The present invention relates to a membrane contamination prediction / evaluation method using flow field flow fractionation (FIFFF) technique. Specifically, the present invention provides a system (equipment) for membrane contamination analysis utilizing flow field flow fractionation techniques, including microchannels for flow field flow analysis, ultraviolet detectors, fluorescence detectors, and system control & data collection and processing means. The effective hydraulic size and diffusion coefficient of a particular contaminant (e.g., natural organic matter (NOM), effluent organic matter (EfOM), proteins, polysaccharides, colloid / particle materials, biomaterials including microorganisms, etc.) And a skewness as a membrane fouling index from the effective size distribution of the pollutant.
The technology related to the membrane filtration process is effective for water / sewage treatment and sewage (wastewater) reprocessing in terms of the removal efficiency of pollutants such as organic / inorganic pollutants and organic wastewater (EfOM). Has been recognized as one of them. Nevertheless, membrane fouling by EfOM and the like is a major obstacle in the use of techniques related to membrane filtration processes. Membrane contamination is affected by hydrodynamic elements such as the size of contaminants, electrostatic interactions (repulsion or attraction) or hydrophobic interactions, depending on the nature of the membrane, the chemical properties of the contaminant, and the like. Interactions between contaminants also affect the diffusion coefficient of contaminants from the membrane surface. Thus, membrane fouling has a significant impact on the cost, design and operation of full-scale facilities. To date, studies on membrane fouling phenomena remain in filtration experiments, analysis of membranes with fouling, and membrane fouling evaluation by existing membrane fouling indexes (eg, silt density index). These previous studies require a lot of time to analyze and have limited numerical values for contamination. In particular, membrane contamination assessments based on sludge density indexes were limited to specific membranes and specific contaminants, and had limited application to membranes for water / sewage treatment and sewage (wastewater) reuse.
Coating solution prepared by dissolving 2-5% of a silicone oil or dimethyldichlorosilane solution in ethyl acetate solution was coated on the surface of the water treatment membrane, and the solvent present on the coated membrane surface was removed by drying, and then the residue was washed with water. By washing, a technique for preventing contamination of the surface of the water treatment membrane by adhesion of microorganisms is described in Korean Patent No. 189,769; After forming a polyamide thin film on the porous support, a hydrophilic coating (coating an epoxy compound having two or more epoxy groups on the polyamide composite membrane and then crosslinking the epoxy compound to form a water-insoluble polymer) is performed. Techniques for producing excellent reverse osmosis composite membranes are described in Korean Patent No. 474,169; Nonwoven fabric after adding 0.1 to 50% by weight of titania nanoparticles (diameter: 10 to 50 nm) to a polymer solution selected from the group consisting of polysulfone, polyethersulfone, polyvinylidene fluoride, polyacrylonitrile and polyimide Techniques for applying asymmetric ultrafiltration and microfiltration membranes by application on them are described in Korean Patent No. 536,643; After forming a polyamide thin film on the porous support, a second coating on the polyamide composite membrane (coating a polyamide composite membrane with a compound having at least one functional group capable of reacting with unreacted acyl halide groups in the polyamide composite membrane Covalently bonded to an acyl halide group) to produce a polyamide composite membrane having excellent fouling resistance or separation performance is disclosed in Korean Patent No. 551,574. However, these prior arts relate to the modification of the membrane surface for the reduction of pollution or the manufacture of fouling resistant membranes, and there is a limit to the optimal design of the membrane filtration process by predicting membrane contamination according to the type and characteristics of the membrane and the contaminants.
등의 문헌["Flow-field flow fractionation as an analytical technique to rapidly quantitate membrane fouling," J. Membr. On the other hand, recently, the flow field flow fraction (FIFFF) technique, which is useful for the measurement of molecular weight and particle size distribution, such as chromatography, calculates the area of the separated chromatogram of natural organic material (NOM) according to the characteristics of the membrane. Membrane contamination has been reported by analyzing the degree of adsorption (Hartmann RL et al., "Flow-field flow fractionation as an analytical technique to rapidly quantitate membrane fouling," J. Membr. Sci. 209, 93-106, 2002]. However, there is a limit in accurately predicting / evaluating the contamination of the membrane by analyzing the degree of adsorption according to the characteristics of the membrane, and it is unreasonable to expect a drastic improvement of the membrane filtration process through the selection of the optimal membrane.
The purpose of the present invention is to enable the selection of optimal membranes and the design of optimal membrane systems. It is another object of the present invention to minimize errors in membrane contamination prediction / evaluation.

Signals of contaminants fractionated by size are detected by ultraviolet (UV) detectors and fluorescence detectors, which detect the organic material of hydrophobic or aromatic components fractionated by size at a wavelength of 254 nm, and the fluorescence detector detects excitation at 278 nm. Detects protein-based organic material fractionated by size at wavelength & emission wavelength of 353 nm.
The signal detected by the UV detector and the fluorescence detector is displayed in the form of a chromatogram over time, that is, a retention time distribution, which can be converted into an effective hydraulic size distribution. . Equation (1) based on the Stokes-Einstein equation can be used to calculate the effective hydrodynamic size of the contaminants. Equation (2) is a relational expression capable of converting a retention ratio into a retention parameter. The equation (3) is used to calculate the skewness of the effective size distribution curve and use it as an indicator of membrane fouling. When the skewness is less than -1, the possibility of fouling of the membrane is very low, and the skewness is -1 to If it is 10, there is a possibility of contamination, and if the skewness exceeds 10, it is predicted / evaluated to be serious.
In addition, according to the membrane contamination prediction / evaluation method using the flow field flow fractionation technique according to the present invention, it is possible to compare and evaluate the contamination tendency of two or more different nanofiltration membranes. In particular, it is possible to compare and evaluate the fouling tendency of nanofiltration membranes based on meta-phenylene diamine (MPD) and nanofiltration membranes based on piperazine (piperazine). .

In order to evaluate membrane contamination by specific contaminants according to the characteristics of the membrane, microchannels for flow field flow fractionation (channel thickness: 250 μm, effective fraction area: 56.25
The amount of contaminants injected into the microchannels for the flow field flow fractionation was 50 µl and the time required for the fractionation was about 30 minutes. EfOM consists of 46% hydrophobic and 54% hydrophilic components, and the molecular weight of EfOM was approximately 1,000 daltons. Hydrophobic component by measuring the signal of contaminants fractionated by size in the microchannel for flow field flow fractionation through an ultraviolet detector (ultraviolet absorber) (wavelength: 254 nm) and a fluorescence detector (excitation wavelength: 278 nm, emission wavelength: 353 nm) Alternatively, data on contamination propensity according to aromatic and protein components could be obtained. In order to evaluate the physicochemical interaction between membrane and EfOM according to the ionic strength, 0.05% FL-70 (electric conductivity: 45 μS / cm), 1 mM KCl (electric conductivity: 145 μS / cm) and ultrapure water were used. Used as mobile phase.

(b)(b)
<막의 종류에 따른 소수성 EfOM의 분획 경향>Fractional Trend of Hydrophobic EfOM by Membrane Type
In the reference figure 3, the film of (a) is higher in hydrophobicity and surface roughness (surface roughness) than the film of (b). The high hydrophobic contaminants have a large tailing tail due to hydrophobic bonding with a highly hydrophobic membrane, and particularly, the tailing tail of the separation peak is more severe due to a decrease in charge repulsion as the ionic strength increases. In addition, membranes with high surface roughness were more affected by changes in ionic strength.
The effective size of the contaminant may be defined by converting the result of the reference figure 3 into the size (diameter) and the diffusion coefficient, which are hydraulic characteristics of the target pollutant (see reference figure 4 below). The effective size, depending on the membrane properties and operating conditions, is an indicator of the degree of diffusion of contaminants from the membrane surface.
4][Reference Figure 4]
<오염 물질의 막(membrane)별 물리화학적 특성에 따른 유효 수리학적 크기(effective hydrodynamic size)>Effective hydrodynamic size according to the physicochemical properties of each pollutant membrane
Referring to FIG. 4, the effective size of EfOM varies according to contaminants, membranes, chemical conditions, and the like. In hydrophilic membranes, the contaminants of protein components were large, and in hydrophobic membranes, the contaminants of hydrophobic components were large. Larger sizes result in greater membrane contamination because of less diffusion of contaminants from the protein surface.
또한, 상기 참고도 3으로부터 막 오염도를 산정하기 위한 왜도(skewness)를 계산하게 되는데, 왜도가 증가할수록 막과 오염 물질 사이의 인력에 의한 영향이 증가하여 심각한 막 오염이 일어날 수 있다(하기 참고도 5 참조).In addition, the skewness for calculating the membrane contamination from the reference figure 3 is calculated. As the skewness increases, the influence of the attraction between the membrane and the contaminants increases and serious membrane contamination may occur (see below). See also reference 5).
5][Reference figure 5]
Meanwhile, the skewness index according to the ionic strength of the membrane and the contaminants is illustrated in Table 1 below.
The higher the skewness, the more likely the membrane is to be contaminated. If the skewness exceeds 10, very serious membrane fouling can be caused by the strong attraction between the membrane and the contaminants. Table 1 shows that hydrophobic components cause severe membrane contamination for the contaminants of interest, and protein components cause membrane contamination for hydrophilic membranes. For contaminants that are colloidal or micron-sized particulates, the same experiment can be used to predict the membrane contamination by calculating the skewness index for the size range. Errors were within 5% of the effective size and within 10-15 of the skewness.
Membrane contamination prediction / evaluation method using the flow field flow fractionation technique according to the present invention can improve the membrane filtration process for water / sewage treatment and sewage (wastewater) reuse, and very small amount (10 ~ 100㎛ Pollutants can be used to quickly / easily predict / evaluate membrane fouling propensity and contribute to the design of an optimal membrane system with optimal selection of membranes (especially nanofiltration membranes). In addition, contaminants such as organic matter (EfOM) in effluent for two or more different membranes (especially nanofiltration membranes) associated with membrane properties, including surface charge, roughness, hydrophobicity, etc. It is possible to compare and evaluate the propensity to contaminate. According to the present invention, errors in membrane contamination prediction / assessment can be minimized (within 5% based on effective hydraulic size and within 10-15% based on skewness).
