Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a sharp output image as well as a half-tone image part as to a binary image part by deciding whether an image signal is the half-tone image part or binary image part according to the differential output of an image signal and coding the signal into a binary signal with different threshold values respectively. CONSTITUTION:A 1st comparator 11 discriminates between the half-tone image part and binary image part of the image signal according to the output of a differentiating means 10. Then a dither matrix threshold value for the half- tone image part or a fixed threshold value for the binary image part is set to code the image signal into a binary signal, and then the binary image part is properly recognized as a black or white picture element. Consequently, the image processor is obtained which reproduces even the binary image with sharp recording quality as well as the half-tone image.
