Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily produce metal powder adequate as a raw material for powder metallurgy by injecting the molten metal of the same kind as the metal powder layer for cooling formed by centrifugal force on the inside wall of a cylindrical body under highspeed rotation onto said metal powder layer and subjecting the molten metal to rapid cooling and grinding. CONSTITUTION:The powder of metal such as Al sized 1-500mum is charged into the cylindrical body 1 which is rotated at the high speed by the operation of a motor 2, a rack 11 and a pinion 12 and the layer 3 of the Al powder is formed on the inside wall of the cylindrical body 1 by the centrifugal force generated as the cylindrical body 1 rotates. Molten Al 7 in a crucible 5 in an electric furnace 4 is injected to the inside of the cylindrical body 1 from a sliding nozzle 8 toward the Al powder layer 3 in the cylindrical body. The molten Al 7 is rapidly cooled and solidified by the Al powder layer 3 to form the Al powder and accumualtes as the mixture composed of the Al powder for cooling in the bottom 13 of the cylindrical body 1. Since the refrigerant of the metal to be ground and melted is the powder of the same kind of the metal, there is no need for separating the ground metal and the metal of the refrigerant. The metal powder having the excellent characteristics as raw material for powder metallurgy is thus easily produced.
