Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the heat resistance and abrasion resistance by arranging a steel plate at least on a bevelled part on the outer peripheral surface of a poppet type valve and forming other parts from a composite strengthened metal and hardening the valve face part of the bevelled part through quenching. CONSTITUTION:In a suction valve 10 consisting of a bevelled part 12 and a shaft part 14 continuous to the bevelled part 12, a steel plate 16 is arranged on the outer peripheral parts of the body parts 12a and 14a of the bevelled part 12 and the shaft part 14. Each body part 12a, 14a is made of the composite strengthened metal which consists of the silicon carbide whiskers as strengthened material and aluminium alloy as matrix metal. The above-described steel plate 16 is prepared from carbon steel pipe, etc., for machine structure, and the valve face part 16a of the steel plate 16 at the bevelled part 12 is applied with hardening by using electronic beams. The surface hardness is about 500Hv in Vickers hardness, and the hardening depth is about 0.5mm.
