Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance electrophotographic characteristics of electrophotographic sensitive body by incorporating an azo compound obtained by reacting specified coupler components with a specified diazonium salt simultaneously or successively in a layer formed on a conductive substrate. CONSTITUTION:The layer formed on the conductive substrate contains the azo compound obtained by reacting the coupler component represented by formula I and the other coupler component represented by formula II with the diazonium salt represented by formula III. In these formulae, R<1> is an optionally substituted hydrocarbon ring or the like; Y is a residue condensing with the benzene ring to form an optionally substituted aromatic hydrocarbon ring or the like; R<2> is methyl, ethyl, propyl, or the like; Z is a residue condensing with the benzene ring and forming an optionally substituted aromatic hydrocarbon ring or the like; A is the group the C atoms of which combine with the N atoms of the azo groups and has n valences; n is 2, 3, or 4; and X<-> is Cl<-> or Br<->, thus permitting electrophotographic characteristics to be enhanced.
