Abstract
PURPOSE:To prepare the title resin which provides a molded product excellent in transparency and heat resistance and suitable for lens, optical disc and optical fiber, by imidating with a prim. amine a copolymer of a monomer such as an alkyl methacrylate, an unsatd. dicarboxylic acid anhydride and a monomer copolymerizable therewith. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer is obtd. by the soln. polymn. of 100pts.wt. monomer mixture consisting of 40-99wt.% alkyl methacrylate monomer (A) of the formula as shown (where R is at least 1C alkyl), 60-1wt.% unsatd. discarboxylic acid anhydride (B) (e.g., maleic anhydride) and 0-50wt.% monomer (C) copolymerizable therewith, e.g., (alpha-methyl)styrene, in presence of 0.01.-2pts.wt. polymn. initiator in 5-400pts.wt. solvent such as cyclohexanone at 50-150 deg.C. The obtd. copolymer is imidated with a prim. amine (D) (e.g., 2,6-dimethylaniline) in an amt. of at least 0.8mol. equivalent at 80-350 deg.C.
