Technical field to which the invention belongs and the prior art in that field]
The present invention relates to a method for producing expanded graphite using fuming sulfuric acid and sulfuric anhydride.
Graphite is composed of carbon, such as coke and diamond, but has a unique layered crystal structure in which a hexagonal structure composed of carbon atoms is layered. When such graphite is treated with a suitable oxidizing agent, chemical species such as SO 3 2- and NO 3 - are introduced between the graphite layers to form interlayer compounds. Rapid heating of the graphite on which such intercalation compounds are formed gasifies the chemical species bound to the intercalation and expands the graphite hundreds to thousands of times by the pressure. As such, the intercalable chemical species is intercalated between the layered crystal structures of the graphite and then treated with heat treatment or microwaves to expand the graphite. The expanded graphite has a density of 0.003 to 0.02 g / cm 3 . The c-axis of the expanded graphite is extended by 20 to 250 times than the c-axis of ordinary graphite.
A general method for producing expanded graphite is as follows. Natural and pyrolytic graphite is oxidized with a mixture of sulfuric acid and oxidizing agents such as sulfuric acid and nitric acid, sulfuric acid and potassium permanganate, sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide, sulfuric acid and perchloric acid, washed with water, dried and then rapidly heated to expand the graphite to expand the graphite. Manufacture. For example, in the method for producing expanded graphite molded article disclosed in Japanese Patent Laid-Open Publication No. 59-35078, the graphite deposited in a mixed acid of 50% sulfuric acid and 60% perchloric acid in a weight ratio of 100: 5 is subjected to heat treatment at 1000 ° C. Expanded graphite was prepared. In addition, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 61-72609 discloses a method for producing expanded graphite by using sodium and tetrahydrofuran, and in addition, Japanese Patent Laid-Open Nos. 62-170332, 63-139081, 3086538 and 4-21509 contains expanded acid, which can be used as a gasket material, cement and mortar composites, expanded graphite sheet, etc. by using a mixture of sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide, sulfuric acid and nitric acid and boric acid, and concentrated sulfuric acid and concentrated nitric acid as oxidants. Processes for preparing the same are described. In addition, Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open Nos. 7-136501, 8-143856 and U.S. Patent No. 5,149,518 can be used as expanded graphite sheets, oil adsorbents and inorganic fiber composite materials by using sulfuric acid-based mixed acids as oxidants. A method for producing expanded expanded graphite is disclosed. U.S. Patent No. 5,503,717 discloses a process for producing expanded graphite by electrochemically injecting ZnCl 2 into graphite layers and then heat treating them.
As described above, when a mixed acid based on sulfuric acid is used as the oxidizing agent, the consumption of acid is very high because the graphite particles are directly impregnated in a large amount (more than 1.5 times of graphite) in the concentrated mixed acid stock solution for a long time. In addition, since a large amount of waste acid is generated, such a waste acid is not a single acid but a mixed solution composed of various acid mixtures or oxidizing agents, and thus it is difficult to commercialize the expanded graphite production method because waste acid treatment remains difficult. In addition, huge SO 3 and SO 2 gases are generated during the manufacturing process, which causes environmental pollution, and sulfur remaining in the expanded graphite causes corrosion of the metal in contact with the expanded graphite when it is used as a backing or gasket sheet. The production method of expanded graphite using alkali metal and hydrofuran and the production method of electrochemical expanded graphite using ZnCl 2 do not have this problem. However, the current has a high density of alkali metal and a current density of 2000 to 5000 A / m 2 . Since the energy cost required, such as must be used is large, the production cost of the expanded graphite is raised.
Technical problem to be achieved]
Therefore, the present invention minimizes the amount of acid used by dry contacting graphite with SO 3 generated in fuming sulfuric acid or anhydrous sulfuric acid in expanding graphite using a single oxidant such as fuming sulfuric acid or sulfuric anhydride. Reducing continuous production of sulfuric acid, minimizing the amount of waste acid and reducing environmental pollution problems, and greatly reducing the concentration of residual sulfur in expanded graphite, oil adsorbents, gaskets, packing sheets and volatile organic compounds It is an object of the present invention to provide a new method for producing expanded graphite that can be used as an adsorbent (VOCs).
Configuration and Function of Invention]
In order to achieve the above object of the present invention, in the present invention, oxidizing graphite using SO 3 gas generated from fuming sulfuric acid or sulfuric anhydride, irradiating microwave to the oxidized graphite and graphite oxide irradiated with the microwave It provides a method for producing expanded graphite comprising the step of expanding by heat treatment.
Impression graphite particles are contacted with fuming sulfuric acid or anhydrous sulfuric acid vapor or directly impregnated with the solution to introduce SO3 2- into the graphite layer to make an interlayer compound, and the interlayer compound thus prepared is expanded by microwave irradiation and heat treatment.
According to the present invention, expanded graphite is produced by using fuming sulfuric acid or anhydrous sulfuric acid as an oxidizing agent of graphite, and irradiating microwaves to the oxidized graphite to reduce the concentration of sulfur remaining on the surface of the graphite oxide particles, followed by heat treatment. Therefore, by continuously using a small amount of fuming sulfuric acid to minimize the amount of waste acid, and by using a single acid to neutralize the acid waste by the use of a single acid produced by the neutralization reaction at this time (Na 2 SO 3 ) is economical and environmentally friendly to recycle.
That is, the method of the present invention can reduce the generation of waste acid by using a single oxidant such as fuming sulfuric acid or anhydrous sulfuric acid in a small amount of 1/10 to 1/100 compared to the existing technology as well as continuous reuse. It is an economical and environmentally friendly method that has fundamentally solved the problem of treating a large amount of mixed acid, which is the biggest challenge in the prior art, by neutralizing ilsan and making it harmless and recycling the forage produced by the neutralization reaction. It is a method for producing expanded graphite having a density of 0.02 g / cm 3 and having the property of adsorbing 10 to 100 g of oil per 1 g. In the method of the present invention, a reactor containing fuming sulfuric acid or anhydrous sulfuric acid is heated, so that the SO 3 gas generated therein is within 300 parts by weight with respect to 100 parts by weight of sulfuric acid, preferably 100 to 200 parts by weight of the graphite graphite particles for 10 minutes or more. Preferably, the graphite particles are oxidized by contacting for 1 to 5 hours. The oxidized graphite is slightly heated to absorb SO 3 present on the graphite surface by absorbing it again in fuming sulfuric acid, and then the oxidized graphite particles are dispersed in water and treated with microwaves to partially remove SO 3 embedded in the graphite particle surface or layer. The graphite interlayer compound in which SO 3 and H 2 O are embedded in the interlayer crystal structure is prepared by filtering the graphite particles after removing the graphite particles. At this time, the wavelength of the irradiated microwave is preferably about 20 to 100KHz, and the output is preferably 100W to 200W. The graphite intercalation compound thus prepared is expanded graphite by rapidly heating and expanding at a temperature of 600 ° C. or higher, preferably 400-800 ° C. for 3 minutes or longer, preferably 2 to 20 minutes.
The density of expanded graphite by the method of the present invention thus prepared was measured using a peak nom as a density measuring vessel and commercial kerosene. In addition, about 1 g of expanded graphite was weighed at room temperature, impregnated on the surface of kerosene, impregnated, left for 10 minutes, filtered, and weighed to measure the amount of oil adsorption per 1 g of expanded graphite. Table 1 below shows the density of the expanded graphite prepared in Example 1-5 and the oil adsorption amount per 1 g of the expanded graphite.
Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in more detail with reference to Examples, but the present invention is not limited thereto.
1]Example 1
100 g of fuming sulfuric acid or anhydrous sulfuric acid was placed in a reactor, and the SO 3 gas generated by heating was passed through a column containing 100 g of natural graphite for 1 hour to oxidize the interlayer of natural graphite to SO 3 . The oxidized graphite particles were washed with water and filtered, and then heat treated rapidly by microwave irradiation at 600 ° C. for 10 minutes at a wavelength of 47 KHz and an output of 140 W. The density and amount of residual sulfur of the expanded graphite thus prepared were measured, and the kerosene adsorption amount per g of the expanded graphite is shown in Table 1 below.
2]Example 2
100 g of fuming sulfuric acid or anhydrous sulfuric acid was placed in a reactor, and the SO 3 gas generated by heating was passed through a column containing 100 g of natural graphite for 1 hour to oxidize the interlayer of natural graphite to SO 3 . The column containing the oxidized natural graphite was slightly heated to separate SO 3 condensed in excess on the surface of the natural graphite, recovered to the original reactor containing sulfuric acid, and absorbed into sulfuric acid. The oxidized graphite particles were washed with water, filtered, and then dispersed in water. The oxidized graphite particles were irradiated with microwaves for 20 minutes at a wavelength of 47KHz and a power of 140W, and then heat-treated at 600 ° C. The density and amount of residual sulfur of the expanded graphite thus prepared were measured, and the kerosene adsorption amount per g of the expanded graphite is shown in Table 1 below.
2][Comparative Examples 1 and 2]
In order to judge the effect of the present invention as compared to the conventional method, the density of the expanded graphite prepared using the conventional method, the amount of residual sulfur, and the amount of kerosene adsorption per gram of the present invention were used in Examples 1 and 2 of the present invention. It was measured in the same manner as the method and the results are shown in Table 2 below.
As can be seen from the above, the method exemplified in Examples 1 and 2 of the present invention can reduce the amount of acid to 1/10 to 1/100 compared to the existing technology by continuously reusing a single acid rather than mixed acid. In addition, it shows that it is possible to manufacture expanded graphite having properties similar to those of the existing technology while using an environmentally friendly method that can fundamentally solve the emission problem of mixed acid waste, which is the biggest challenge of the existing technology. As a result, the amount of residual sulfur, which is a key problem in the manufacture of the barking sheet, can be greatly reduced. Expanded graphite prepared by the method of Examples 1 and 2 of the present invention has a density of 0.005 to 0.02g / cm 3, the amount of residual sulfur is about 1/5 ~ 1/10 compared to the expanded graphite prepared in the prior art It can be used as an oil adsorbent as it has the property of adsorbing 10 to 100 g of kerosene per 1 g of expanded graphite, and can also be used as an adsorbent for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and raw materials for manufacturing gaskets, packings and cushion sheets. .
Effects of the Invention]
In the method of the present invention, the acid used as the oxidant in the expanded graphite manufacturing process uses a single acid rather than a mixed acid, and the amount of acid can be reduced to 1/10 to 1/100 as compared to the existing method. By using a gas contact method that does not impregnate the residual acid, it is almost pure and can be reused. Therefore, almost no acid waste is emitted and the sulfur content in the expanded graphite can be reduced to 1/5 to 1/10. . These effects will fundamentally solve the problem of waste acid treatment in the existing technology, which will contribute to the vitalization of industrial fields related to the application of expanded graphite such as oil adsorbents, gaskets, packings and sheets.
