolysis cells in order to obtain the desired amount of product. Contact between the components in the active area A of the electrolysis cell is compressed by means of tie rods, filter presses, mechanical jacks or the like in the inactive part B located outside the active area portion of the electrolysis cell.
However, this method has the following drawbacks and limitations in maintaining the planarity and parallelism between the electrolysis cell components in the active area part (A).
First, the lack of uniformity of the contact surface with respect to the active area (A) between the components results in concentration of current at many points where the pressure of the contact surface is large, resulting in polarization, inactivation of the membrane and catalyst electrode, and local breakage of the membrane. It causes a drastic decline in the durability of the electrolysis cell components.
Secondly, providing precise planarity and parallelism to electrolyzer components (e.g. separators) requires precise and costly machining, and as precision increases, manufacturing costs rise rapidly. .

The present invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
(E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, Wilmington, Del.) The
The electrode catalyst layers 320 and 330 of the
In the present invention, the catalysts included in the
Although the thickness of the electrode catalyst layers 320 and 330 and the
In addition, when the thickness of the electrode catalyst layers 310 and 330 is 20 µm or more, the loss of the catalyst due to the excessive use of the catalyst becomes a problem. Since the thickness of the catalyst layer is preferably 1 to 15 µm, most preferably 5 µm.
MEA (membrane electrode assembly,
In the present invention, the
In the present invention, the
The
The material of the
Metal foaming and sputtering, electrolytic or electroless plating, and the like are well known as methods for producing these foams.
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described based on various embodiments of the present invention, but the present invention is not limited or reduced by the following examples.
Hereinafter, a nickel layer coated with a platinum layer was manufactured and its applicability was evaluated.
The surface of the polyurethane foam (10-100ppi) was deposited in a palladium (Pd) plating bath for catalytic treatment, and the graphite powder and 5-10% polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) solution were applied to the polyurethane foam thinly to give conductivity. Nickel is then plated to a thickness of 1-3 micrometers. Nickel plating is preferably about 3 micrometers as a treatment to increase the adhesion of platinum, determine the structure of the foam and ensure durability. Platinum plating is to impart conductivity to the Ni foam prepared above, and electroless plating is performed at a thickness of 0.1 to 2 micrometers. Thereafter, heat treatment is performed for densification and stability of the metal structure of the platinum / nickel foam and removal of the internal polyurethane foam. Heat treatment process is carried out in the heat treatment furnace for 30 minutes to 5 hours within 150 ℃ ~ 300 ℃ to increase the adhesive strength. At this time, some of the polyurethane inside the metal foam is lost, but not completely incinerated. Two-stage heat treatment is a high temperature heat treatment for 20 minutes-5 hours in a non-oxidizing atmosphere in the temperature range of 600 ℃ ~ 950 ℃. If the heat treatment temperature is higher than 950 ° C, the foam shape of the product may change.
After heat treatment, Bafo Pt / Ni foam is cleaned to remove impurities remaining on the surface to obtain the final product. 5 is the final foam obtained in the embodiment of the present invention.
