Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve reliability and to realize miniaturization by housing an electronic component and a substrate on which the electronic component is provided in a projecting area from the optical axis direction of a solid-state image pickup chip. CONSTITUTION:A multiple layer substrate 14 on which the electronic component is packaged is provided so as to be housed almost at right angles to the solid- state image pickup chip 12 and within the projecting area of the solid-state image pickup chip 12, and furthermore, a connecting space can be reduced by applying the face bonding of the multiple layer substrate 14 and the solid- state image pickup chip 12. In such a way, it is possible to miniaturize a solid- state image pickup device 1 by realizing stereoscopic packaging with high density, and to make thin and reduce the tip of an insertion part of an endoscope when it is used in the endoscope.
