Abstract
The present invention relates to a method for producing a low fouling hydrophilic water treatment membrane using silver nanoparticles and PEBAX polymer, and to reduce the biofouling, which is the biggest disadvantage of the membrane process, to restore the water permeability by physical washing alone with the inhibitory effect of biofilm formation on the surface of the membrane. In order to develop this highly hydrophilic silver nano composite water treatment membrane, a hydrophilic membrane was prepared by coating PEBAX 1657, a hydrophilic polymer, on the surface of the polysulfone NF support membrane, and polysulfone NF to fundamentally control biofilm formation by biofouling. The silver nanocomposite membrane was prepared by coating with a hydrophilic PEBAX composite membrane in which antimicrobial silver nanoparticles were introduced onto the support membrane surface. As a result of the contact angle measurement, the polysulfone NF membrane was hydrophilized to 19.6 ± 5.4˚ after PEBAX 1657 coating at 45.7 ± 1.4˚, but the PEBAX / Ag coated membrane increased to 30.2 ± 4.6˚ due to the roughness caused by particulate matter. . SEM-EDX results for the detection of silver nanoparticles on the surface showed a small amount of silver nanoparticles on the PEBAX / Ag coated separator. For water permeability experiments inoculated with E. coli, cross-flow cells were made of stainless steel and connected in series, and polysulfone NF separator, PEBAX coated separator, and PEBAX / Ag coated separator were mounted respectively, operating pressure 10kgf / cm2, temperature Permeation experiments were performed at 25 ± 1 degrees. After inoculation with E. coli, the permeability of the polysulfone NF membrane decreased by about 90%, the PEBAX coated membrane decreased by 80%, and the PEBAX / Ag coated membrane decreased by 60%. The rate of permeation degradation was highest in polysulfone NF membrane and the lowest rate of permeation degradation in PEBAX / Ag coated membrane. After flushing with distilled water after reducing the permeability, almost all biofouling of the PEBAX / Ag coated membrane was washed. As a result of permeation recovery using third distilled water, 23% of polysulfone NF membranes, 47% of PEBAX coated membranes, and 91% of PEBAX / Ag coated membranes were recovered. Through this experiment, the effect of reducing the biofouling by the hydrophilization of the membrane surface was observed, and it was confirmed that the effect of reducing the biofouling could be improved by introducing silver nanoparticles having an antimicrobial effect on the membrane surface which promoted the hydrophilization. there was.

The present invention relates to a method for producing a low fouling hydrophilic water treatment membrane using silver nanoparticles and PEBAX polymer which has reduced biofouling, which is the most problem of the water treatment membrane by improving antibacterial activity.
To date, Korea has been striving to protect water resources along with the development of large-scale water resources to meet the demand for water quantity and quality to some extent. However, as industrial development and population increase, the quantity and type of pollutants increase rapidly, and the existing water purification method of coagulation, sedimentation, and filtration gradually exposes its limitations. Therefore, the membrane treatment method has been spotlighted as a technology that is relatively simpler than the existing water treatment method and can stably obtain excellent water quality from various water quality. However, one of the reasons why the introduction of the membrane process has been delayed is membrane fouling.
Membrane contamination that can occur during operation of the membrane system includes crystalline contamination (scaling by inorganic matter, inorganic precipitation due to excess of dissolved product), organic contamination (precipitation of decomposed humic acid, oil, grease, etc.), particulate matter, Colloidal contamination (clay, silt, particulate corrosive, silica precipitation), microbial contamination (biofouling, microbial adhesion and concentration, biofilm formation). In the case of inorganic membrane contamination by crystalline contamination, organic contamination, and colloidal contamination, control of membrane contamination by physical pretreatment such as coagulation precipitation is considered to be easier to control than membrane biofouling phenomenon. Has been. In the case of membrane fouling by microorganisms, it is difficult to control biofouling only by the pretreatment process, which is the most common method of controlling membrane fouling.
Biofouling is one of the biggest problems of membrane water treatment systems. Representative problems of membrane fouling caused by microorganisms include (i) biofilm formation on the membrane surface, resulting in deterioration of membrane performance, and reduction of membrane durability during physicochemical cleaning, and (ii) microbial (bacteria and algae) membrane cleaning. The secondary contamination of water treatment is caused by metabolites (EPS, extracelluar polymeric substances) as well as by itself. (iii) More energy is consumed because higher operating pressure (TMP, Transmembrane pressure) is required to overcome the decrease in permeability due to the biofilm resistance.
As a general method for minimizing the adsorption of contaminants on the membrane surface and increasing the permeability of the membrane, a pretreatment (chlorine treatment, flocculant treatment, heat treatment, activated carbon adsorption, pH adjustment, etc.) device is installed before the membrane device to improve the properties of the influent. The development of process technology related to the operation of minimizing the membrane contamination by the change of the module configuration and the operation method and the periodic physicochemical cleaning (scrubbing, flushing, backwashing, etc.) has been mainly applied.
A typical chemical pretreatment method is to control the biological growth of microorganisms by injecting chlorine into the influent to remove bacteria and reducing the amount of nutrients required for bacteria to grow in water. However, there are additional costs associated with pretreatment and the chlorine used in the disinfection process reacts with aqueous organics to produce carcinogenic halogen by-products such as trihalomethane (THM) and haloacetic acid (HAA). In addition, there is a disadvantage in that an irreversible change of a membrane material in which a membrane selective layer is reduced in membrane durability by chlorine. In order to minimize the effect on membrane durability by cleaning, automation and operation optimization such as pretreatment of water purification process are underway. It is necessary.
Physical scrubbing, flushing, and backwashing methods are important processes to remove contaminants and restore membrane separation properties and permeability. However, removal of biofilms by biofouling is not only difficult, but can also cause physical membrane damage due to washing.
In order to compensate for the above drawbacks, the present invention uses a hydrophilic polymer material and silver nanoparticles having an antimicrobial effect to study the development of a membrane material that is physically and chemically strong and can minimize physical and chemical cleaning. It is to improve the biofouling which is the most problem of the water treatment membrane by improving the.

First, in the present invention, in order to reduce biofouling, which is the biggest disadvantage of the membrane process, and to develop a hydrophilic silver nano-composite water treatment membrane having a high water permeability recovery only by physical washing in addition to the inhibition of biofilm formation on the surface of the membrane, Was performed.
First, the hydrophilic polymer PEBAX is coated on the surface of the polysulfone NF membrane, which is a support membrane, to reduce the biofouling, thereby changing the morphology and water permeability change before and after coating. The membrane fouling phenomenon was confirmed.
Second, in order to fundamentally control the biofilm formation by biofouling, the surface of the polysulfone NF support membrane coated with a hydrophilic PEBAX composite membrane incorporating antimicrobial silver nanoparticles on the water permeability and the surface of the membrane We analyzed the effect of reducing biofouling through the analysis.

1.1. Experimental material
1.1.1 Membrane
The separator used in the present invention used a polysulfone NF flat membrane provided by a domestic company, and was manufactured on a polyester support.
1.1.2 Hydrophilic Polymers
PEBAX는 폴리에테르 블록 아미드라고 불리고, 하드 세그먼트(hard segment)인 폴리아미드(PA. polyamide(e.g. Nylon-6, Nylon-12))와 소프트 세그먼트(soft segment)인 폴리에테르(PE, Polyether(e.g. polyethylene oxide, polytetramethylene oxide))를 나타내고 있다. In the present invention, a polysulfone NF water treatment membrane was used as a support membrane, and the hydrophilic polymer coated on the membrane was a polyether-polyamide block copolymer (hereinafter referred to as PEBAX 1657, Arkema, France). PEBAX is a polyamide-based thermoplastic elastomer that has the durability and flexibility of polyamide to reach the rubber area, and has been widely used in the electric field, automobile field, precision parts, and sporting goods. PEBAX is called polyether block amide, and hard segment polyamide (PA. Polyamide (eg Nylon-6, Nylon-12)) and soft segment polyether (PE, Polyether (eg polyethylene) oxide, polytetramethylene oxide)). Therefore, PEBAX is a thermoplastic elastomers in which the degree of hydrophilicity is changed according to the ratio of PA / PE and the hydrophilicity is increased when the PE composition ratio is increased.
Table 1 below shows the properties of

Artificial wastewater composition is shown in Table 3 below.
During the above experiment, 1 ml of E. coli was inoculated in LB medium and incubated at 37 ° C. for 24 hours, and then 1 ml of LB medium was inoculated to incubate until 10 7 CFU. The cultured E. coli was centrifuged for 30 minutes at 4 ℃, 7000rpm using a centrifuge (model supra 21K, vision science). E. coli was inoculated in the same amount of 30L artificial wastewater and incubated for 6 hours at 37 ℃, was replaced with a stabilized artificial wastewater (reservoir). 2.1.1 접촉각 (contact angle) 측정 2.1.1 Contact angle measurement
As the hydrophilization of the separator surface increased, the contact angle decreased, and a contact angle meter was used to measure the degree of hydrophilization of the membrane surface. The contact angle analysis results of the composite separators manufactured using the contact angle measuring device (Phoenix 450, SIO, Korea) are shown in Table 5 below.
Tertiary distilled water was used for the contact angle measurement. The initial tertiary distilled water flux was highest in the uncoated polysulfone NF membrane, and in the case of
In order to analyze the tendency of water permeability decrease by E. coli , a standard normalized flux is shown in FIG. 11. After the injection of E. coli, the water permeability reduction rate of the
After 3rd distilled water flushing, the
As described above, the present invention is a hydrophilic polymer to develop a hydrophilic silver nano composite water treatment separation membrane with a high water permeability recovery only by physical washing with the effect of inhibiting biofilm formation on the membrane surface in order to reduce the bio fouling which is the biggest disadvantage of the membrane process A hydrophilic membrane was prepared by coating
As a result of the contact angle measurement, the polysulfone NF membrane was hydrophilized to 19.6 ± 5.4˚ after
For water permeability experiments inoculated with E. coli, cross-flow cells were made of stainless steel and connected in series, and polysulfone NF separator, PEBAX coated separator, and PEBAX / Ag coated separator were mounted respectively, operating pressure 10kgf / cm2, temperature Permeation experiments were performed at 25 ± 1 degrees. Through this experiment, the effect of reducing the biofouling by the hydrophilization of the membrane surface was observed, and it was confirmed that the effect of reducing the biofouling could be improved by introducing silver nanoparticles having antimicrobial effect on the membrane surface which promoted the hydrophilization. there was.
In order to reduce biofouling, the
