Abstract

PURPOSE:To develop a galvanized steel sheet which is formed by a phosphate treatment and vacuum deposition to have excellent corrosion resistance and paintability by changing the orientation and size of Zn crystals and forming steps or grooves between the Zn crystal grains then subjecting the steel sheet to the phosphate treatment at the time of plating Zn by vacuum deposition plating on the surface of the steel sheet. CONSTITUTION:The steel sheet subjected to pretreatments such as degreasing and cleaning is carried into a vacuum deposition plating chamber where the steel sheet is heated to 230-280 deg.C and the vacuum deposition plating layer of Zn is formed on the surface of the steel sheet by the Zn vapor from a Zn hot dipping bath provided below the steel sheet. The plating layer 1 formed on the surface of the steel sheet 4 is constituted of the assemblage of the Zn crystal grains 2 which are hexagonal columnar crystals. The (0001) faces 3 of said crystal grains 2 grow in parallel with the steel sheet 4 and the diameter of the crystal grains 2 is 0.5-20mum; in addition, the steps 5 of at least 0.2-3mum top parts or crystal grain boundary grooves 6 of 0.2-3mum depth are formed between the adjacent crystal grains. A phosphate film 7 is formed to 0.5-5g/m<2> on the surface of such galvanized layer 1 by the phosphate treatment by which the corrosion resistance and coated film adhesiveness of the steel sheet are improved.
